This one is always fun. Pick five albums since your birth year, that you consider the absolute best. I'll do it in descending order:
1987 is my birth year.
5. Wilco Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
4. The Pixies Doolittle
3. Neutral Milk Hotel In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
2. Sonic Youth Daydream Nation
1. My Bloody Valentine Loveless
(This was off the very top of my head. Wilco's album has a very deep and personal meaning to me (not to mention it's pretty damn brilliant), The Pixies transcended their genre with that very album, NMH brought a completely complex and innovative twist to generally bland college scene, Sonic Youth's brilliance finally produces a masterpiece, and Billy Corgan has been trying to make Loveless for 13 years. Isn't that when Siamese Dream came out?)

Music from my birth year sucked.
Edit: misread the post; thought it said best albums of your birth year. My bad.

I don't think they made albums in 1957... ;D But the big names back then was Elvis, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly...

To me, that is one of the great Rock & Roll albums of all time. Something for the "trendy" listener ( Welcome to the Jungle, Sweet Child of Mine, Paradise City), something for the "hardcore" fan ( Night Train Mr., Brownstone) and not a single bad song on it.... an album you can listen to from start to finish without having to skip a single track.

Eh. The albums very ok for an American pop album, but that's about it. The music isn't all that complex, it sounds like any other glam metal band and the songwriting isn't breaking down any barriers. Sonic Youth's two albums from '87 ( Daydream Nation and Sister) both blow this completely out of the water. I guess it's alright for what it is, but in the overall contextual sense of American music it registers as very ok.

1982 for me, though I'm hard-pressed to think of anything deserving that goes back that far...
Siamese Dream, Smashing Pumpkins - With apologies to the musically talented My Bloody Valentine, I prefer bands that don't think they're too cool to write actual songs with a structure, melody, beginning, and ending. I'm also looking at you, Sonic Youth and early-'00s Radiohead.
OK Computer - That said, Radiohead was on another planet from most other bands for their first 3 albums. I couldn't be too disappointed by Kid A because this is one piece that's hard to top.
Bee Thousand, Guided By Voices - If it hadn't been rushed into production, this could have given them the success they always craved instead of being consigned to cult-following status. "I Am a Scientist" is probably my favorite song of the '90s.
Rain Dogs, Tom Waits - Not that Mr. Waits has ever released a bad album in his life...
New Day Rising, Husker Du - I'm a tremendous admirer of Mr. Mould but it's the Grant Hart songs that elevate this to Husker Du's best.
Nothing from the '00s made the list but if I had to pick one, it'd probably be the White Stripes' Elephant.
