I saw on SportsCenter tonight that Curt Schilling came within one out of throwing his first career no hitter today in Boston's 1-0 victory over Oakland.

Great outing by Schilling. For the Red Sox, we needed this one. We basically need every win we can take in the month of June.
Any true Red Sox fan knows that the Sox always start off hot every season, and stay hot until right around the end of the NBA Finals. Then they start slumping, as part of their annual "June Swoon." This has been the case every year since I've followed the Sox, right around 2000 or so. But David Ortiz snapping his home run drought and Schilling pitching 8 2/3 inning of no-hit ball? I'll take it.

8 IP, 1R? Wakey pitch well tonight. ;D
Seriously, it took the Sox this long to decide on beginning the lineup with Pedroia, Youkilis, Papi, Manny, JD, and Lowell? Personally, I would switch Lowell with Drew and follow up with V-Tek while Coco Crisp and Julio Lugo continue to try to "find" their swings.

I am already predicting Sox will knock off Yankees out of the wildcard contention

well, I'm not going to count the Yankees out yet... but it sure would be nice for the Yankees to go home in October for once.

Red Sox sweep the Giants... Now we're back to .500 for the month of June.
Yesterday's 1-0 win made me nervous as hell, as all 1-0 games do. But of course with Okajima and Papelbon closing the games, you're in about as good of hands as you can expect in this game today.
Pedroia rocks, and hopefully J.D. Drew can start something going again with his 3-hit performance on Friday night. Manny continuing to hit home runs is not a bad thing either.
On the other hand, Julio Lugo is hitting dangerously close to the Mendoza Line. Lugo has been playing like poop ever since the all-star break last year. When is Tito going to start thinking about starting Alex Cora at shortstop instead of Lugo?

I REALLY like Drew leading off.. he takes alot of pitches, and walks alot, even if he can't hit... I hope him and Pedroia 1-2 is permanent...
If anyone would like to take Crisp, I'd be a happy guy.

Drew leading off is great, I hadn't thought of it before.
I'm watching the Sox-Braves game now, and Coco Crisp just hit a 3-run. Is it too soon to point out that he's got a seven-game hitting streak going?

Drew goes 2-2 with a dinger and a double, and gets replaced by Wily Mo in the 3rd?
What exactly does "tightness in the right quad" mean?

well, "traded" in this situation is not as bad as saying "We like Carlos Zambrano better than you."

Hey Wildfire,
Nice feel-good win today with five home runs, five doubles, and fifteen total hits. Now down to other ugly stuff...
Julio Lugo: .201 Batting Average.
Mendoza Line anyone?
For the sake of God, bench him and start Alex Cora permanently already!

Definately nice to see a big offensive game like that.
I had Alex Cora on my fantasy team when he was a Dodger, and he's one of those guys that does worse the more he plays... I wouldn't mind him playing 3 or even 4 times a week at Short for Lugo though.
Crisp is definately on a roll, its about time really.

I've determined that if the Red Sox play on tv, it's better I don't watch. Was working tonight so of course they won! Thanks Braves for rolling over.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that the Red Sox currently appear to be in the lead for acquiring Mark Buehrle:
According to a source close to the situation, negotiations between the White Sox and Mark Buehrle's camp have been exhausted, with GM Ken Williams believing he has no choice but to trade the left-hander. The only question now is where? At least seven teams have made serious contact with Williams, with three actually having the resources to pry Buehrle from the White Sox. The Braves and Mets were the leading contenders until this weekend, with the Red Sox now becoming the front-runner.
So if this trade goes through that would give the Red Sox a rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Dice K, Buehrle, and Wakefield. And they could shift Tavarez and Lester to long relief. Wow!

Yeah, I think this is mostly one of those things to keep the guy away from other teams (mostly the yankees)
If it does happen, I just hope they get it done with Lester, Del Carmen or Lowry, rather than Bucholz and Ellsbury.
I'll LOVE to see Wake in the bullpen (imagine the going from Beckett to Wakefield to Papelbon) NO ONE can hit that.. if only Veritek could catch the knuckle ball...

I fully agree with you, Wildfire. Buerhle is the real deal, but Bucholz and Ellsbury will be gold for a long time.
