Actually, the Red Sox sweep has forced the Yankees to bring up Phil Hughes much earlier than they originally intended.
I wouldn't get too big of a head about this weekend's sweep as I was telling my fellow Sox-fan buddy... after all, the Yankee lineup did handle our top three pitchers pretty damn well. When their rotation gets healthy again, they're going to play us tough. This coming weekend in New York could also be a rough ride...

Sweep the Yankees and have already lost one and pretty close to losing two to Toronto. April is not the time to start celebrating beating the Yankees, guys!

The Red Sox just dropped 2 in a row baby to my beloved Blue Jays. And they are missing their starting thirdbaseman, left fielder and closer.

By the way, I hope just like everyone else that Jon Lester will be ready to pitch soon. But Kason Gabbard pitched well today. Maybe it's only because Jerry Remy also endorsed him last season (I think his article is still up on boston.com), but he's one of the starters of the future.

hmm, if a Golden Sombrero is 4 strikeouts, what do you call it when you strike a guy out 5 times?

Today was the first time since they took wrestling off Saturday nights that I was glad to have TBS. Atlanta is the adopted team of North Carolina and I hate 'em. 30-12!

Man, Red Sox-Yankees again. And somehow, the Yankees pitching staff has ours outmatched. That will be the first and last time that happens this season, but you can't blame the Bronx Boys for trying their best to stack the rotation against us after the way we have embarrassed them so far this season.

well, when Wakey's on, he's on. Remember how he baffled the Yankee hitters in the 2003 ALCS?
(just don't bring up Aaron Fuckin' Boone)

Hideki Okajima: gives up a home run in his very first major league pitch...
...I was hoping he would stay scoreless for the rest of the season, but alas all good things come to an end. 20 2/3 scoreless innings ain't too shabby either. Here's to another 20 2/3 scoreless innings.
Paps got me nervous, but he got the job done.

Yes, I agree that this coverage would be annoying to anyone that wasn't a part of those two teams' fanbases. There are tons of people here in Baltimore that never have any idea who to root against when the Sox and Yankees meet in the postseason.

Great to see how classy both the Red Sox organization and the fans were last night (at times, you can't really say the same about either of them). Trot Nixon was a player who bled Red Sox for thirteen years, and at one time was the only homegrown player on the entire team. Injuries made us decide to pursue options elsewhere (plus Theo Epstein insisted on paying J.D. Drew more money to put up lesser numbers), but it was nice to see Trot get a nice, warm reception in his first game back at Fenway. The organization even had Trot's wife throw out the first pitch of the game.
Red Sox are now 35-15, with a winning percentage of .700 in their first 50 games.
Here's to hoping they keep playing .700 for their next 50 games...

Jim Thome, one of the nicest guys in the league (#2 if you ask SI), is booed like he killed someone everytime he comes to the plate in Cleveland.

Sweet. Beckett comes back strong, and Okajima picks up the save.
Don't look now, but I think that Kevin Youkilis' OPS rating is currently over 1.000. The Boston papers are trying to annoint him as the next Big Papi/Manny, which I'm not sure about yet. But I do know that on top of his 21-game hitting streak, he also has a 9-game multi-hit streak running. I'm sure glad that we didn't trade him to Oakland for Billy Beane back in 2002 when he was just a farmhand. Theo has done just as good of a job as Beane would have done anyway, and I really did not agree with some of the moves Beane was thinking about making in that book Moneyball.

Strong win by the Red Sox today. Even though Billy Beane and Paul DePodesta called Kevin Youkilis the "Greek God of Walks" when he was just a farmhand in the Boston system, I was a little disappointed in seeing him walk three times today, ending his 23-game hitting streak.
Dustin Pedroia gets three hits again for the second game in a row. I'm telling you, during spring training a bunch of us were all wondering who the hell Dustin Pedroia was. The college and single-A ball stats are impressive. He batted .400 his senior year with a .500 OBP which he carried through single A Augusta. Last season in Pawtucket he started off slow, and then got really hot and stayed above .300 for the rest of the season. The only thing is that he is a crappy baserunner who got caught stealing all of the time, so as far as Kevin Youkilis' little bet about who's a better runner on the basepaths, I'd actually go with Youk.
I hope Doug Mientkeiwicz is okay. I still liked him from back when he was Kevin Millar's late-inning replacement at the end of 2004 when he came over on one of the multi-team trade that sent Nomar to the Cubs.
Seriously though, I have no idea what Torre was thinking today with his choice of relievers in a close game. Why would he go with Scott Proctor in a close game to begin with, after Proctor nearly beaned Youk last night? Proctor was nervous as hell about throwing inside, and didn't have good control on the outside half of the plate. And then, WHY ON EARTH would you intentionally walk Manny Ramirez with Ortiz already on in order to get to the hottest hitter in the major leagues who Proctor has to be even more careful not to throw inside to? Worked out well for us though, since Proctor walked Youk on four pitches that weren't even close to the plate to load up the bases and cost the Yankees the entire game.
