Also, I'm kind of bugged that I knew who Arclight was supposed to be but I didn't know Calisto The Calisto v. Storm fight was something of a bone thrown to old-school X-men fans from around the time when Madeline Pryor (a fake Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix) was introduced. At the time, Calisto -- whose powers in the comics were basically just supreme tactical knowledge, IIRC; her movie powers were borrowed from other comic characters like Caliban (the "mutant radar") -- was leader of an underground group of "ugly" mutants called the Morlocks. Storm fought and beat her to become de facto leader of the group -- shortly before she changed her look to include a mohawk(!).

Yeah, knew that, just never caught it in the movie where Callisto was identified and since she had the borrowed powers, I didn't know who she was supposed to be. Since she did have the history with Storm, the "grudge" that Callisto seemed to have againts Storm in the movie made a lot more sense after I read this thread and found out it was Callisto. She should have had an eyepatch, I might have caught it then. I don't know where I was when they named her, I didn't go for popcorn or the bathroom or anything.

Oh.
Yeah, they never actually named her (or any of Magneto's new mutants that he picked up at that meeting, save Arclight) in the movie. Possibly in an "extra" scene, but not in the final cut..

Were any of Magneto's new mutants based on actual X characters? I haven't kept up with X books so much in the past few years so I don't know alot of the newer mutants. I figured that they would at least base them on comic book characters but maybe they didn't.

I can't say for the quill guy and Callisto was a stretch, but Arclight was one of the Marauders during the "Mutant Massacre" story (Mutant, Morlock.. I think it was Mutant). She was the one with the metallic costume. Then we had Juggs, Madrox, and Pyro. All the others, their cameo's were so short that my mind didn't have much of a chance to register them. I'm sure if they were based on actual characters, they would have been based on Morlocks or Marrow's rebel group (I can't remember the name) or new characters I don't know (I'm not caught up on the books either).

Looks like I'm about five pages late in contributing to this discussion, but I'll try to add some nuggets of info that I haven't seen thus far.
Cyclopes had such a short role in the film because the actor wanted to get his role over with so that he could go off and film his role in Superman Returns. Seems like the dude is forever typecasted into playing the clean-cut, perfect, but ultimately sissy nice guy. (My sisters told me he played this role on Ally McBeal as well).
Nightcrawler was originally scheduled for this movie, and of course he's in the video game. But he was only going to get a bit role, and the actor didn't feel like taking the time and effort to apply his makeup for such a small role.
According to the credits, the two evil Asian mutants were Jubilation Lee (Jubilee) and Kid Omega.
======================
I thought the movie had great effects, great character development on the characters they wanted to focus on, while adding enough secondary characters to give it an "X-Men" feel that the earlier movies sort of lacked. Only problem was that X-Men 3 was NOT how I wanted the story to be told in a movie version of X-Men.
I didn't like how some of the characters died or were rendered "human." But I could care less about Rogue. That actress that played Kitty Pryde was cuter, and did a much better job anyway. Anyone else disappointed that the Pyro-Iceman showdown that they had been building to since the beginning of X-2 was rendered to only be a DragonBallZ-ish battle of the energy rays?

I was a bit disappointed with the X team at the final battle- a few more members would have been better. Overall, I felt the team was weak.
But we did get the Fastball Special- two times.

According to the credits, the two evil Asian mutants were Jubilation Lee (Jubilee) and Kid Omega Pretty sure you're wrong on that one. Jubilee was in the first two movies as a student at Xavier's (and was played by the same girl who had the role in X2, unlike Kitty Pryde), so that's probably where she was in this one as well. The porcupine dude was apparently Kid Omega, though, so that one's right. Not sure who the chameleon-powered one (at the scene where they meet up with Worthington Sr.) was, but that's definitely not Jubilee's power. There's a credit for Psylocke on IMDb... and the purple hair fits the character. Then again, there's an uncredited mention of Omega Red on IMDb as well...

I was a bit disappointed with the X team at the final battle- a few more members would have been better. There's never been more than a half-dozen characters in any climactic grouping throughout the trilogy. The first movie was Storm, Cyke, Jean, and Wolverine (Rogue was in Magneto's possession), and the second was Storm, Nightcrawler, Wolvie, Jean, Magneto, and Mystique at the end (Cyclops was under Stryker's control at the time and Iceman, Rogue, and Pyro were left in the jet). I think that may have been an intentional choice to not confuse the casual audience with too many characters to keep track of.
