I like horror movies, but I want to see a good one. The last two I have watched ahve just pissed me off. I just watched Descent and it was ok until they fought the monsters. The blind monsters ducked and dodged the attacks. How they are blind. And do not use sonar have have no sense of smell. How do they avoid all the attacks.... How.
Jeepers Creepers was another one that just erks me. The girl owns an old Chevy, she drove it all across the U.S. and during the whole movie she grinds the gears. If she did that as often as she did in the movis I don't think she would have made it out of her state. And don't get me started on the police station scene.
I want to be scared not have my intelligence insulted. I can ignore a lot in a movie and forgive a lot but don't insult the fans watching the movie.
Can someone recommend a good horror movie. It doesn't have to be gory. I really like the first Blair Witch Project. Suspence horror's work for me as well.

David Cronberg's early work...Rabid was very good....for a cheesy cheap 80's slasher flick....I recommend Slaughter High...

Of the movies currently in theatres, I saw and definitely consider "Grindhouse" (with both of its two parts "Planet Terror" and "Death Proof") to be a really good horror movie.
I know that Vacancy also came out last weekend. The premise sort of interests me, but I don't know how good Vacancy actually is.

Eh, not a fan of the director of Jeepers Creepers. Look up info on him.
Personally, I'm looking forward to Halloween (Zombie's). I think he'll stay true enough to the story, but have his own twist on it. Plus, Tyler Mane is playing Myers. That's one big Michael Myers!
Agree with steelthunder. I'm a Cronenberg fan. One of my favorite quotes came from him:
"All stereotypes turn out to be true. This is a horrifying thing about life. All those things you fought against as a youth: you begin to realize they're stereotypes because they're true."

If you like gory movies, nothing tops John Carpenter's The Thing! Made in 1982, it is still the standard in which to measure good gory movies. It wasn't campy like the dumb Nightmare on Elm Street movies either. The Thing has good actors (Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, etc), and some of the goriest effects ever! Highly recommend this! Just don't watch the severely edited TV version!
If you don't like that amount of gore, maybe the first Saw movie would be better? I was expecting a slasher film for that one, but was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't one. (As you can tell by my avatar, I am a Saw fan ;D).
The first two HellRaisers are some of my faves too.
Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses and its sequel, The Devil's Rejects, are an acquired taste. Not sure if you would like those.
And don't forget John Carpenter's They Live! More of a sci-fi flick than a horror movie, it starts out slow, but it's pretty good. Stars Roddy Piper, don't you know?

They Live was the best movie involving a wrestler.....EVER!!!! I still use the one Roddy quote from this movie at least once a year (in jest, of course): "I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick a--, and I'm all out of bubblegum."

One of my favorite horror movies of recent years was Dawn of the Dead that was a great remake which was much better than the original. 28 days also good.

The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a true horror movie in every sense of the word The first time I watched this and Leatherface showed up, it scared the crap out of me. I've watched it many times since then but I still do a little jump during that part. 28 Days Later is good as well as Night of the Living Dead. If you don't mind foreign films, look into some Dario Argento movies likes Suspiria and Deep Red. Sometimes gory but has the elements of thrillers to them as well.
