Man, Pellegrino could have won that. Damn! Yeah, up until the fight started and Joe Daddy whupped his a$$ for 15 minutes. Up until that point, yeah, he could've won. Pellegrino took the first round IMO. He just looked like he gave up at the end... very frustrating. So howd you guys do? I won two, lost two... but my losses were big :/

Won three lost one. Only put a fiver on Hardonk to beat Frank Mir so it's no real loss, especially when my $75 on Couture went like a charm.

Great show last night. Cote came through for me with the upset...but the rest of Team Paint Dry fell apart. Alberto Crane put on a clinic in transitional control and methodically working for submissions...yet the announcers completely no sold it. I realize that Goldberg and Rogan are given 'talking points' at the production meeting and 'Hype Huerta' was probably stressed as a priority...but give some credit to the other fighter when it's due. I first noticed huge blood stains across the mat during this fight...it came from the earlier Guida/Aurelio and Heath/Babalu fights...both bloodbaths. GSP completely outclassed Koscheck...taking the four time All American down at will, controlling position on the ground and dominating the stand up. A tough loss for Kos who put forth zero effective offense. Maybe the sports psychologist thing will work for GSP as it did for Tom Brady. Another 'career moment' for Hall of Famer Randy Couture. Perfect game plan executed to perfection. Tough break for Gonzaga with the nose break...props for gutting it out. No doubt he'll be back. If Crocop wins in the UK we'll probably get to see the 'dream match' for the belt after all. I'll put Aurelio/Guida up for everyone later. Marcus Aurelio vs. Clay Guida opens the show. Aurelio came out wearing some sort of a spiked mask.
Guida's cornerman started pounding on his chest outside the ring like it was Crusher & Bruiser. Guida got a huge reaction considering ther are maybe 4,500 in the building this early in the show.
Guida thinks he's a kickboxer, apparently leery of going to the ground. Guida wasting energy throwing haymakers that aren't coming close. Guida just swinging wildly. Crowd was behind Guida. Mostly Aurelio avoiding Guida's punches. Auelio connecting with jabs. Guida caught him with a few in the corner but Aurelio back with a jab. Aurelio peppering his face. Guida decked him with a punch. When they went to the ground, Guida wanted no part of it. Aurelio connecting with straight jobs to the nose. Aurelio is teh better fighter, but Guida had the knockdown an was the aggressor. Hard round to call, maybe Guida.
Guida got a takedown, but got right back up not wanting to stay on the ground. Good low kick by Guida. Guida swinging and missing haymakers still. Aurelio tried a takedown, Guida blocked and landed on top, but Aurelio caught hijm in gurard. Aurelio neer threatened from the bottom and Guida landed some stuff. Guida broke free with punches from the top. Once again, Aurelio came of as more skilled, but I've got Guida 20-18. BJJ people will hate that second round scoring but Aurelio never threatened from the bottom.
Loud Guida chant. Fight isn't close to what people hoped for from these two. Guida tried a takedown and Aurelio sprawled. The whole fight he's wanting him down and now he avoidedd it. Aurelio treid a high kick. Aurelio more skilled but Guida's offensive output continues stronger. Guida blocked a takedown and hit a knee. Three close rounds. Guida bleeding from the nose the entire fight. People gave both a big hand. I've got it 30-27 for Guida. The kind of fight that some people will be vehement negatively about the decision no matter what it is.
Scores were 30-27, 28-29 and 30-27, for Guida via split decision. Joe Rogan questioned how anyone could have given it to Aurelio.
UFC web site has it 72% for Couture, but the gambling money here last night was strongly for Gonzaga, even though he was the favorite.
Ryan Jensen vs. Thales Leitis is next.
A lot better stand-up here. Jensen tried a guillotine, but Leitis escaped. Trading. Jensen buckled Leitis' knees with a punch but Leites then took him down. Got his back. Jensen threw an elbow block. Leitis tried a takedown but Jensen landed on top. Leitis tired an armbar but Jensen threw punches to get out . Leitis going for an armbar, got it and it's over. Really fun fight.
Frank Mir vs. Antoni Hardonk is next up.
The place is already 80% full, so this is an early arriving crowd for Las Vegas. Mir better get this to the ground or it's a short night for him. He got a big reaction.
Mir took him right down. Now Hardonk better get up or he's in a lot of trouble. Hardonk was working for a submision, got himself in a bad position and Mir threw some elbows. Mir got a nasty Kimura and tapped Hardonk.
Renato Sobral vs. David Heath is up next. Josh Barnett is in Sobral's corner.
Sobral took him right down. Sobral doing some ground and pound, working the body. Heath is active from the bottom. Sobal trying a can opener but getting nowhere. Hard elbows from the top. Heath got up. Sobral tried a takedown but this time Heath landed on top. Heath not doing aywhere near the damage from the top. Sobral was beating him up from the bottom as well. Heath landed a good elbow late but easily Sobral's round.
Sobral cracked him with a hard left, bloodying Heath's nose. He took him down and landed punch after punch to his face. Heath is coveried in blood. Twice it was close to a stoppage but Heath showed signs of life. Sobral continuinjg to punch him. Blood all over the mat. More hard shots. Sobral with a guillotine turned into a choke for the tap. Sobral held on way longer than he should have and Heath is twitching. Fans saw that and they were furious at him. Sobral said Heath called him a nasty word so he held on long even though he knew he tapped. Barnett loved the heat and told Sobral to throw his cap to the crowd. Of course the the fan threw it back. The people booed Sobral like crazy. We needed Roberto Rangel as referee to reverse the decision due to excessive rudeness.
I expect they'll be showing an Ultimate Fighter preview tape on the PPV. It's a tremendous preview clip with walls, doors and furniture in the house all being defaced.
Kendall Grove vs. Patrick Cote opens the PPV show.
There are Canadian flags all over the crowd. No Hawaiian flags. Grove came out with a Hannibal Lechter mask. Lots of fans for both, obviously more for Grove.
Loud chants for Cote, followed by boos. Cote bulled him into the fence. Herb Dean broke them up. Nobody got any kind of advantage. Grove with a punch and high kick followed by a body kick. Cote blocked a takedown. Grove blocked a takedown. Cote decked him and punching him on the ground. Cote got his back and going for a choke. Grove escaped. Cote pounded him and ref Herb Dean had to stop it.
They just showed Kobe Bryant on the screen. He got almost as much heat as Sobral.
Joe Stevenson vs. Kurt Pellegrino is up next.
Pellegrino came out to "Another One Bites the Dust" and was lip synching the words as he came out.
Pellegrino went for a takedown and Stevenson put on his TM guillotine. Pellegrino got out. Sevenson reversed him on hte ground. Stevenson with the move of the night with a German suplex and back to the guillotine. Pellegrio out again. Mostly Pellegrino on top for last the last few minutes, but not doing much. Pellegrino may have taken the round in the final seconds, but very close to even. If you're into German suplexes, Stevenson by a hair, if not, Pellegrino by a hair.
Round two all standing. Sevenson got a takedown, hit an elbow from to top. Thinking leglock but punching. Stevenson got his back. Punching. Pellegrino reversed him on the ground. Pellegrino got the best punch of the rounhd in. Pellegrino came on late but Stevenson's round. I've got it 19-19, but both rounds are close.
Pellegrino with a strong takedown. Nothing happened from there so a standup was called. Stegenson tried a takedown and this time Pellegrino got the guillotine. Stevenson escaped and throwing elbows until he was tied up. Sevenson with more punches from the side. Stevenson hurting him with punches. Hard knees by Stevenson. Another takedown by Stevenson and more pounding. Pellegrino reversed on the ground. but Stevenson escaped and more punching. Pellegrino reversed at the bell, tried an ankle lock. Third round was great. I've got Stevenson 29-28. 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 were the scores for Stevenson. Judo Gene LeBell was one of the judges.
Roger Huerta vs. Alberto Crane is up next.
Huerta got his back and tried to spin into an armbar. Crane escaped and got Huerta's back. Herta escaped and punching form the top. Crane tried a pin into an armbar. Good technical groundwork. Crane working for a choke. Herta reversed and threw some punches. Good punch to the jaw and a second one were the best blows of the round. Crane tried a guillotine. Huerta escaped. Crane has a nasty mouse under the left eye. Huerta's round winning in the last minute.
Huerta got a takedown and scored with punches. Huerta put him down with a body kick. More ground and pound by Huerta. Crane thinking armbar. Huerta scored with a lot of puhnches on the ground during the round. He let Crane up. Huerta dominated the round and should be up 20-18.
Crane got Huerta 's back and Huerta was punching backwards and doing elbow blocks and winning while the guy had his back. Then got got on top and kept pounding. Finally Steve Mazazagatti had to stop it.
Interesting trivia note. Judo Gene gave Crane the first two rounds. Other judges gave both rounds to Huerta.
They have withheld $25,000 of Sobral's purse because of his excessive rudeness (ie not breaking the choke) for the finish. They'd have for sure reversed the decision if this was governed by the Distrito Federal Box y Lucha commission.
Josh Koscheck vs. Georges St. Pierre is up now.
St. Pierre looked possessed coming to the ring.
Koscheck was booed a lot. I've heard more boos but not lately. GSP's reaction was deafaning. My ears genuinely are ringing like after a 1984 show in Dallas, Texas.
Super loud GSP chants. Josh throwing crfazy punches and missing. St. Pierre took the man down. Psychological advantage Canada. Incredible heat live. Working the body with punches. GSP scored with a few punhches from the top. More punching from the top by GSP. Koscheck to his feet. Hard takedown by Koscheck. He needs to damage here to win the round. He's not damaging. GSP's round. Not a great round but awesome crowd heat.
St., Pierre got a takedown. Worked for a straight armblock and then a Kimura. Koscheck escaped. Koscheck tried to esape but no luck this time. GSP working for the Kimura again. GSP pounding the body. Crowd going ballistic with a huge standing ovation. Incredible reactions for what really hasn't been much of a fight. St. Pierre has to be up 20-18 so Koshceck needs to do something right at the start of the round.
Thrid round staned-ujp. Koshcekcd throwign big blows but missing most of them. St. Pierre scoring with leg kicks. Koschekc went for a takedown and St. Pierre ended up on top. He's throwing elbows, punches. Body and head shots. This St. Pierre would destroy just about anyone at his weight. More punches to the body and head connecting. Incredible readction at the end of the round. GSP 30-27.
30-27, 29-28, 29-28 were the scores. I don't know how Koscheck won a round. GSP beat Koscheck by outwrestling him. That's what was so impressive about the win.
St. Pierre asked Dana White to put on a show in Montreal The place went crazy. I guess that tells you a ton of peole here came from Canada. St. Pierre came across here on his promo as something really special.
It's down to 61% pro-Couture as they go into the ring.
Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga for the heavyweight title is next.
Place went nuts for Couture even though they were spent from the last match.
Couture lit him up, took him down, got his back. Place goihng hnuts for Couture. Hard punch by Couture. Trading. Couture gettng the better. Couture is having trouble taking Gonzaga down, though. High slam by Couture. Gonzaga coming back. Gonzaga back with punches in Couture's strong spot. Gonzaga bleeding from the nose. Gonzaga blocked a throw. Hard elbow by Couture and shoulder strike. We'll find out how much heart Gonzaga has here. Another hard elbow by Couture. And another. Everyone in the place is standing and it'a really a slow fight. Gonzaga back with punches and had a guilotine at the end of the round. Place going bonkers at the end. Couture's round.
Couture bulled him against the fence. Gonzaga connnecting with several punches. A war of punches and Couture got the better of it. Stopped it because of blood for a moment. Couture has his back standing. Couture with lots of hard punches really hurt Gonzaga. Overland left. Elbow. More punches. Randy is lighting Gonzaga up. This is the best Couture has ever looked. He's hammering him with punches and a knee. Totally controlling the fight from the clinch. Gonzaga is tiring. Match slowed at the end of the round. It's a Greco-Roman match. This place is going nuts again. 20-18 Couture.
Gonzaga connected with two hard kicks to the body. Couture did a bodylock and takedown. He's beating on Gonzaga. It's about to be stopped. It's over. He did it again.

Well I just dropped all my money on Jeff Monson - who seems as sure a thing as possible - against Rizzo to get most of my money back for the next UFC... hopefully Monson wins and I won't have to reload! Congrats to Jamie OD and Havoc... I'll be back!

BTW - Had I conseved my money and not bet on the Main Events I would have bet $150 on Aurelio. If I had the know-how I'd probably bet 200 online on him but that is a habit I want to steer clear of. Good thing you didn't! Here's the fight: Clay Guida vs Marcus Aurelio tinyurl.com/3bxcj9 LWPD (I'll put up the controversial Sobral/Heath fight tomorrow)

I see that stats are now up. Props to Jaime on a gutsy Couture pick. Also a tip of the cap to Mike M...the silent killer. HOFClemons had log in problems but his bets are good and will be carried over once we resolve those issues and move him into the league. Who is DarkOne?
There's a lot of activity coming up....three UFC Events (and two other shows) over the next thirty days. Remember if you're holding out for prelims they are usually posted only a few days prior. You can use the Odds Checker to gage what the other major books are doing (and get a feel for the full slate before they are released by the system).

Courtesy of MMA Weekly "LAS VEGAS - Keith Kizer, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, said he was going to hold half of Renato "Babalu" Sobral's $50,000 purse pending a review of his actions during his UFC 74 win Saturday over David Heath at Mandalay Bay.
After winning by second-round submission, Sobral refused to let go of a choke, even when referee Steve Mazzagatti tried to pry his arms off Heath's throat. Sobral was slated to earn $25,000 plus a $25,000 win bonus. Kizer said he was withholding payment and would likely require Sobral to come before the commission to explain himself."David Heath vs Renato Babalu Sobraltinyurl.com/35jhnj LWPD (this one looks ugly at the end when seen in slow motion...a beautiful Gator Roll into an Anaconda Choke...held just past the point of tapping...puts a bloody Heath to sleep)

I wouldn't completely count Rizzo out. He always has a punchers chance...and Monson's stand up is pretty weak. I went all in on another fight on that card. I felt it was the safest bet and would give me more room to work with going forward. Take a guess which one.

I only put $20 on it but our payout would probably be similar.
