Simply an awesome video that captures in full the changing of the guard that marks the current era. Every fan needs to see this and then see it again. I loved the Silva/Jackson pro wres style angle beforehand along with the build up clips and backstage promos. Nogueira was a great Champion and remains one of the best in the world but I just can't see him beating Fedor.
A BJJ background has typically been a must for any professional fighter to be successful but with all the innovations in training, sprawling, defending the clinch and submission escapes so much that was effective in the past can be neutralized. Watch as Fedor completely blows through Nogs guard leaving him a helpless beaten mess. Fedor took Ground and Pound to another level against the best heavyweight submission specialist in the world and unlike everyone else he's faced Nog has found no answer.
Like Watching Paint Dry (who suspects if Nog/Fedor fought each other 10 times Fedor would win 9 of them and 'maybe' dropped one by decision...he's just that much better)

Chute Box has perfected the use of Muay Thai in MMA. Their techniques are modified to adjust to takes downs brilliantly. From the clinch nobody is safe. QJ seems to have lost his killer instinct and was outclassed from the opening bell. Shogun is just a deadly stand up fighter. After winning the Pride GP Tourney I can't see how he'd be content to stay in Silva's shadow for very long.
Kid may be the best 5' 4 fighter I've ever seen.
Pound for pound Royler is among the best Sport BJJ grapplers in the world but he's had real difficulty making the transition to MMA. It was sad to watch RG reduced to nothing more on his feet than clinching and trying to pull guard. The game has evolved so much and watching Royler here is like watching someone who learned his strategy trapped in a museum.
Like Watching Paint Dry (who suspects that even more than the age issue Rickson's main reasons for avoiding big money fights is his realization that 'pure Gracie Jiu Jitsu' even when performed at the highest of levels just isn't enough to be competitive against today's elite)

Fedor just totally dominated Herring until the end of the round and the damage led to a ref stoppage. HH had him in some trouble at the end...more than I've ever seen him in with a barrage of knees from North and South. I wonder what would have happened had the round time not elapsed. Arona was worn out from the earlier war with Silva that night. Still Shogun seems to be the man to beat in the Middleweight Division. I'd love to see these two Chute Box fighters go at it down the road. Ken doing his uber-serious pro wres style promos will likely be a fixture throughout TUF 3. It'll be interesting to see if the television production team prompts Tito to play 'straight man' in order to set a 'disciplined fighter environment' tone or if they allow him to goof on Ken like he did here. Good times ahead. Some more Muay Thai: My pick to win the 2006 K1 World Max Buakaw Por Pramuk tinyurl.com/9k6quA classic as two 8 year olds do battle in Thailand in the deadly sacred art of the 8 limbs of destruction.
