I just got back from a midnight showing and I don't even know what to think. If I look at the movie as the conclusion to a trilogy then it is pretty dang good but if I look at it as a fanboy I am left feeling like there is something missing. The movie was big in that it had a big, BIG story feel. The problem was it was pretty short for that kind of movie. And here is where the spoilers really start.
Professor X, Cyclops, Jean Grey dead. Mystique, Rogue and Magneto (almost) powerless. Beast is an ambassador to the UN.
The X-Men are left with Storm, Wolverine, Iceman, Colossus, and Kitty Pryde and probably Angel. Where does this take us for the future of the series if there even is one? There are pretty strong rumors of a Wolverine one shot and a Magneto one shot prequel so there is at least that. What else? Well they could bring in more mutants though I am unsure of who would be big enough to rejuvinate the team after these losses. Storm would then be the leader. This could lead to an Apocolypse storyline maybe.
The other option is that this entire movie took place in the near future so the next movie could be a potential alternate reality maybe. This could be too far out there for the more realistic feel of this series.
So I am going to assume that this series will have to cast more mutants in order to continue if it continues. It works perfectly well as a stand alone trilogy but as a fanboy I want to see more. So I am going to list my list of potential mutants that could help to remake the X-Men franchise: Gambit, Bishop, Jubilee, Psylocke, and honestly I can't think of any more that would actually help the series much at all. I am sure there are a few but not many that I can think of. I would love to hear what other people think about this movie, what they think about the future of the franchise, who they would want to see in potential future movies etc..
I am also curious as to whether some of the random mutants that were in this movie were supposed to represent any one. There was a guy that had the same powers as Marrow but it was a guy. I guess he was kinda like Spike from the newest X-Men cartoon series. Then there was the guy with the spikes comin' out of everywhere. I know there are people that have followed the X-Men series much closer than I have over the last few years so help me out. Mostly I just want to know what you guys think because I don't know what to think about it.

I just got back as well...but did you stay for the VERYYY ENDING pike?
At the beginning, they have Moria McTaggert on a video screen during one of Prof X's classes. There is a guy on the bed with no consciousness, but is able to move his arms/legs etc.
At the end, after the credits, they show her walking into the room and the guy on the bed says, "Moria". She is in shock and goes, "Charles!!??!?!?"
Also, they did a FANTASTIC job on McKellen and Stewarts makeup in an early scene!! They did look 20 years younger!!
Some huge surprises and yes, the Juggernaut says, "I'm the Juggernaut B***H!"
Loved the Beast in it, esp in the end. Kicking some major A**

I did not stay for the very ending. Dang it. The movie theatre turned the lights up and I walked out as did everyone in there.
Beast was awesome. Juggernaut was awesome. The young makeup was dang good. Angel was cool and was very cool that he was the same guy that played the nerdy pierced up guy from Punisher.
With that ending it leaves the series in an even weirder spot. I still don't know what to think.

ONe thing I didn't see was that Omega Red was supposed to make a cameo, and they have him listed in the movie, but I didn't see him. Did anyone else notice him?

Cyclops is NOT dead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because he is my favorite character, I am invoking the "No Body" rule. In comic books, when a person dies but you do not see the body, you can be sure that the particular character is coming back to life!!!!!!!!!!! But seriously, I enjoyed the movie. It could have been 20 minutes longer because at times it seemed a little rushed. The battle at the end was GREAT!!!!!!!! They did a good job with the "second tier" X-men-Iceman, Kitty Pryde, Colossus. I especially liked the use of Kitty. Her powers always seemed kind of dumb in the comic. But her powers translated really well to the big screen. My only criticism, apart from the horrible misuse of Cyclops and the film being a little rushed, was the casting of Kelsey Grammar as Beast. Only because I watched a lot of Frasier episodes, it was hard to watch Beast and hear Frasier Crane's voice coming out of his mouth. I was expecting him to start diagnosing the X-men's psychological problems .

Just got back from the movie, and I have to say I enjoyed it. I didn't leave the theatre with that awestruck feeling I had after X2, but I thought this was a worthy third in the trilogy.
Omega Red was dubbed the "Omega Mutie" in the credits; he was the guy throwing the spikes at Wolverine in the forest.
I did notice two HUGE mistakes (they were at least big enough for me to find hard to ignore): First, when Callisto tells Magneto about the ultra-powerful mutant, he replies "Where is she?" Callisto never said it was a she, and I can't figure out how Magneto knew the mutant in question was female. In an even bigger mistake, Magneto twists the Golden Gate Bridge onto Ryker's Island IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, but mysteriously, within seconds, IT'S NIGHT TIME (and from everyone's breath, very cold)(??). I know what some are thinking, but the X-Men weren't there yet, so no weather witch and no Iceman to alter things.
Aside from this, X3 was definitely a movie worth seeing, and I think the cast (part of it, anyway) is gearing up for a spin-off series (and I don't mean the much-discussed Wolverine and Magneto movies).

Someone at worked asked me about this also. This may be a stretch, but Phoenix WAS there and could have had the power to turn it dark. That was the best explanation I could come up with.

I told my same thing about the night and day thing. And Magneto said she, thinking it was Jean, but were they talking about Leech??

I really hope you are right. And I was really hoping for the Sentinels (although we did get Joe Cokered teased with them!). I still swear by this, but one of the things they should have ended with in X-Men 2 was that Stryker should have been working on a Sentinel project under the damn which was secret from everyone else. After the dam was collapsed, under the rubble, they should have showed a Sentinel head (preferably Master Mold). As the camera is looking at it, it's eyes just light up. They could have did that like they did at the end of the credits of X-Men 3. Someone pleaseeeeeeee debate me on how this ending wouldn't have been awesome. Why wouldn't Stryker be working on this (although it wasn't him in the comics, but are the movies really based that much on the comic?!?!). It didn't mean they necessarly had to have the Sentinels in X3, but it would have been a big mark out moment and could have tied in to a future movie.

Yeah, I assumed that Magneto automatically knew that it was Jean because he knew she was the only one that powerful.

My guess is that since Jean was the only class 5 mutant; and Callisto specifically said "ultra-powerful mutant"; Even Juggernaut could have figured it was a she Except at this point in the film, Magneto assumes that Jean Grey is still dead. Only the X-Men are aware of her being alive. This is what leads to me thinking this was a screw-up.

I liked it. I don't care what anyone else says. The story seemed solid, the action rocked, The exchange between Juggernaught and Shadowcat was priceless, and even though they called this the end they STILL left it open for yet another sequal! OK sure all the main folks are dead and Rogue is powerless but so what, after the first movie she was an afterthought anyway. I liked this movie, and now must sit back and wait till July for my next big movie experiance. Big Time

Yeah, I assumed that Magneto automatically knew that it was Jean because he knew she was the only one that powerful. Well he did go with Xavier to meet Jean at the begining of the film so I'm sure it can be extrapolated that they talked about her potential. Now the day-to-night bridge thing...can't help there. Big Time
