the three teams I have on my yahoo sports scoreboard are the Red Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Yankees.
Well, the Reds squeaked by the Braves today, and the Yankees lost (to the Baltimore Orioles, no less). If the Sox can do their part and win their game against the D-Rays, it would make my day...

Manny's hitting streak ends... but the BoSox still win. I love how Boston has the Orioles' number. Serves them right since I still remember that year when they beat Boston a bunch of times and lost to the Yankees in almost every game, which probably was the difference that gave the Yankees the home field advantage over the Sox in the playoffs.
I can't wait for the Red Sox to come back to town in September. Camden Yards is basically a second Fenway whenever the Sox come here.

Tiger nation invades! Break yourself! ;D Detroit beats Schilling and Beckett. I hope that both Boston and NY make the playoffs because the White Sox look to have the Tigers' number this year. Go Red Sox and Go Yankees! (except whe playing Detroit of course )

You guys played well this series. I'll give you that.
Beating Schilling and Beckett in the same series is tough to do, no matter how overrated I actually think Beckett is (yeah, I said it). Now I just hope that you return the favor to the Yanks and beat them too.
Hopefully we'll see you again in the playoffs.

crap.. our bullpen is shot, and after Saturday's game, I im'ed my yankee-fan friend and unfortunately told him that I could see the Yankees winning all five games and replacing the Boston Massacre of '78 with the 2006 version..
Way to go, Tito. Put Papelbon in the absolute worst position possible to see if he fails. Eighth inning with bases loaded and no outs, I can't imagine a worse position for a closer to be in.

You know I like the Red Sox but I think you have to see it like this. Being a Detroiter, we love all of our teams greatly as do the Boston fans. Every year, people get so fired up for the Lions it's crazy. But I think we've used up all our "luck" on the other franchises. Whenever I hear Boston fans complain about the Sox, I just think, 3 Super Bowls in the last 5 years, 22 Basketball championships, the 2004 World Series, the Bruins have won the Stanley Cup. I think you're doing just fine. ;D But I understand that the bar is high for the Red Sox. It's gonna be a close race for the post season this year.

You know, Payback, when I read this post I thought that you were absolutely right. Thanks for putting things in perspective. I think it has something to do with the fact that in Boston, the winters are wicked harsh (you Detroiters can relate), and in the three months of summer that we do have, it is hot as balls, and most of us suffer through it without the use of air conditioning. That, and the fact that East Coasters are in general one uptight group of people make the Red Sox Nation one passionate, but bitter bunch. Stephen King summed it up quite nicely, when he wrote in 2004: The Sox might be done this season, but it's not like they won't be ready to compete again next year, so I'm done whining about them. Instead, I am now turning my attentions to my NL team, the Cincinnati Reds whose mediocre ballplay continues to make me believe they can limp into the wildcard, which would be good enough for me even if they got swept in the first round, just as long as they get into the playoffs. But as for a team that I want to go all of the way, I've definitely got my eyes on the Detroit Tigers. It's great to see other teams and other cities win too.

just bringing this thread back to the top of the list, since HW61 couldn't find it before.
And I have mixed feelings about paying 51.1 million just for the right to sign Daisuke Matsuzaka, although Theo seems confident that we can make it all back through advertising to the Japanese market.

Sox fans, it's opening day!
Just because Tavarez is our fifth starter is no reason to go into hiding.

1-1 tie, bottom of the second as I type this. I always hate playing the Royals because the last few years they've done well against the Sox. Why couldn't we have started against Tampa Bay? Tony Pena Jr. just hit a triple....

They can't win EVERY game..
I AM concerned about Schilling though, seems like he's got too many distractions right now.

7 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 10 strikeouts...
Not too shabby, even with all of the pressure that people are piling on to Dice-K.
