AdamSmasher, I really dug the movie, too. So much so, in fact, that I'm waiving the "Wait for the DVD to see it again" rule and going back for a second helping Monday.
Also, keep in mind that Rogue's de-powering, Cyclops' and Jean's death and Xavier's interesting series of events mean nothing. Superheroes die all the time, and the fantasy and suspension of belief allow for their return. I think Sony et al will see the weekend box office returns (and from my position at GameStop, the videogame and related merchandise sales) and realize that X4 has to be done in some capacity.

Yeah, really come on guys! There is no way they will stop now.. This francise is a cash cow. Fine actors like McKellen and Stewart signed up, so they will definately use them ntil they say "No more". So many cool villian that need to come to the screen. They have enough to start a whole new story arc.
I cannot count the number of people who want to see Gambit in a movie, either.
Plus, now they have the Juggernaut and he is unstoppable (b***h!)

Just think though...although Jean and Scott are dead, what major villian, who has yet to make an appearance, is obsessed with the Summers/Grey DNA???
Sinister! I could see him showing up in X4 and doing something with the DNA.

Also, I have to agree with the "No Body, No Death" rule with Scott.
Hell did not Jean obliterate Prof. X and he had a little scene at the end of the credits?

A few tidbits and observations related to the movie and this thread:
*An evil Jean would also lie about killing Scott (and a loving Jean would hide him to protect him from her wrath).
*X3 did $44 million on the first day!!!!!! This shatters Spider Man's first day record, and it sets up the movie to be one of the biggest Memorial Day weekend releases in history (It looks to crush record holder, THE LOST WORLD's $92 million).
*The arrival of Apocolypse means that any exisiting DNA can be replicated AND reconstituted. Put simply, Apocolypse could concievably clone or simply recreate Scott and Jean. While this isn't exactly the case in the comics, his powers could easily be "augmented" for movie purposes to do just that.
*As of today, NONE of the people directly related to the X-Men movies has flatly said this is the last. Only Sony Studios has said it. I think this might've been a safeguard against the possibility that Ratner completely bombed with this installment. Read a few lines up to verify that this clearly is not the case.

Yes, but Xavier's a powerful telepath...Cyclops isn't..=) If anything, there's only a case for Jean surviving the end, not Cyke.
I kept thinking I would have liked the movie a lot better with someone else playing Storm...=P
I could have also handled another 15-20 minutes.
I'm in the camp that if someone hadn't decided, for whatever reason, that Halle Berry needed to be appeased, Cyclops and Xavier wouldn't have been written out so quickly. Ugh.
LOVED Kelsey Grammer as The Beast. Hated no explanation for Nightcrawler (I can't be bothered to buy a $50 video game that's garnered mediocre reviews just to find out what happens between films).
The poor guy playing Colossus had one expression the entire film. The chick playing Kate Pryde was rather cute, though. And older than she looked.
I rather like the boys playing Iceman and Pyro...Pyro, especially. He carried himself with a stronger presence than one would have expected.
I was surprised by the ending, as I figured that - after seeing the scene in one of the TV spots where Wolverine tells Jean "We can make it like it was" - that she was going to hit the reset button at the end and bring all the dead back to life...so Wolverine gutting her was kind of a surprise.
How pie-faced is everyone going to look when Xavier shows up at the mansion and this big tombstone's on the back lawn?
Saw the trailers for Superman Returns and Ghost Rider, and I am cautiously optimistic. I mean, they look good...but then, how many times have trailers been just the good stuff spliced together? Still not crazy about the leads on either film, but open to having my mind changed.

I think Thandie Newton would've made a better Storm, and she would've likely done it were it not for Mission Impossible II (Which also forced Singer to replace Dougray Scott's role as Wolverine with Hugh Jackman). www.diosasdeebano.com/famosas_negras/thandie_newton/thandie_newton.jpgAnyone else see an African goddess in this image? We know the woman can act (check out CRASH for the proof). What's really cool is she has no image hang-ups that would force her to demand bigger roles and more time in a film. Of course, there's always Nona Gay (also from CRASH and THE MATRIX trilogy) extremecatholic.blogspot.com/images/gaye.jpgAnother outstanding and athletic black actress, singer, and dancer who has the acting chops, physical prowess and beauty to play Storm without the headaches of having to appease the ego.

My dream casting would still be Gina Torres, but that's me.
Thank God for MI II...never seen it, but I'll be eternally grateful for it causing the casting of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Honestly, my problems with Halle Berry have zip to do with appearance and everything to do with her utter lack of presence, especially for a character like Storm. "Hot in leather" may work for Catwoman, but some serious force of personality should be exhibited in Storm, IMHO.

OK First of all stop dissing my Halle! She is the one woman my wife has given me permision to...um..."see" if the chance ever came up, so knock it off! Second, and on a comic/movie related note, I just had an idea. In the original Dark Pheonix saga wasn't "Pheonix" just a physical manifestation of Jean's abilitys toped with a powerful cosmic intity while the "real" jean was kept in the bay in Manhatten (Or someplace underwater)? Well, who's to say the "real" Jean isn't in a cucoon at the bottom of that lake still waiting to be found. And the "No Body, No Death" rule is seamingly implied in the film as well. And everyone is right that Charles, for lack of a better term, was in hte clip at the end. So in essence NONE of the major players could really be dead. With the seeming exceptions of Toad and Sabretooth who still have yet to come back from injuries that some normal humans could have survived (OK so maybe a normal human wouldn't have survived a fall off Lady Liberty, but come on, Sabretooth's got a healing factor too, he should have been up and out by the second film). Just yet another fanboy ranting. Big Time

Eh. They REALLY don't want to get into the whole comic version of the Phoenix. That'd KILL the non-fanboy fanbase...which is the difference between MASSIVE SUMMER RELEASE and late Winter releases like Daredevil and Ghost Rider. And the cocoon was Xavier's theory on how Jean survived in the first place.
IMHO, the only reasons they never showed a body with Cyclops is because 1) It would have given it all away, right there and 2) well, given that was saw how she killed people...there wouldn't be a body to show...=P
And with Jean, there was definitely a body...so by THAT rule, she is dead. Of course, Ubertelepath, so she could have body-hopped like Charles.
I'm reasonably sure that Sabretooth was done in by the one injury that his healing factor couldn't handle: Lackluster performance by a bad actor. I wouldn't mess with bringing him back unless and until they do a Wolverine movie, especially if the go gloves off and make it R Rated.
The reality is that any hack (much less a decent writer) can concoct a reason why someone survives, regardless of the death, so if James Marsden wants in come X4, then Jean managed to subvert the Phoenix (subconsciously, as she begged Wolverine to stop her before she killed again, so she clearly believed Scott was dead) long enough to "stash the body". Similarly, if Famke Janssen wants in, then Jean'll rise from the ashes once more (though, I wouldn't be opposed to Cyclops being alive, and Sinister wheeling out Madelyne Pryor, also played by Famke, but I'd stray away from the Goblyn Queen angle so close to the Phoenix bit).
Similarly, if Rebecca Romjin wants in, Mystique's powers will return...just as Magneto's seem to have.
Whew.
Mouthful.

And as 'sYde pointed out earlier, these movies are based on comic book characters, who are notorious for not staying dead.

I just got back from seeing " The Last Stand " and I thought this was better then the first two films in the X-Men series. Famke Janssen rocked in this film, and in the end I really thought the whole cast did a super job. Colossus has always been one of my favorite X-Men and it was great to see him with the Metal Skin, as it was great to see Ice-Man surrounded by ice... great stuff! This is so far the best film in the early Summer Film Run! But Ghost Rider and Superman look awesome too!

while i have never been into the comics, i think the movie franchise has been very good...definitely can see an X4 in a couple of years as X3 laid he foundation for many different paths to be taken...
My 11 year old loved Juggernaught...his "B!t(h" line was the best one liner in the movie...I forgot that it was in there and laughed out load when he said it.
I think both Colossus and Ice-Man still have a ton of potential in any additional X-flicks...

My roommate is an ultra fan-boy and said that he was disappointed because they strayed from the comic so much.
Me? I enjoyed the h*** out of it.
Rings; in response to your response to me...............you are correct. For all Magneeto(sp?) knew; Jean was still dead; so maybe an oversight on their part.
But one thing my uber fan-boy roomie pointed out is that the "cure" was only temporary. Thus the reason Magneeto starts to get his powers back at the end. And the reason that Rogue will probably be back for an X4 because she was never truly "healed".
Heres to hoping that X4 does happen....................with Bryan Singer back under the helm.
