Holy crap.....what an AWESOME rpg. I realize I'm a little late to the game, having just gotten a 360 and Oblivion being out for awhile now. But I am absolutely hooked on this game.

Yeah, Obilivion rocks my socks. I did eventually get bored with it after I finished a few of the major quest arcs, but it's fantastic all the way through. Good stuff.

It's the best EVER. I pray every day for the next installment. I will someday soon but the expansion pack just so I have some more quests, but also so I can use my new kick a$$ armor. I can't beleive I played 200 hours and still only completed 2 guilds. The other two I barely started. Crap. Now I'm going to fall behind on my feds. I must get the expansion. I must finish every mission. I make myself sick.

I got the Game of the Year edition....a suppose one perk to waiting this long....comes with Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isle.....plus they have a limited time free stronghold to d/l on Xbox Live....and I happened to have kept a disc from a magazine that had two additional free downloads.
I'm probably playing similar to your style, Havoc.....I'm just meandering through, completing side quests.....am in no hurry. I did the same with Morrowind, but Morrowind was big AND unorganized, whereas Oblivion is big and very organized.

I usually use the big manuals and stuff on a fairly easy level so I don't have to use 500 hours of time. Talking about it even this much is making me want to start over completely with a different character and not use the guide. OMG, don't waste another 200+ hours of my life. Oh, it's not a waste, this is the most awesome game ever and I've not played it in 5-6 months.

When all is told, I may wind up agreeing about the best RPG ever statement. Right now, I'd still put Baldur's Gate 2 in that hallowed position.....the Knights of the Old Republic series and Jade Empire up there too (anything from Bioware, really).
But right now, there isn't much negative I could say about Oblivion. It is just plain awesome.

Obvlivion barely eeks out KotoR in my opinion.
Half-Life 2 deserves a mention too.

edit: Now that I think about it, scratch Half-Life 2...it's not really a RPG. But, it is the best FPS ever...single player that is.

Kris, put down the crack pipe. Seriously. I'm worried about you, man. Oblivion is awesome and fantastic and all, but best RPG ever it is not.
It's certainly better than any of that swill that ever came out on a Nintendo system, though.
BDS lies in wait to see if Ingersoll falls for his clever trap ...

Please tell us the metric butt-loads of RPG video games that are better than Oblivion. ~ :-Xsk First off, I didn't say there were metric buttloads that were better, but there are some that are better. Oblivion isn't even the best Elder Scrolls game, that being Morrowind. Now, a not entirely complete list of RPGs better than Oblivion: Fallout Fallout 2 Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy X The Elder Scrolls: Dragonfall The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind Ultima IV Ultima VII And to delve into the MMORPG realm: EverQuest World of Warcraft To delve into the action RPG genre: The entire Diablo series The entire Monster Hunter series And if you want to call certain FPS games RPGs, as well, because of the level of immersion: Half Life Deus Ex And that took me less than sixty seconds. I could have listed more Final Fantasy games, but they were on Nintendo systems and naturally sucked. I wish I could type that in a manner to make it more likely for Ingersoll to see. Anyway, like I said, lay off the crack pipe.

Just curious, BDS -- in what ways did you find Morrowind superior to Oblivion?
Maybe I'm slanted by the simple fact that Morrowind -- for the Xbox -- had no organization of quests and left you with a laundry list of journal notes to remember what the heck you were trying to accomplish....plus NPCs actually give the impression they are normal people in Oblivion.
Everything's just neater in Oblivion. The menus for your character....the way you cast spells (again, this is all Xbox 360-biased).....I've thus far found it better in most ways than Morrowind, which was one of my all-time favorites in its own right.

I know this not the focus of this game but how is the combat?

It's bigger. There's just a whole lot more to do in Morrowind, and there's a much bigger world. The combat system has more options than just "slash." There was more to the crafting of spells and items.
My biggest problem with Oblivion was with the way Fast Travel was implemented. You can go straight anywhere to any other landmark you've been to, where travel was a big part of Morrowind. I really dug that - it made the world feel more real.

First off, I didn't say there were metric buttloads that were better, but there are some that are better. First off, you didn't say metric buttloads OR some, I could only assume by your lightening quick dismissal of my opinion that if was the former. The fact that it took you 60 seconds to answer that doesn't really make it any more valid of a list. And, even after seeing what you've got down (and having played just about half of them), it's still quite clear, to me at least, that Oblivion is the best video game RPG. Oh...and the ENTIRE Diablo series is better than Oblivion? Cling to the past much? ~ :-Xsk
