It is quite clear to me, Mr. Osk, that you have a problem.

Oh...and the ENTIRE Diablo series is better than Oblivion? Cling to the past, much? You call it clinging to the past, I call it having an appreciation for the great games that came before. It's not my fault the best RPG of all time is 10 years old, but time hasn't diminished it at all. The other big problem I have with Oblivion, and I would think that of anyone you could appreciate this, is the lack of development with the main character. Who are you? You're just some guy who happened to be in prison when Captain Picard wandered by. The main character doesn't really have any sort of personality and backstory, he's just this guy you made. Meh. But yeah, not spending hours walking over dangerous terrain is a huge problem for me, too.

My biggest problem with Oblivion was with the way Fast Travel was implemented. You can go straight anywhere to any other landmark you've been to, where travel was a big part of Morrowind. I really dug that - it made the world feel more real. Your biggest problem with the game was the convenient-as-hell-completely-optional form of travel? Oh...gotcha. ;D ~ :-Xsk I LOVE the way you can roam around in Morrowind and Oblivion....but I think what they added to Oblivion is perfect. You still have to make the trek to most locales the first time. And there's nothing stopping you from roaming the countryside anyway.....but after awhile, even with a horse, I don't want to make the big treks from city to city just to finish quests. Were the Stilt Striders and boats that much different in Morrowind?

Were the Stilt Striders and boats that much different in Morrowind? Yes. You had to get to them. That's an enormous difference. In Oblivion, you can travel between Bruma and the Evil Spooky Cave of Darknessness as many times as you want, without facing any peril whatsoever, as long as you find your way to each place once. Meh.

I figure they could've worked more of a 'Fable' type storyline somewhere...you know, something that has to do with the main characters family. My archer/thief was a Khajeet (sp)...would've been cool to have a little NPC Khajeet sister, mom,and dad somewhere. ~ :-Xsk

Meh. As someone who enjoys just heading off in a direction and trying to explore the map on my own, I don't have a problem with this. When you're trying to knock out the particulars of a rumor (collect item from city A, go to city B for reward)....I find the quick-travel thing very handy. I want long treks to be on my terms. As for the bland main character, I agree 100%....both games were very much like that.

Yes, it's nice for meaningless little side quests. But when you can use it to bypass what could have been awesome, tension filled content while escorting someone (people who beat the main quest should know exactly what part I'm talking about), it takes away from the game. Yes, you can just go ahead and do it anyway, but it's not the same. If you're getting hounded the whole length of a cross-country trek and you have to do it to progress, it gives the game a different feel. Even if you choose not to use the safety net, you know it's there. It takes away from the atmosphere. Furthermore ... MAIN QUEST SPOILERS BELOW - Highlight and read at your own perilI also don't like how you can beat pretty much every Oblivion gate as well as the last part of the main quest by just running around the bad guys and healing yourself. Not even sneaking, mind you, just flat out running. Too much of the game is run here, now run here, now fast travel here and run somewhere else. That's just bad game design right there.I can probably just be ignored, though. It's a fantastic game, even with all of it's faults. I just don't think it's the best, and I'm just being contrary for the purpose of ribbing Osk. At least it's not a crappy Nintendo game, Ingersoll!

I tried to get into the Final Fantasy series and decided I don't like any of them. I clearly am not in their targeted audience.
Diablo series was awesome, but I still give the edge to the Baldur's Gate series and Elder Scrolls III and IV.

Sorry, I tried....like the one that got all the rave reviews, with that Cloud guy with the goofy sword.....I tried like heck to enjoy it, but found the story, the characters, etc....kinda dorky.

BDS is to the Other Games board as Payback is to the WWE board.
Val Venis sucks because he isn't tanning enough.
Daggerfall is better than Oblivion.
Wow.

Daggerfall is better than Oblivion. Daggerfall was totally better than Oblivion. The landmass you had to cover was massive, and with randomly generated quests the replayability was infinite. The graphics don't hold up to today's standards, no, but that's not how I choose to judge a game, as most of my list should show you.

Oblivion doesn't have cartoony characters with spikey hair that talk like socially-awkward teenagers....therefore it sucks!

I closed the first Oblivion Gate last night. That was pretty intense. Either I've not mastered combat yet or I'm just weak, but every single battle took a ton out of me....
I was able to beat the gatekeeper guy with the sigil key only because I managed to get him to step off the spiral staircase and fall to his death.....and then, when faced with the spiral staircase up to the place where I needed to close the gate.....I just ran like hell and avoided all 4-5 guys trying to kill me.
Not sure if that's good strategy or the coward's way....but I was successful!
