More matches were announced for New Year's Knockout IV on the December 15 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling! • After some indecisive tag team bouts, the USWA Committee announced that The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy will defend the USWA World Tag Team titles…in a Triangle Match! They will put their gold on the line against both The Road Warriors and the team of "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and Bruiser Brody! The first Triangle Match in the USWA was held early this year for the Texas title, but this will be the first time the match has been held featuring tag teams! The rules are largely the same (see the middle of Page 7 for the explanation). In this situation, tag team partners can't face off against each other (so Bundy couldn't tag out to Hawk if Animal's in). Bobby "The Brain" Heenan has complained the Committee is out to get his men and try and get them to lose their belts, because one team can't beat them. But he said that his men will remain champs and beat two popular teams in one night! • Giant Baba will get another chance at an "old rival"--"The Louisville Slugger" Jim Cornette! This time it will be a two-on-one Handicap Match, as Baba takes on Cornette and Justin Credible. Baba's Japanese representatives asked for this match after Cornette's recent involvement in Baba's matches with Credible. Cornette will surely bust out the spandex bodysuit for this match. Will Baba finally put this "feud" to rest? • "The Birdman" Koko B. Ware will return to action and will be looking for revenge on "Dastardly" Danny Doring, Cousin Luke, and Virgil. Ware will team up with regular partner "Special Delivery" Jones, and the two have enlisted the help of friend Billy Red Lyons. Lyons has had some run-ins with the evil trio in the past and is more than willing to help Koko and S.D. It was in the Mid-South Coliseum in September where Koko had his jaw broken and it will the same building where he returns. Which trio will emerge victorious? • In a special attraction return match, former Southern Heavyweight champion Killer Kowalski does battle with rival Yukon Eric. The Alaskan was very popular in his battle with Kowalski in Louisville, as the 150th card on Thanksgiving night. Will he receive the fans' support in Memphis? Capt. Lou Albano has announced that he will accompany Kowalski for his match again.
It's the last stop before this supercard on December 21! The USWA will return to Jackson, TN for the first time in over two-and-a-half years! This card will come from the Oman Arena! • Before they both challenge for the World Tag Team titles The Road Warriors and "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka and Bruiser Brody will do battle. Snuka and Brody now have two wins over The Legion of Doom. Can they three-peat? • In a special challenge match, Giant Baba will take on one of the members of The Midnight Express. Whether it's "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton or "Loverboy" Dennis Condrey will not be known until match time, as a coin toss will determine Baba's opponent. Jim Cornette and Justin Credible will also be at ringside, so in some ways this is a four-on-one and is "training" for Baba's Handicap Match at New Year's Knockout! Can he overcome the odds? • Ed "Strangler" Lewis will go one-on-one with one-half of the World Tag Team champions and Heenan Family member King Kong Bundy. Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Nick Bockwinkel are hoping that the massive Bundy will soften Lewis up for Bockwinkel prior to NYK. Can he do it or will the "Strangler" take out the big man? • The Killer Bees do battle with the team that put them out of the USWA for a year, as The Dream Team reunites! Capt. Lou Albano decided to have Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake tema up before Beefcake and Buff Bagwell go after them. Valentine is looking for revenge especially on Texas champion B. Brian Blair for his title loss. Which team will reign supreme? • Danny Hodge faces another wild and tough challenge in battling two-time Southern Heavyweight champion The Sheik! Hodge would love to join his Team RPW teammates as the only USWA wrestlers to be able to beat The Sheik. But Abdullah Farouk is focused on his man regain the Southern gold at NYK and is said to have the Sheik more fired up and sadistic than ever! • In a rematch from last month, Mil Mascaras goes one-on-one with Richard Hutton. This match was signed before Hutton was attacked by The Sheik and Sabu. Being the honorable man and tough competitor he is, the Team RPW coach agreed to keep the match. He scored a big win on the luchador last time, but Mascaras is looking forward to the NYK main event and his first title shot and has been on a roll as of late! • The main event will be a big grudge match, as Southern Heavyweight champion Frank Gotch does battle with the homicidal, suicidal, genocidal, death-defying Sabu! This will be a non-title bout, but you can beat Abdullah Farouk wants Sabu to do some damage to Gotch before Sheik challenges for the belt. Are Farouk and his men underestimating Bobo Brazil, with whom Sabu does battle at NYK? Who will win this one? All this plus Billy Red Lyons and S.D. Jones take on "Dastardly" Danny Doring and Cousin Luke, and two more great bouts!

That triangle match at NYK sounds great, I'm hoping Bundy & the Superstar retain, but the odds are against them.
I love the shooters feud against the Sheik & Sabu. Hodge will have his work cut out for him against the Sheik!
Great booking with the Dream Team going against the Killer Bees. You have the old issue with them getting rid of the Bees, plus Blair's current feud against Valentine. It also heats up the Bees vs. the B's!
Strong work little brother!

Thanks, big brother!
I'm kinda hoping that the champs retain as well, although I've gotten into Brody & Snuka more lately with their recent hot streak. Superstar and Bundy have pulled off big wins before and I wouldn't be surprised if they retained here.
I'm surprised how interesting the Team RPW vs. Sheik & Sabu feud has played out. It's kinda odd that RPW are the faces in this feud, but they have the numbers advantage. But I've tried to rotate among the guys to battle Sheik and Sabu, so it doesn't always seem like 4-on-2.
I thought a Bees-Dream Team match would be a good way to focus on that feud, but still hold off on Bees-B's for NYK. I'll be interested to see how long the Bees stay undefeated.

December 21, 2007 Card #153: Oman Arena in Jackson, TN
1) One-half of the World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar got a singles win in the opener, making Virgil submit. Superstar was in control for most of this one. He hit the spinning neckbreaker, then locked on the Cobra Hold (ironically Virgil’s own specialty) and got the submission. ¼*
2) As a prelude to the six-man tag team match at New Year’s Knockout IV, Billy Red Lyons and S.D. Jones defeated Danny Doring and Cousin Luke. Lyons and Jones worked well together. Luke seemed in good spirits after his upset win on “Playboy” Buddy Rose last week. He scored a nearfall on Lyons after the Hillbilly Drop. Midway through the bout, Rose and “Sensational” Sherri Martel came down to ringside. Luke climbed up the buckles, but spotted Sherri and got distracted. Lyons recovered and dropkicked the ropes, crotching Luke on the top. Luke landed face-first, hit the mat, and came up bleeding. Lyons took advantage and locked on the sleeper. Luke wouldn’t give, so Lyons tagged out to “Special Delivery”, who applied a sleeper of his own. Doring jumped in and nailed Jones with a superkick from behind to break up the hold. Lyons tagged back in. Meanwhile, Rose jumped up on the ring apron. While Frank Morrell was trying to get him down, Lyons picked up Luke and hit an atomic drop. Luke was sent towards Morrell and Rose. Rose pushed Morrell out of the way, to avoid a collision, but then decked Luke with a big right hand. Morrell did not see the fist, as he had been pushed aside and momentarily had his back turned. Lyons went for a cover and got the pin. While the fans were happy that Lyons and S.D. won, they did not appreciate Rose’s involvement. ***¼
3) Buff Bagwell avenged The Killer B’s’ recent losses to The Flying Redheads, by scoring a singles win over Red Bastien. Red had the advantage early on, outwrestling Bagwell at every turn. But it took only one mistake for Buff to take over, as Bastien dropped his head for a back body drop, but Bagwell caught him with a spinning neckbreaker. He hit a double arm DDT, then came off the second turnbuckle with his Buff Blockbuster to score the pinfall. Capt. Lou Albano was definitely happy about Buff’s victory. **½
4) The Road Warriors gained some momentum going into the Triangle Tag Team Match at NYK IV, defeating Jimmy Snuka and Bruiser Brody by countout. The Legion of Doom show great strength and fortitude, as both Hawk and Animal kicked out of picture perfect Superfly Leaps. Brody managed to get the big Animal on his shoulders for the Bruiser Backbreaker, but Animal refused to surrender. The advantage went back-and-forth and the crowd was split in which team to support. The ending came abruptly as Animal and Brody collided in mid-ring with big shoulder tackles. Animal went down, but Brody was knocked backwards and out of the ring. He was shaken up and tried to get back in, but rolled in right after the count of 10, giving The Road Warriors a countout win. ***
5) “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton ended up winning the coin toss to be The Midnight Express representative against Giant Baba. The high flyer has defeated Baba in the past in singles, and had many battles in tags in 2005. Eaton looked on his way to another win, as he came off the top rope several times in the opening minutes, once with a knee drop and twice with his Alabama Jam. But Baba came back and hit a piledriver and two of his dreaded neckbreaker drops. After each necbkreaker drop, Jim Cornette provided a distraction to break up the pin. A third neckbreaker would put Eaton down for the count. Baba looked very focused and Cornette, Justin Credible, and “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey all refrained from attacking the giant afterwards, despite the numbers advantage! **¾
6) Ed “Strangler” Lewis scored a very hard-fought victory over the other half of the World Tag Team champions King Kong Bundy. In somewhat of a surprise, Nick Bockwinkel accompanied Bundy and Bobby Heenan to ringside for this bout, then sat at the announcers’ table with Lance Russell and Dave Brown. The big Bundy overpowered Lewis early on and looked on his way to a victory after a big elbow drop. Lewis cmae back and applied the Strangler’s Headlock several times. With the weight difference, he couldn’t throw Bundy, but kept it clamped on to weaken him and also draw blood. He managed to take Bundy down after applying a bear hug, then tripping Bundy’s leg. Bundy came back with a bear hug of his own, that weakened Lewis. Bundy hit the Avalanche and scored the three, but of course had to go for five. At 4¾, “Strangler” got his shoulder up, which rocked the Oman Arena! Bundy dropped another elbow, right across the forehead and Lewis too was soon wearing the “crimson mask”. It was back-and-forth, physical action and the crowd was definitely behind former World champ Lewis. Lewis applied the headlock again and Bundy was dropping to the mat. He fought for the ropes, while Lewis tried to pin his shoulders down, but couldn’t hold. After a minute, Bundy tapped from the pain, giving Lewis a huge victory. Lewis and Bockwinkel had a staredown afterwards, prior to their huge bout at NYK IV. ****½
7) The Killer Bees defeated their old rivals The Dream Team. This was a great tag team bout, with so much at stake and frequent tagging in-and-out. When Greg Valentine and B. Brian Blair were in together, Valentine was hammering away (pun intended) on Blair, for taking “his” Texas title from him. Beefcake came in and applied a sleeper on Blair, but Blair reversed out of it and applied his own version. Beefcake managed to reach the ropes. The Bees hit a double elbow smash on Brutus, but Capt. Lou Albano distracted Kevin Christian. The Dream Team got Blair in the corner and double teamed him, with Valentine using the tag rope to choke Blair, while Beefcake would detain Christian. Beefcake climbed the ropes and came off with a double sledge, but Blair caught him with a dropkick right to the face, which drew blood from Brutus’ nose. “Jumping” Jim came in and the Bees hit a double atomic drop. Brunzell went for a cover, but Valentine broke it up. Blair jumped in and caught “The Hammer” in the sleeper, but the two tumbled to the floor. Brunzell got up and blasted Beefcake with one of his dropkicks, then made the cover for the pin. ***¾
8) Danny Hodge technically got a DQ win over The Sheik, although the match never officially got started. Hodge came to the ring first. Dick Hutton was not with him, as he was preparing for his own match. As Gary Michael Cappetta was making the introductions for Hodge, Sheik charged down to ringside and blindsided Hodge. He pulled out his sharp object and jabbed away at Hodge. Frank Morrell came out to yell at Abdullah Farouk and get his man off. Sheik responded by throwing Morrell into the ringpost. He then continued to jab at Hodge. Hutton and Southern champ Frank Gotch came from the back to chase Sheik off, but the damage had been done. Hodge was left a bloody mess. Morrell recovered and ruled Hodge the winner. Gotch helped Hodge to the back, while Hutton prepared for his match. neg* (NOTE: This was a result from Gary Michael Cappetta's "Attack Before the Match" chart. I've used this many times for Sheik and Sabu, but this was probably the most "noteworthy" incident that's come of it!)
9) Dick Hutton was suffering from a throat injury and certainly had his RPW teammate Danny Hodge on his mind. Mil Mascaras scored a relatively quick win over the RPW coach. The two exchanged some great mat wrestling early on. But “The Man of 1,000 Masks” picked up the pace and came off the top rope several times with a variety of moves. Hutton kicked out from a beautiful flying body press, but Mascaras put him down for the three after a jumping head butt off the top—a move known in Mexico as El Tope de Cristo. Mascaras and Hutton shook hands afterwards. Will Mascaras stick to the aerial attack in challenging for the World Heavyweight championship at NYK IV? *
10) The main event was a non-title match grudge match between Southern Heavyweight champion Frank Gotch and the homicidal, suicidal, genocidal, death-defying Sabu. After the traditional main event introductions, with each man in his respective corner, Sabu charged Gotch and got an early advantage. Gotch fought hard, but Sabu seemed more sadistic and extreme than ever. With Abdullah Farouk distracting Kevin Christian, Sabu brought a steel chair into the ring and hit the Arabian facebuster. Sabu applied the Camel Clutch. After more than a minute of the pain, Gotch reached the ropes. Sabu grabbed the chair again and set up for the triple jump moonsault. Sabu barely hit the move and hurt himself as well. He slowly went for a cover, but as Christian went to count, out of nowhere appeared Sabu’s NYK IV opponent-Bobo Brazil! Brazil pounded on Sabu with big hammer punches, then delivered several Coco Butts. Christian called for the bell and gave Sabu the DQ win. Sabu and Brazil brawled out of the ring and into the crowd. Suddenly The Sheik made another appearance and jumped Gotch. He pulled out the sharp object, but before he could use it, Gotch took him down with a double leg and then threw some stiff punches at his hated enemy! Several USWA referees and officials came down to break up the two feuding pairs. *¼

Merry Christmas, everyone!
Here’s the preview from beginning to end for
Buddy Rose vs. Greg Valentine This match was just added to an already spectacular card. These two rulebreakers are looking for a victory to get in the title picture. “The Hammer” is hoping to get back on track after losing the USWA Texas title, but having had a great win-loss record in ’07. The “Playboy” wants to be taken seriously, despite a shocking loss to Cousin Luke a couple of weeks ago. Who will emerge victorious?
Billy Red Lyons, Koko B. Ware, and S.D. Jones vs. Danny Doring, Cousin Luke, and Virgil Doring and his allies broke both Ware and Jones’s jaws this fall with his Danaconda. Lyons has suffered some embarrassment from this rulebreaking trio as well, losing a match with The Flying Redheads against Doring and Luke, after Virgil hit him with brass knuckles. Can the popular trio gain revenge?
Rick Rude vs. Red Bastien “Ravishing” Rick makes his USWA debut as the newest Heenan Family member. He shouldn’t take Bastien too lightly, as the Flying Redhead has scored big wins in the past and is a former World Tag Team champion and Texas champion. Can Rude gain his first win over a fellow Minnesotan?
The Killer Bees vs. The Killer B’s Capt. Lou Albano brought in Buff Bagwell and Brutus Beefcake, after B. Brian Blair and “Jumping” Jim Brunzell ran The Vachons out of the USWA. To add more fuel to the fire, Blair defeated Albano’s charge, Greg Valentine, for the Texas title. The Bees are still undefeated and hope to continue their streak against these “pretty boys”. Will it be The Bees or The B’s that gain the first win in this feud?
Giant Baba vs. Justin Credible and Jim Cornette (Handicap Match) Baba has had problems with Jim Cornette, dating back to 2005 when he and The Destroyer battled Cornette’s Midnight Express (at that time, “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton and “Sweet” Stan Lane) over the World Tag Team titles. Credible scored a shocking victory, with some help from his manager. Fans love to see “The Louisville Slugger” get slugged, especially when it’s the Japanese giant on the attack. Can Baba beat two men or does Cornette have a plan up his sleeve?
Killer Kowalski vs. Yukon Eric (Special Attraction Return Match) These two big men have battled across the country, in this blood feud. Eric was well-received on Thanksgiving night in the Louisville Gardens, and with Capt. Lou Albano accompanying Kowalski again, the Mid-South Coliseum will probably be behind the Alaskan as well! Can Eric score a win on Kowalski in his old “stomping grounds”?
Bobo Brazil vs. Sabu Although he has been interfering in Sabu’s matches this month, this will be Bobo’s first official match back in the USWA in over a year. The former Southern champ was put out of action with broken ribs when Sabu (with assistance from The Sheik) put Brazil through a table with his triple jump moonsault. Can Bobo gain revenge or will the wild Sabu moonsault him again?
The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy vs. The Road Warriors vs. Jimmy Snuka and Bruiser Brody (USWA World Tag Team championship—Triangle Match) Superstar and Bundy have proven to be the surprise team of the year, with wins over more “established” duos. Since winning the gold, however, they have yet to win a defense by pinfall or submission. Now they have two of their toughest sets of opponents to defend against at once. Can the Heenan Family retain with the odds against them? Will The Legion of Doom become the first three-time tag champs? Or will Snuka and Brody capture their first gold together?
Frank Gotch vs. The Sheik (USWA Southern Heavyweight championship—No-Disqualification Match, No Return Title Shot for the Loser, as long as his opponent holds the belt.) The war between Team RPW against Sheik and Sabu has turned out to be one of the wildest and most surprising feuds of 2007. Gotch and teammates Richard Hutton and Dan Severn are the only USWA wrestlers with pin or submission victories over the Syrian madman. But Sheik has gotten by Gotch in the past with his vile tactics, and with no-disqualifications or countouts, may have the advantage. Who will win this war and emerge the Southern kingpin?
Ed “Strangler” Lewis vs. Nick Bockwinkel This one started at last year’s New Year’s Knockout, with special guest referee Lewis challenging then-World Heavyweight champion Bockwinkel to a title match, and then taking out the Heenan Family (see page 3 of this thread for the details). Bockwinkel lost the title in March to Antonio Inoki, then suffered a concussion. Both Lewis and Bockwinkel had short reigns this year, but have not met in the ring. For many USWA fans this is the most anticipated bout. Bockwinkel is still suffering some injuries from his Alley Fight Match in November, but has pulled off “miracles” in the past. Lewis wants to get back on track and prove his title win was not a fluke. Bockwinkel was asked by Lance Russell on WMC-TV how it felt to not be in the main event for the first time at a New Year’s Knockout. He responded by saying that even though he is not in the final bout, his record at these supercards is flawless, currently at 3-0, and that the “Strangler” has never officially competed at this card. Lewis said that he respects Bockwinkel’s wrestling skills, but is not fond of his attitude and has no respect for Bobby “The Brain” Heenan! He stated that his goal is to outwrestle Bockwinkel and put him down with the Strangler’s Headlock. Who will walk out the victor in this classic wrestling match?
Rikidozan vs. Mil Mascaras (USWA World Heavyweight championship) A very interesting main event to say the least. These two greats of the ring have been allies in the USWA this year, along with Giant Baba and Antonio Inoki. But now they will face each other one-on-one in a highly anticipated match, not just by USWA fans, but the entire wrestling world. Rikidozan is still undefeated, with a singles record of 12-0. While Mil’s record isn’t as strong, he has been on a roll the last month, especially after his Alley Fight win over then-champ Nick Bockwinkel. Most fans anticipate a clean, scientific match, given the two wrestlers’ styles and their respect for one another. But with the World title at stake, will tempers flare? It’s hard hitting vs. high flying, puroresu vs. lucha libre, the undefeated Japanese superstar vs. “The Man of 1,000 Masks”. Who will win this truly World title bout?
That’s New Year’s Knockout IV, coming your way on December 31 from the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis, TN!

Since I did more detail on these results than usual, I decided to post them in three "chunks" for a little easier reading. Enjoy!
December 31, 2007 New Year’s Knockout IV Card #154: Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis
1) In a wild opener, “Playboy” Buddy Rose defeated Greg “The Hammer” Valentine by DQ. Valentine started the match off in control, even applying the figure-four leglock, but Rose made the ropes. Rose took over, after ramming Valentine into the ringpost. He hit two Bombs Aways, but Valentine was able to kick out. Midway through the bout, Cousin Luke made his way to ringside and started “wooing” “Sensational” Sherri Martel. The valet, not surprisingly, was not interested. Valentine and Rose went to the floor again. Frank Morrell was yelling at Sherri and Capt. Lou Albano to stay out of the action. Meanwhile Rose grabbed Luke’s “lucky” horseshoe and clocked Valentine with it, drawing blood. Luke didn’t seem too happy at having his horseshoe stolen. Rose threw Valentine back in the ring and climbed up the ropes, presumably for another Bombs Away. Luke started going wild and ran into the ring. He pulled Rose off the ropes and hit the Hillbilly Drop! Unfortunately this action took place right in front of Morrell who called for the bell and gave the “Playboy” the DQ win. Valentine and Albano naturally weren’t too pleased with the hillbilly’s involvement. “Dastardly” Danny Doring and Virgil ran down to calm down their teammate, who was still seething at Rose for taking the horseshoe! The trio stayed in the ring, for their match, which was up next. ***¼
2) “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware returned from injury and got revenge on Doring, Luke, and Virgil, scoring the pinfall in a six-man tag team match along with S.D. Jones and Billy Red Lyons. The rulebreaking trio seemed thrown off by Luke’s involvement in the opener. “Special Delivery” smacked Virgil with one of his head butts, but Doring and Luke broke up the pin. Ware wailed away on Doring. He dropped Doring with the Ghostbuster to score the win. In a USWA trivia note, Ware and Doring squared off in the opener of last year’s NYK, with Koko also coming out the winner. *¼
3) Bobby Heenan certainly wasn’t hoping for his newest charge’s debut to go this way! Red Bastien scored a countout win over “Ravishing” Rick Rude out of nowhere, in somewhat of a “freak accident”. Rude’s introduction to the USWA was certainly memorable, as he and “The Brain” came to the ring with “The Stripper” as Rude’s entrance theme. He then grabbed the microphone and insulted the fans, calling them, “Fat, out of shape, Memphis pigs!” When the bell rang, Rude started off by posing to the crowd and Bastien. The high flyer would have none of it and worked over Rude right away, nailing his airplane spin into the atomic drop, but Rude managed to kickout. Rude came back and hit his neckbreaker finisher known as the Rude Awakening twice. But each time, Rude in arrogant fashion, pulled Bastien up before the count of three to inflict more punishment. He rammed Bastien into the security railing around the fans, then hit a swinging neckbreaker in the ring for a two-count. Red came up bleeding and looked down and out. Rude ascended the turnbuckles to come off with a dive. A bloody Bastien managed to quickly get to his feet and dropkick Rude while he was standing on the top rope. Rude went flying off the top and crashed into the security railing! He was knocked silly and unable to get back into the ring, giving Bastien the countout victory. The rest of The Heenan Family came down to ringside to check on Rude. Thankfully he suffered no injuries, but he and Heenan certainly suffered a bruised ego! ***½

4) The Killer Bees emerged triumphant over The Killer B’s. “Jumping” Jim Brunzell hit a sunset flip on Buff Bagwell in the opening minute for a very nearfall. The B’s came back and double teamed Texas champion B. Brian Blair in the corner, choking him with the tag rope. Blair tagged out to Brunzell and they hit Brutus Beefcake with the Bee Sting, but only got a two-count. Brunzell hit Beefcake with the dropkick, but before he could make the cover, Capt. Lou Albano got up on the apron. Brunzell went to take a swing at him. Beefcake recovered and charged Brunzell from behind, but “Jumping” Jim saw him coming and ducked. Beefcake stopped short of smashing his own manager, but Brunzell blasted him from behind with another dropkick, which sent Beefcake colliding into Albano after all. Brunzell jumped on the woozy Beefcake to score the pin. **¾
5) Giant Baba won in a Handicap Match over rivals Justin Credible and Jim Cornette. Credible charged Baba right at the bell. He hit a DDT for a nearfall. “The Louisville Slugger” tagged in, not surprisingly, when his partner had gained the advantage. But Baba soon came back. He picked up Cornette for a back suplex, which “injured” Cornette’s neck in 2005. But the manager was able to tag Credible, before getting hit by the move. Credible swarmed in again. He hit a short piledriver on the big man for a two-count. Cornette tagged in and he and Credible double teamed Baba. They put Baba in their corner, where Cornette climbed up and punched away at Baba, trying to get the crowd to count along. But he took too long gloating and Baba recovered, and slammed the manager down with a reverse atomic drop. Baba knocked Justin off the apron with a big boot to ensure no interference from him, then hit Cornette with the neckbreaker drop to get the pinfall. Cornette needed help to the locker room from Credible and The Midnight Express. *½
6) In a special attraction return match, Killer Kowalski scored another win over rival Yukon Eric. The Mid-South Coliseum supported Eric, although Kowalski was in control on this night, as he came off the top rope with a Bombs Away on three occasions, the same move that took off Eric’s ear. Eric got some momentum after a brawl on the floor, but with Capt. Lou Albano distracting Paul Morton, Kowalski grabbed a steel chair and placed Eric’s head in it, putting pressure on Eric’s severed ear. The fans booed Kowalski unmercifully, as Morton missed the illegal action. Kowalski was able to pick up the big Alaskan and spin him around with a giant swing. He covered the weakened Eric and got the pinfall. ¾*
7) Sabu ruined Bobo Brazil’s return to the USWA, scoring a controversial pinfall on the first Southern Heavyweight champion in a wild, bloody brawl. Sabu and Brazil went back-and-forth hitting the Camel Clutch or Coco Butts respectively. Both were busted open by the end, although Brazil lost a lot more blood. Sabu was able to sneak in two Arabian facebusters during the bout. Brazil wouldn’t stay down despite the loss of blood and nailed a big Coco Butt. Abdullah Farouk got up on the apron, but soon went back down, as Brazil blasted him with a Coco Butt! Brazil did something he doesn’t usually do and came off the top rope with a big splash on to Sabu. He went up a second time, presumably for another splash. Before he could, The Sheik ran down to ringside and hot shotted him on the top rope. Jerry Calhoun missed the interference, but saw Sheik on the apron and warned him to get down. Meanwhile a weakened Farouk slid a chair back in the ring and Sabu hit a third Arabian facebuster on Brazil. He went for a cover, and Calhoun turned around to count the pinfall on a bloodied Brazil. ****½

8) The Triangle Match for the USWA World Tag Team titles between champions The Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy and challenging teams The Road Warriors and “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka and Bruiser Brody turned out to be quite memorable! The challengers won the coin toss to start the match and it was Snuka and Hawk starting off. Snuka took a beating early on from both Road Warriors and Superstar. He finally tagged out to Brody who came in and hit the jumping knee drop on Superstar, but the masked man got his foot on the ropes. Animal got tagged in and the two powerhouses clashed. The Legion of Doom hit the Doomsday Device on Brody, who barely kicked out of the move. The big Bundy came in and weakened Hawk with a long bear hug, but Hawk finally broke free. Superstar came in again, but got knocked to the floor by a double clothesline from The Warriors. Hawk came out after Superstar, who was hunched over near the announcers’ table. Hawk went after him, but Superstar had grabbed one of the World Tag Team title belts and smacked Hawk across the head with it. Paul Morton saw the action and immediately disqualified the Heenan Family team, eliminating them from the match. The Mid-South Coliseum popped big time, seeing the champs eliminated first. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan yelled at Morton and then seemed mad at his own man Superstar for the action.
The bout continued with the two popular challenging teams facing off to determine new champs. Brody and Snuka started off hot, but a mistake by the “Superfly” hurt them. Snuka knocked Animal out of the ring with a chop, then went after the powerhouse. He leaped off the apron with a chop, but Animal dodged it and Snuka hit the security railing, busting open his lip. Animal tossed him back, then executed his power slam for a very nearfall. Hawk tagged back in and after a few minutes, hit a nice gut wrench suplex to put Snuka down for the count. The Coliseum was rocking, as The Road Warriors grabbed the belts and celebrated their record third Tag Team title win!
However…it was short lived. Heenan, Superstar, and Bundy came back down to the ringside area, dragging USWA Committee member Jerry Jarrett to the ring with them and holding what appeared to be contract papers. Heenan grabbed the main microphone from Gary Michael Cappetta and announced that The Road Warriors may have won the Triangle Match, but did not win the belts and that Superstar and Bundy were still the champions! Jarrett announced that it was in fact true—that in a Triangle Match, like most championship bouts, the champion(s) must be pinned or submit in order for the title(s) to change hands. So Hawk and Animal did win the match, but not the titles. The Mid-South Coliseum was NOT happy about this and berated the ring with chants, which cannot be written in this report! The battle was over, but not the war as Hawk and Animal knocked the big Bundy out of the ring with a double clothesline, then took out Superstar with a double shoulder tackle. “The Weasel” was left in the ring and got caught in “Precious” Paul Ellering’s full nelson! Hawk and Animal then set him up to deliver the Doomsday Device, but Superstar intervened and dragged his manager back to the locker room. ***
9) The war between Frank Gotch and The Sheik ended for now, as Gotch retained the Southern Heavyweight championship making The Sheik tap out in a No-Disqualification Match. Sheik to little surprise, charged Gotch right at the bell and had the early advantage, using the Camel Clutch often. Gotch actually took over when the action spilled to the floor. He threw Sheik back in and applied the Gotch Toehold for over a minute, but Sheik reached the ropes. Gotch applied the rolling knee bar as well, which is the move with which he won the title, but couldn’t get the submission this time. Sheik was busted open when Gotch got him down on the mat and pounded away at him with punches. The champ caught the challenger in another toehold. Abdullah Farouk got up on the apron and Richard Hutton went after him! Sheik managed to pull out his sharp object and blast Gotch with it, breaking the hold and busting Gotch open. In this match, the object was totally legal. Sheik applied the Clutch, while openly jabbing the champ with the object. Hutton jumped in, but Sheik let go and nailed the “coach” as well with the object. It still allowed Gotch to come back and apply the Gotch Toehold yet again. Sheik fought hard, but ultimately submitted, which rocked the Coliseum! Gotch celebrated with Hutton his victory over the Syrian madman. Farouk was incensed that Sheik is no longer allowed any title shots, while Gotch is champion. Fellow Team RPW teammates Danny Hodge and Dan Severn (still recovering from ribs broken by Sabu) came down to celebrate with Gotch as well. *****
10) In the match a year in the waiting, Ed “Strangler” Lewis scored the pinfall on Nick Bockwinkel. The two former USWA champions traded some great mat wrestling holds early on. Bockwinkel gained controlled and executed by a piledriver and went for the figure-four leglock. But “Strangler” had the move scouted and kicked Bock off. Lewis came back and hit three Strangler’s Headlocks, throwing Bockwinkel down to the mat each time. On the third time, Bockwinkel’s head hit the mat hard and Lewis was able to pin his shoulders to the mat after about nine minutes of action, shorter than what some fans expected. Bockwinkel was slow in getting to his feet. It was determined that he had suffered another concussion and will be out of action for the first few months of 2008. It looks like New Year’s Knockout wasn’t the best night for The Heenan Family! **½
11) The main event was for the USWA World Heavyweight championship, as the undefeated Rikidozan made his first defense of the title against his ally “The Man of 1,000 Masks” Mil Mascaras. Ed “Strangler” Lewis came down to ringside before the match, recovered from his previous match after the intermission. During the traditional main event introductions with each man in a respective corner, the Mid-South Coliseum threw streamers in the ring, as is done before many Japanese main events. The ringside area was filled with photographers from several publications around the world. Bill Apter was there naturally for the USWA’s publications, as well as representatives from Weekly Gong in Japan and Box y Lucha in Mexico.
The bout started off with some great chain wrestling and the crowd was very appreciative of it. Once the action picked up Rikidozan was the first to hit a finisher—his hiplock, but only got a two count. After that the luchador took advantage hitting two beautiful flying body presses and a crossbody attack, but couldn’t keep the champ down. The two wrestlers knocked heads after one of the body presses and the champ was busted open. Mascaras hung up Rikidozan in a bow and arrow, but the champ wouldn’t surrender. The champ hit another hiplock out of nowhere and got a nearfall. He took a page out of Mascaras’ book and came off the top rope with a flying body press, but Mascaras rolled through into a pinning combination and a very nearfall. Mascaras went for a dive into the corner, but Rikidozan ducked and Mascaras hit his head on the buckle. He rolled out of the ring and was almost counted out, but rolled back in. Rikidozan locked on the Boston Crab and it looked like Mascaras would give, but he just made the ropes. Rikidozan hit another hiplock, then followed with his thunderous chops. He struck Mascaras right on the head with one, which drew some blood from his mask. With both men going back-and-forth, the crowd was split in whom to favor. The champ hit yet another hiplock out of nowhere and scored the pinfall in an awesome main event. The two grapplers shook hands afterward in a great show of respect and sportsmanship. “Strangler” Lewis entered the ring and shook hands with both as well. Rikidozan celebrated, holding the belt high, as he remains undefeated going into 2008! ****¼

Great card Cory! I knew Bundy & Superstar would find a sneaky way to keep the titles! Looks like Strangler might be the #1 contender to Rikidozan, that should be a great match. I'm glad Frank A. Gotch triumped over the Sheik, makes for a Happy New Year in Humboldt, IA.

Great stuff Cory! Rikidozan is undefeated in my fed as well, going 8-0 since his debut a few months ago. Glad to see it too, he deserves it!

Thanks to Chad and Stu for the comments! I knew Bundy & Superstar would find a sneaky way to keep the titles! It's funny, cause with their title defenses all ending in DQ's and countouts, I thought it would be interesting, if they got DQ'd in this kind of a match, especially in the first fall. And sure enough, it happened! Looks like Strangler might be the #1 contender to Rikidozan, that should be a great match. Wait and see in the next update.

Cory,
I am visiting up in Seattle and I finally got caught up with your fed.
New Years Knockout IV was a great PPV. Good to see Billy Red Lyons, Koko B. Ware, and S.D. Jones get their revenge against Danny Doring, Cosuin Luke, and Virgil. With their victory over The Killer B's, the Killer Bees continue to be unstoppable in your fed. I wish they would do better for me in my fed. The Road Warriors definitely now deserve a one on one title match against King Kong Bundy and the Masked Superstar.
Awesome job!

With their victory over The Killer B's, the Killer Bees continue to be unstoppable in your fed. I wish they would do better for me in my fed. Their first time in the USWA, The Bees were a real disappointment. I was hoping they'd do better this second time around, but didn't think they'd do this well. I'm eager to see where they go in '08. The Road Warriors definitely now deserve a one on one title match against King Kong Bundy and the Masked Superstar. Stay tuned for further developments!

New Years Knockout always delivers. I was happy to see the Strangler get the win over Bock. I knew that Heenan would pull out the DQ clause as soon as Superstar got himself DQed. Looking forward to Roadies vs. The Heenan Family.

The January 6 edition of USWA Championship Wrestling gave some of the aftermath of New Year’s Knockout IV and a preview of things to come in the USWA in 2008.
• Some USWA wrestlers have decided to move on to other places. Bruiser Bordy has decided to wrestle in New Japan Pro Wrestling and go after some new competition. His tag team partner “Superfly” Jimmy Snuka will stay in the USWA. Reportedly he will be focusing on singles action and striving toward a singles championship shot. Another wrestler to leave is Virgil. Virgil has been with the USWA since its inception in 2004. The former bodyguard wants to focus on his in-ring career in other territories for the time being. The usually quiet Virgil reportedly is tired of the “odd couple” of Danny Doring and Cousin Luke. Another bodyguard will also be leaving, as former Texas champion Justin Credible has parted on good terms with Jim Cornette. “The Louisville Slugger” said that Credible plans to join WCCW and hopes for some more success in the Lone Star State. No word at press time if Cornette and his mama will be searching for another bodyguard. Perhaps the biggest name is “The Man of 1,000 Masks” Mil Mascaras. After losing to Rikidozan in the NYK IV main event, Mascaras has decided to wrestle around the world, traveling to several different territories and taking on all comers. His interpreter thanked the USWA fans for their support and said that Mascaras will hopefully return to the USWA in the future. • After two “special attraction” bouts, Killer Kowalski and Yukon Eric have decided to continue their battle in the USWA! Both wrestlers will be competing in the territory in ’08. To little surprise, Capt. Lou Albano has signed Kowalski once again to his stable. • Bill Apter interviewed The Heenan Family. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan was holding a briefcase in his hand. He stated that Nick Bockwinkel will be out of action indefinitely. The manager said that because of what Ed “Strangler” Lewis did to Bockwinkel, he is offering $25,000 to any USWA wrestler than can injure the “Strangler”! Apter asked if Rick Rude, The Masked Superstar, or King Kong Bundy would go for this bounty. Each man responded that they will attempt to gain revenge for their fallen teammate and get a bonus from “The Brain”. • Speaking of Superstar and Bundy, as a result of the controversial ending to the Triangle Match, The Road Warriors will receive another shot at the USWA World Tag Team titles. However, the match will not take place until February 15 in Nashville, as The Legion of Doom and “Precious” Paul Ellering had already signed to travel to the Land of the Rising Sun and compete in All Japan Pro Wrestling in January. However, the Heenan Family duo will make a defense on January 18 in Evansville against the undefeated Killer Bees. The two teams met on November 9 in Lexington, when Bundy and Superstar got a countout victory. Will The Bees win their first USWA Tag Team championship? • Another upcoming title defense will be in Tupelo, MS on January 25, as Frank Gotch will put the Southern Heavyweight title on the line against Sabu. Now that The Sheik is unable to challenge for the championship while Gotch holds it, Abdullah Farouk is hoping his other charge can put down long-time rival Gotch.
After a memorable New Year’s Knockout, the USWA isn’t slowing things down. A huge card at the Civic Coliseum in Knoxville will kick off 2008 on January 11! • A big rematch will take place, as “Playboy” Buddy Rose looks for revenge on Cousin Luke. Luke has been infatuated with “Sensational” Sherri Martel. But can he stay focused and gain another big win on the “Playboy”? • In a rematch from New Year’s Knockout IV, The Killer Bees will do battle with The Killer B’s. Capt. Lou’s team has struggled so far. Will 2008 be better for them? Can The Bees remain unbeaten, especially before their World Tag Team title match? • Two old rivals will do battle as Giant Baba will go head-to-head with one-half of the USWA World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar. Superstar injured Baba’s neck twice in ’07. Baba is gunning for another title shot in the new year and hopes to get a win over the Superstar en route to it. • In a huge tag team bout, former World Tag Team champions Bobo Brazil and Red Bastien reunite to do battle with The Sheik and Sabu! These teams had some wild bouts in 2006, prior to Brazil’s suffering broken ribs. What will happen in this one? • The main event will be a huge bout, as Rikidozan puts the World Heavyweight title on the line against Ed “Strangler” Lewis. Both men are coming off huge wins at NYK IV. This should be a great scientific wrestling bout. But will Bobby Heenan’s bounty on Lewis be a temptation to Rikidozan? Plus The Midnight Express take on the Team RPW duo of Dick Hutton and Danny Hodge, “Ravishing” Rick Rude, and Yukon Eric in action!

January 11, 2008 Card #155: Civic Coliseum in Knoxville
1) “Ravishing” Rick Rude was victorious in the opener over S.D. Jones. Bobby Heenan’s newest charge looked more impressive than he did in his debut at New Year’s Knockout. He still showed his arrogance, as he hit “Special Delivery” with the Rude Awakening, but then pulled him up before the three-count, to deliver a second Rude Awakening and score the pin. ¼*
2) Newcomer Yukon Eric scored a submission victory over “Dastardly” Danny Doring. The Alaskan was well-received by the Knoxville fans. He dominated Doring, bouncing often the ropes and smashing Doring with shoulder tackles. Eric got the win with his Kodiak Krunch, an over-the-shoulder backbreaker. DUD
3) Eric’s rival Killer Kowalski scored a submission win as well over “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware. Kowalski focused his attack on Ware’s stomach, attempting the stomach claw on several occasions. Ware had his home state behind him and gained some nearfalls on the big man. He even attempted to lift up Kowalski for the Ghostbuster, but couldn’t get him up. Kowalski rolled out of the ring, where Koko followed him, but got rammed into the ringpost. Kowalski continued to attack the stomach and applied another stomach claw to force a submission on Ware. Capt. Lou Albano was happy to see Kowalski gain a win in his “official” return to the USWA. ***¼
4) The Midnight Express scored a “sneaky” countout win over the Team RPW duo of Richard Hutton and Danny Hodge. For teaming together for the first time in the USWA, especially against former World Tag Team champions, Hodge and Hutton did very well. The two Oklahomans focused their attack on “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey and even busted him open, when the executed a double team atomic drop on him. The move sent Condrey into the turnbuckle, causing him to hit his head and get lacerated. “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton tagged in and worked on Hutton. The Midnights hit the Midnight Massacre on the RPW “coach”, but only got a two-count. Condrey hit two face-first leg sweeps, but still couldn’t put Hutton down. After the Double Goozle, Hutton was also bleeding from Eaton’s clothesline. Hutton rolled Eaton into a small package out of nowhere, but it was close to The Midnights’ corner and Condrey booted Hutton to break up the pin attempt. Hodge finally got the tag in and locked Condrey in a sleeper, using his great grip strength to weaken “Loverboy” Dennis. Eaton broke up the attempt. Hutton came back in and locked on his abdominal stretch. Eaton attempted to intervene again, but Frank Morrell cut him off. Unfortunately, this allowed Jim Cornette to sneak in and smack Hutton with his tennis racket. Hutton let go, but was able to recover and went after Cornette on the outside. Hodge joined him and the two punched away at “The Louisville Slugger”, much to the crowd’s delight! Unfortunately Morrell put the ten-count on Hutton for being outside the ring and he was counted out, giving The Midnights a very close victory! ****
5) Jimmy Snuka got a big singles win over former Texas champ Greg Valentine. The “Superfly” looked impressive here, unleashing an onslaught on “The Hammer”. Valentine had a lot of offense as well, but couldn’t keep Snuka down for many pinfalls. Midway through the match, Snuka hit a nice power slam on Valentine and immediately went for a cover, but Capt. Lou Albano distracted newest USWA referee Paul Neighbors. Snuka hit a flying head butt a few moments later, which busted Valentine open. Snuka went for another cover, but Albano again got up on the apron. Snuka had enough and chased Albano off the apron. The distraction allowed Valentine to momentarily regain control, but Snuka soon came back and hit a Superfly Leap to score the pinfall. ***¼
6) “Playboy” Buddy Rose gained a measure of revenge for his upset loss in December by pinning Cousin Luke. It looked like lightning would strike twice for Luke, as he took control early and hit three Hillbilly Drops on Rose. But one “flirtatious” glance to “Sensational” Sherri Martel by Luke, allowed Rose to take over. The former two-time World champ was outwrestling Luke, but decided to humiliate him. While Sherri distracted Frank Morrell, Rose grabbed Luke’s own “lucky” horseshoe and clocked him over the head with it, knocking him out with it. Rose then came off the top with a Bombs Away for good measure and scored the easy pinfall. If that wasn’t enough, Rose put the horseshoe around his neck and left the ring with it! Danny Doring was reportedly still recovering from his loss to Yukon Eric and thus didn’t help Luke. *¼
7) The Killer B’s rebounded from their loss at New Year’s Knockout IV to give The Killer Bees their first pinfall loss since returning to the USWA. It looked like B. Brian Blair and “Jumping” Jim Brunzell would get a quick win, as they kept Brutus Beefcake in the ring for a good portion of the match. Brutus took over after ramming Brunzell into the ringpost on the floor. Buff Bagwell tagged in and hit two crossbody blocks for nearfalls. The B’s hit a double body slam on Brunzell but Blair broke up the pinfall. Blair tagged in, but The B’s managed to maintain control. After Bagwell gave Blair a slam on the floor, Beefcake hit his flying knee smash in the ring and covered the Texas champion to score the pinfall. Capt. Lou was definitely ecstatic that his men got the win and ended The Bees’ winning streak. ***
8) One-half of the World Tag Team champions The Masked Superstar scored a countout win over old rival Giant Baba. Despite focusing on tag competition in recent months, the Superstar still looked strong against Baba, although he did whatever it took to get the win done. He attacked Baba on the floor several times, utilizing a steel chair to Baba’s previously injured neck, while Bobby Heenan distracted Jerry Calhoun. He applied the Cobra Hold, the spinning neckbreaker, and even picked up Baba for a body slam, but couldn’t keep him down. After one Cobra, Baba ran Superstar head-first into the buckle to break the hold, but the giant also crashed into the middle buckle and was cut. Baba started making a comeback with chops and looked fired up. But Superstar regained control again and took to the bout to the arena floor again. He executed the spinning neckbreaker on the floor again, which is what he did to Baba in March ’07 in Cookeville, TN and put the big man out of action for three months. Superstar crawled back into the ring and watched as Calhoun counted Baba out of the ring. Perhaps The Heenan Family was sending a message to Ed “Strangler” Lewis, about the bounty they have placed on him. World Heavyweight champion Rikidozan came down to check on Baba, along with several USWA officials. Baba suffered no major injury and was able to walk back to the dressing room, with assistance from Rikidozan and the officials. ***½ 9) The Sheik and Sabu made a bloody mess out of former World Tag Team champions Red Bastien and Bobo Brazil. Sheik’s sharp object came into play a lot in this match, as he carved up Bastien early. Sheik even threw a fireball at Red at one point, then tagged into his nephew who brought in a chair and executed a perfect triple jump moonsault. Sabu went for a cover, but Bobo jumped in to break up the count, angered by the fact that Frank Morrell missed the actions that Sheik, Sabu, and Abdullah Farouk were pulling off. After almost seven minutes of action, Bastien finally made the tag to Bobo. Bobo nailed Sabu with two big Coco Butts, but couldn’t get the pin. Sabu took over and hit two Arabian facebusters, while Farouk again provided the distraction. Brazil came up bleeding like his partner. Sheik tagged in and the Knoxville crowd let out a big cheer—not that Sheik was in, but that Sheik and Bobo were in against each other. Bobo hit a big Coco Butt, but Sheik kicked out after two. Sheik’s object came into play again. He applied the Camel Clutch and jabbed Brazil with the object, again hiding it from Morrell. Brazil had no choice but to submit to the hold. The fans were not happy about what they had seen, as they pelted Sheik, Sabu, and Farouk with garbage while they made their way back to the locker room! ***¼
10) From a wild brawl to a great scientific wrestling match in the main event, the undefeated Rikidozan put the USWA World Heavyweight title on the line against former champ Ed “Strangler” Lewis. The two showcased some great mat wrestling early on. “Strangler” attempted the headlock early on, but the champ had the move scouted and blocked it before Lewis could even fully apply it. Rikidozan hit some of his famous chops to Lewis’ chest, but couldn’t put the challenger down for the three-count. Lewis attempted to gain a submission with a double wristlock, but Rikidozan managed to get his foot in the ropes, breaking the hold. Lewis successfully applied the headlock several times, even busting the champion open. Rikidozan fought for three minutes, before finally being pinned to the mat, ending his winning streak and crowning Lewis the champion for the second time! The Knoxville crowd erupted in cheers, having seen history made. As Lewis was given the belt by Jerry Calhoun, out of nowhere The Heenan Family came down to ringside, to try and ambush Lewis and collect on the bounty. “Ravishing” Rick Rude came off the top rope with a double sledge from behind, knocking the new champion down. World Tag Team champs Masked Superstar and King Kong Bundy jumped in the ring and held Lewis down, while Rude prepared to come off the top rope again. Before he could, Rikidozan recovered and chopped Rude, which caused Rude to get crotched on the top turnbuckle! Superstar and Bundy wisely bailed out, under orders from Bobby Heenan. His face covered in blood, Rikidozan offered his hand to Lewis. “Strangler” accepted and the two grapplers shook hands. Rikidozan raised the new champ’s arm in a great show of respect, as the crowd applauded! ****

Thanks, Kevin! I was slightly surprised that Strangler won, but I think it'll work out. It was kinda sad to see such a long winning streak come to an end. I'm hoping Rikidozan can still stay dominant.
I'm hoping to have the next update posted late tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned, fans!
