No it wasn't a shameful end.. and I kinda liked the fact that Randy turned defeat into something respectful and uplifting.. (well okay I wasn't uplifted...but I was touched by the farwell) I know the discussion doesn't belong here.. but hay.. how often does a mma legend really retire?
Nice find habbalah. That was quite a performance by 'Babalu'. If you put it in context Sobral was coming into that match having already gone through a full 3 round/15 minute fight earlier. To have enough in the tank to submit someone on the level of Rua is extremely impressive. He went on to win the rest of the tournament that night and hasn't been beaten in almost 3 years. I have never seen a Randleman fight I did not like. He always make them explosive and entertaining.
I just wish that to add to his explosive, athletic, high impact offense, he would have taken the time to develop some decent grappling/ jiu jitsu defense.
Then he really would have been "The Monster".

Kevin Randelman has the same problem as all the other Hammer House guys...they are just too one dimensional. KR and Mark Coleman are world class wrestlers who can do effective ground and pound and little else. In a way it's sad because they could have been so much more.
I thought KR should have gotten the decision over Bas back in the day...yet that fight was textbook in exposing his limitations. Years later he's still playing the same old game...while others have just passed him by. Like Watching Paint Dry (who was always astounded at the vertical leaping skills of KR during his intros)

For every 10 promising fighters ther are 10 failures. Kevin R. was one such failure, him and Kerr, Vitor.. and several others simply just didn't make that next leap. These are people who's carreer is to be the stepping stone for greater fighters.
Someone has to be that stepping stone, so it's not as shameful one might think. If Randleman had bounced back his record might have looked more like Randy's.. up and down, up and down instead up up........then down like a rock.
It would have been cool if he would have trained with Team quest.
