What's been going on with "Mr. Excitement" Red Bastien? He seems to be in a slump. No one knows for sure what's happened to this former AWA champion. He's not "Mr. Excitement" or "Rapping Red" here, but more in the Red Bastien saga will be revealed in the next 24 hours.....

AWA CARD #25 11/23/2006 AWA Thanksgiving Spectacular - St. Paul Civic Center, St. Paul, MN
1. Bob Orton, Jr. b. Koko Ware ** ½ 2. Jimmy & Johnny Valiant b. Giant Baba & the Destroyer *** ½ 3. FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE MATCH – Ox Baker b. the Sandman ** 4. Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane b. Jim Brunzell & B. Brian Blair DUD 5. Mil Mascaras b. Harley Race *** ¾ 6. AMERICAS CHAMPIONSHIP – Killer Kowalski b. Ted DiBiase to win title. *** 7. HAIR VS. HAIR MATCH – Nick Bockwinkel b. Gorgeous George ** 8. Dick Hutton & Frank A. Gotch b. Animal & Hawk – DQ ** 9. AWA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP – STEEL CAGE MATCH – Johnny & Greg Valentine b. Playboy Buddy Rose & Jimmy Snuka in 2 straight falls. * ½ 10. AWA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP – Iron Sheik b. Bobo Brazil to win title. *** ¾
Summary: Ware got some offense in, but fell victim to Orton’s dangerous finisher. Baba and the Destroyer didn’t display a lot of teamwork, and the Valiants have looked impressive as of late. Jimmy hit a low blow on the Destroyer and followed it with a Super Elbow for the pin. The crazy feud between the Sandman and Baker continued. Baker used a suplex onto a chair to pin the Sandman. The Killer Bees’ debut was a rough one, as the Midnight Express jumped them at the bell and used their Veg-O-Matic to pin Brunzell. Mascaras had a successful AWA singles debut, hitting a flying body press on Harley Race after Race missed his diving head butt.
Killer Kowalski looked very impressive in his title victory over Ted DiBiase. He beat DiBiase all over the ring, and locked his Klaw Hold on the stomach for the victory. Bockwinkel used the figure four leglock to down Gorgeous George. After George’s head was shaved, Buddy Rogers returned and hit the ring with Snuka & Rose. The trio combined to attack both Bockwinkel and George! Later, Rogers said George was a “weak link” and kicked him out of their group. The Road Warriors were DQ’d when Animal power slammed Hutton through the timekeeper’s table.
The semifinal saw the finish to a feud over the tag titles that started back in March. Snuka & Rose may have spent too much time embroiled in Buddy Rogers’ grudges and too little time preparing for the match. The Valentines dominated them during the match, bouncing Rose around the ring with little effort. Johnny dropped his atomic skullcrusher on Rose for the first fall, and Greg catapulted him into the cage to win the second fall. The fans booed the effort (or lack thereof) of Rose & Snuka as they left the ring.
Bobo Brazil and the Iron Sheik battled for the AWA World Heavyweight Championship in match with an extremely controversial ending. Brazil had the Destroyer in his corner, to combat the presence of Nikita Breznikov and Nikolai Volkoff. It was a very evenly fought bout, with both men trading pin attempts. Volkoff distracted the referee as Breznikov tried to get involved. The Destroyer grabbed Breznikov and slugged him, sending him to the ground. Out from the dressing room came Red Bastien, looking much different, with a scraggily beard and unkempt hair. He pulled a heavy chain out of his jacket and blasted the Destroyer. As Brazil leaned over the ropes to check on his friend, Red slugged him with the chain as well. The Sheik locked on the Camel Clutch as referee Gary DeRusha turned his attention back into the ring away from Volkoff. Brazil struggled valiantly, but he could no longer stand the pain and blacked out. DeRusha called for the bell and award the match and the AWA World Championship to the Iron Sheik. Nikita grabbed the mic and declared “Red Bastien is dead, long live Komrade Red!” Red ripped open his jacket to show off a red singlet with the hammer and sickle logo. Fans were stunned by the turn of events; some sat in silence and some littered the ring with debris.

AWA CARD #26 12/4/2006 AWA CARRIBEAN CLASH Card #1 - Roberto Clemente Stadium, San Juan, PR
1. Virgil b. Sabu – DQ DUD 2. Killer Kowalski & Ox Baker b. Ted DiBiase & the Sandman – DQ ** ½ 3. B. Brian Blair b. Stan Lane *** ½ 4. Giant Baba & Mil Mascaras b. Jimmy & Johnny Valiant – COR *** ½ 5. BEST OF 3 SERIES – MATCH ONE – Carlos Colon b. Jack Veneno **** 6. NON-TITLE MATCH – Bob Orton, Jr. & Harley Race b. Johnny & Greg Valentine ** ½
Summary: The international sensation Sabu made his AWA debut against Virgil. Sabu’s wild antics were too much for referee Bob Warren, who disqualified him for putting Virgil through a ringside table. The second match on the card went a little longer, but had a similar result. The Sandman was DQ’d for bringing his cane into the ring and hammering Ox Baker with it. After the match, the Sandman continued the assault on Baker, injuring his neck and shoulder. The Killer Bees were finally able to get one over on Jim Cornette and his Midnight Express. During the match, Lane tossed Blair out of the ring. Jim Brunzell (who escorted his partner to the ring) pushed Blair under the ring and followed him under. When they came back out, they were wearing masks, and the two were identical! One of the Killer Bees got back into the ring and went to work on the surprised Lane. He later tumbled back out of the ring following a racquet shot, and switched with the Bee who was on the floor. The new Bee vaulted over the ropes with a sunset flip on Lane for the victory!
The Valiants were not able to continue their winning streak, as the tough team of Giant Baba & Mil Mascaras handed them a countout loss. Mascaras flew over the ropes with a slingshot plancha on Johnny, which left him stunned on the floor. Two regional legends met for the first time, as Carlos Colon battled Jack Veneno. Colon got the victory with his figure four leglock. The new team of Harley Race & Bob Orton, Jr. looked impressive with a win over the tag team champions. Race survived an early pounding by Johnny to make the big tag to Orton. Orton exchanged moves with Johnny and Greg, and hoisted Greg to the top rope to deliver his crushing superplex and get the pinfall. Local fans were very impressed with this display of strength.

Chad, It looks like December is going to be another great month for your AWA. Will Carlos Colon and Jack Veneno be future additions to LOW Bootlegs? December 2006 WAS a great month for the AWA! Currently, I'm in October 2007 in my fed. I'm hoping to get my results all posted by the end of the year, so I'll be in the same timeframe for posting matches and actually running my league. Right now, it gets a little confusing for me, probably you guys too! Cory's finishing up a couple more wrestlers to add to the sheet with Colon and Veneno. We'll have some new charts to add to LOW Bootlegs by tomorrow morning.
