How is the current Spider-Man, the "mystical inheritor of the Spider Totem" or whatever, who ate...ATE his enemy Morlun, and shed his freaking skin, more like his original characterization again?
The late-90s "Spider-Man as Batman" stuff was LOADS better than this garbage...even the Clone Saga, of which that awesomely touching Aunt May death scene was a part.

Yeah I gave up Spider Man at the end of the Clone Saga. From reading the above, it looks like it was a good idea.

They've been ignoring the JMS garbage for the most part and thankfully he's going to be off Amazing soon. During Civil War and the lead ups after the Other have been some of the better Spidey stuff in a long time.

I remember several years ago when I decided to get back into comics, I saw a huge sale at New England Comics. Insane discounts. So I placed an order for tons of stuff, back issues of the classic EC comis reprints (like Piracy, Tales of Terror, Crime, etc) and also some of NEC's world war II comics. All told I mailed in a money order for a shade under $200 bucks. A few weeks later a UPS truck shows up and delivers a tiny box. I was like, What's this? NEC sent me a total of 9 comics (I had ordered about 100) and said, "We're sorry but we were sold out of just about everything. Here are the books we have in inventory, and a gift certificate for you to use at our online store." They wouldn't refund my cash and said that I had to use the remainder at their online store. No way I was doing that. Total screw job. I had to call them and scream and rant for the better part of a month, plus contact the better business bureau to recoup my money. So be wary of some of these too good to be true sales.

Meh, nothing like going into the comic store and being totally overwhelmed by the inventory!

FWIW, I'm only going with this company because I have a friend that uses them, and has used them for over a year now...he had one problem that was resolved immediately. So, yeah, I'm not going in blind.

That's cool. I used to buy from new comic mail order services a lot when I lived out in the boonies. But now that I'm back in Fresno, there are 3 or 4 excellent comic shops I can visit. I've been meaning to get back into comics. But the prices are keeping me away right now. The only books I tend to buy are limited series, or one-shots by some of the smaller indy publishers and Dark Horse. I'm also starting to pick up some of the cheaper collected editions of older comics titles. They're nice little trips down memory lane. Back when the writers didn't tend to put so much of their personal politics and crap into the heroes mouths. Man, I hate being lectured by a superhero while reading a comic about global warming, pollution, or homophobia. XD. Just give me Green Arrow punching some hood in the teeth. Save the politics.

All right, if superheroes were around today, would you be in favor of Registration or not?
Me, I would say no to registration. I think they are doing their civic duty, and doing this on their own time. Not being forced to fight allows them the lattitude to do it and stay interested. They want to ewear a funny costume while they are protecting me, fine.

Totally against. And I hope Captain America gets another shot at Iron Man, so he can feed Stark his armored hat.
Many of these heroes put their lives on the line on a daily basis to keep john and jane q. public safe from super powered criminals. Most do not earn an income from their roles as super heroes and would expose themselves and their loved ones to great risk if their identities were leaked (and we know how good the U.S. government is at concealing the identities of people ~ sarcasm)...
The only ones that need to be positively identified are those who break the law with the intent of harming others or theft, etc. Super villains in other words.

I am a huge Cap fan and hate Iron Man so I am really looking forward to Cap rearranging his metal arse.
And once Thor figures out he's been duped, it will all come around. No way, not in my lifetime of reading Thor for over twenty years, would he agree to be sactioned by a human government. He is a god for freakin' sake and an arrogant one at that!

I listened to some of the Marvel comic con civil war panel (at Marvel.com) discussions and learned some interesting things. Nothing confirmed. But one of the Marvel bigwigs said that Peter Parker is starting to realize that in pledging his support to Stark he has made a deal with the devil, and that Spidey wants to switch sides. And also, Ben Grimm is starting to split from Reed Richards and may leave the country over the superhero registration act.

Actually those things have started. Ben is officially listed with the "Resistance" and is leaving the country to go to France. In the last two issues of ASM, which deal with the aftermath of Peter's revelation to the world, he is torn about his decision. And JJJ files a lawsuit against Peter for misinterpretation of character or something, for millions. I hope that they do not pull an "Aunt May" have end up having this be a clone or something stupid. I want Peter to have to stand by his decision, and deal with the consequences. None of this crap to say it never happened. I would love it if many of the heroes never trusted Iron Man again. Tony is simply a businessman, and this is a business matter for him. He needs his comeuppance for hitting Cap. They were friends. Scumbag. .

Ben going against Cap was another thing that made me feel icky. But to see him switch sides? That's good stuff.
In the Earth X future, the Bugle (and JJJ) was ruined when Spider-Man's identity was revealed, because it completely destroyed the credibility of Jonah and the paper. Pretty much how it should have been handled here, IMHO.

I'm with you there...the basic premise of the story sounds good, but I SERIOUSLY doubt the ability of this crop of writers to pull it off. Especially when, as Fred pointed out, they're using it to cram their political agendas down our throats as well
