Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me what's up with the Rush special edition cards? I bought them a little while ago, and I was a bit surprised by them. They don't seem to be quite the same quality as the other stuff sold on the Filsinger Games website. It was only five bucks for the two of them, so I am not really worried about it, but I am curious how something like that came to be sold through the official game store. Is there something I'm missing here?

Rush was created by Neal Nelson, a long time friend of Alex Filsinger.
Neal has always been way into COTG. He used to wear Thunder face paint at GCon and even in his school football games.
It was a personal favor to him from Tom to make Rush an official "alternate universe" character. he's not on any official roster, but Rush is a cool character (I like the 1st one better personally).
Rush is a cool fit in a GWF, GWFZ or any other fed.
Hope this helps.

I may even use him in my USWF (my version of CPC), because I need another Aethran. It was just the artwork that threw me. Someone really should do a good drawing for him. As I said, it was only five bucks so it is no big deal, but it was a bit of a shock because of the artwork. Tom should at least make the card viewable on the website before people buy it, as is true with some other special edition cards.

I don't see any problem with Rush . Infact he even won my GWF Heavyweight belt at one point .

It's just that when you have bought Tom's products before, you tend to expect professional artwork. I'm not trying to insult anyone or to make a big deal of it. I might even have bought the card anyway--at least the second one, for which the artwork is somewhat better. I just think it would be better to let people know they are not getting a normal CotG product.

Neal actually did the artwork for the character himself.
I think the 1st drawing is pretty decent, but the 2nd one looks just like Payback (who can blame him for wanting to draw a character like that? ;D )
Neal's art is better than Gustovich's.

Well, he was like 14 when he drew them. If you can get past Gustovich's stuff, Neal's drawings are like Picasso's. ;D

Yeah, Neal's a good guy. Even though I've never used Rush, I think it was a nice move on Tom's part to do that. I remember being a teenager and making cassettes of my own songs and being thrilled whenever an adult actually bought one! I'm sure it was the same sort of thing here.

Heck, Rush won our Gladiator tournament at the con last year. IT's a really fun card and the artwork for the second is pretty good.

I used him in my New Beginnings fed and he did awesome when i teamed him with Havoc. It allowed me to use Paralyze in a solo feud with Tanck. Now i have Rush going solo for the cruiserweight title. After 10 cards in 2121 he has 5 wins and 2 losses.

Here..i feel terrible because I commissioned the artwork a while back...but Werner did up a pic of Rush for me. I wanted him to be more of a tag specialist in mny fed, so I toned down his stats (I'm in 2119 and he was just too good and too similar to Havoc for my tastes) Anyway...life has been a madhouse and I haven't had much time for GWF lately, but Werner did his usual AMAZING job and everyone deserves to get a look at it:

I am sure you already have, but Neil needs to get his hands on that (along with Tom) as i can definitely see a future for Rush past being a tribute card.
That picture is GREAT!

Rush is great....Use him in your fed, he will surprise you. Actually, I do plan to use him in my USWF (CPC). I am not criticizing the concept or the character. I'll probably use the second card--the artwork on the first is a little tough for me to get past, though I have probably used worse in the past (including some of my own). Yeah, Neal's a good guy. Even though I've never used Rush, I think it was a nice move on Tom's part to do that. I remember being a teenager and making cassettes of my own songs and being thrilled whenever an adult actually bought one! I'm sure it was the same sort of thing here. I also do not debate that Tom did a nice thing, and I in no way meant to criticize Neal. My only point was that Tom is running a business. The whole problem would be solved if the artwork for those cards were to come up when you select the cards in the online store. Then people would see that it is not like the other cards. Or use that drawing that Werner did. That's very cool. That would solve the matter very nicely.

As a consumer I very much like to be able to see a preview of any of the SE cards before i decide to buy. I paid for the commisison, so I don't know if you need my permission or whatever, or you just have to ask Werner, but (if Neal is cool with it) Tom and Co are more than welcome to use that pic for Rush. Best part was that Werner struggled with coming up with a look for the character and then came up with that R face paint idea and it was just genius.
