My attempt to put the thread back on its track has failed horribly. Well, fortunately you know someone who can just delete the extraneous crap. Let's keep this about Madden, guys, not about personal animosities. EDIT: Although I guess team rivalries are ok. But you know what I meant.

Calvin Johnson with 137 yards and 2 TD catches. Both on play action plays. I love play action passing ... I just always seem to call it against the blitz and get destroyed.

Ok let's just say I did not win that game. Broncos move to dominating 8 - 0 and the Lions fall to 6 - 2.
Good news is up next is 1 - 7 Arizona.

Even though Bulger is having a MISERABLE year statistically, I just wanna make clear a few things...
-I'm winning my games. I'm 7-3 or something like that (even though the 'Hawks are 10-0).
-Stephen Jackson is DOMINATING opponents. The ONLY go-to, guarantee passing plays I have are little dumps to Jackson out of the backfield.
-I know how to read a defense (for the most part). I played football for 7 years growing up and have watched it for as long as I can remember...so lessons on the sport are not really helpful here. Remember, Madden is a video game. A good, but not even great one, at that.
-I'm nasty on defense. Ty Hill and Will Witherspoon are #'s 2-4 respectively for Defensive Player of the Year.
My real problem is the way that a random CPU controlled LB in the game will react with superhuman awareness, hands, and speed to snag a well thrown albeit slightly forced pass over the middle. Short out passes, and even sometimes slants are like 50-50 in getting picked...and most of the time returned for a defensive touchdown. It's annoying, and it's ruining my boys QB rating... that's all.
Thanks to Dragon Breath, Holland, and BDS for the tips.
I'll let you know how it goes.

What Osk said about pics, combined with the fact the running sounds like its still neigh impossible (Swarm mentioned he was HAPPY about 27 carries for 64 yards... which is like 2.3 per carry) is precisely why I don't like Madden.. I haven't bought it in a LONG time ('02 is the one I have), but those are the EXACT issues I had with that version...that and the fact that there were a few offensive plays that would work a good 80-90 % of the time, while the others were pretty much garbage, regardless of what the defense was doing.
Admittedly, I never felt like I had the hang of the passing thing.. and perhaps playing more would have changed my mind (I played about a season and a quarter.. I went 10-6 with the Eagles, and didn't make the playoffs due to some glitch in the tie breaker logic) IIRC, McNabb finished the season in the 40% range for Completions, but with something like 14-15 yards per pass.
I find it hard to believe that 'reading the defense' in a video game is effective, until its to the extent that you know what defense the computer picked by where the guys are, and can call a play that always works against that defense.... I would think that sorta think wouldn't be viable anymore, with so many more options than, say 1997, when you knew how the play was gonna go before the snap.

Not being a huge sports fan, I momentarily forgot that the Cardinals were Arizona's NFL team and thought that Swarm had found a way to have football v. baseball games. >_< Also, thread cleaned up again.

I would pay thousands of dollars to see the Detroit Lions play the St. Louis Cardinals in a football game.

On the plus side, neither feud with Swarm was with Chris. Now that in itself is an accomplishment. Back on subject, this is the first Madden I haven'y bought in probably the entire history of Madden. I was bored by the last version and decided against it this year.

I'll defer reviews on current-gen consoles to the other guys, since I'm on the lowly original Xbox....but not surprisingly, this year's version for that is no better than last year's.

BTW; how are the Bears doing in your season? Not real hot. I think they are 5 - 7. Sexy Rexy went down early (week 2 I think ) and they started out slow. They were tough both times I played them...Benson is having a big year despite their problems at QB
