The original Nosferatu flick from the 20s. The guy they had playing Dracula was really creepy. My wife even commented on him the other night. We said can you imagine people, who just started watching movies in the 20s, seeing this guy on film. I bet they were scared sh*************** for nights!

LOL, my brother and I had this same conversation coming out of Saw III the other night. He said "can you imagine if that movie was released in the 1940s?"

The original Nosferatu flick from the 20s. The guy they had playing Dracula was really creepy. That dude was very creepy! I have a version of that with Type O Negative's music set as the soundtrack. Pretty cool stuff. I like a lot of the older horror movies, like Bela Legosi as Dracula or Boris Karloff as Frankenstein. They'd show those all the time when I was a kid, and they always creeped me out. I like the Hammer Films versions of Dracula from the 60s or 70s too. My hands down scariest movie experience is Jaws. That movie still freaks me out. For newer movies, I like Silence of the Lambs, Seven and Saw. Blair Witch Project was nervewracking too, but I was really hungover when I saw it in the theater, so that might have had some influence. I've never found the Exercist to be scary, although that crab walk down the stairs is quite disturbing. I suppose at the time it was heavy stuff, and if I saw it when I was younger, it probably would have left a mark. I thought the House on Haunted Hill remake from the late 90s was freaky. The scene where the millionaire is locked in that spinning room is pretty creepy. There was some other weird stuff in that one too, but I haven't seen it in a long time. Random grumblings from an insomniac......

Speaking of the Exorcists... Back when we were like 18-19, we had our ex girlfriends over my friends house to watch it. Of course we knew it would scare them, and that was the plan...if you catch my drift!!! About halfway through, his freaking toilet seat just fell, making a huge crash. That about scared the crap out of us and left us empty handed that night!

John Carpenter's THE THING! This movie is still the only thing that still gives me bad dreams.
Good movies mentioned all around. My other faves are Saw & Saw 2 (obviously), and HellRaiser 2. I'm not into slasher movies (too predictable for my tastes). Haven't seen Feast yet (the local movie rental place doesn't rent it or the Special Edition of Saw 2), but I will buy it soon.
Getting back to The Thing: Unforgettable special effects, excellent acting, good suspense, and it isn't a campy comedy make it IMO an awesome movie!

My 2-cents...
1) Exorcist....nothing is as scary as this classic. Omg....this is the epitomy of horror.
2) Halloween...the best of the slasher movies...creepy...well done throughout.
3) The Omen ..... this is the 1970s original not the shoddy remake.
4) Texas Chainsaw Massacre.....this is the 1970s original..not the shoddy modern day remakes...why? WHY? Remake this classic, eh Tobe Hooper???
5) Saw ..... the original Saw is fantastic....the sequels have made me think that this whole "torture" genre of modern horror has worn itself out.
Other notable movies, Amityville (original and remake), Dawn of the Dead, the original Night of the Living Dead, The Hills Have Eyes (remake, very creepy), Creepshow, the original Scream, Texas Chainsaw II (although not spooky, definitely a cult classic right up with Rocky Horror Picture Show), Nightmare on Elm Street (the original), New Nightmare (clever movie), Evil Dead, Freddy vs. Jason (fun movie), Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, House of 1,000 Corpses (I don't consider Devil's Rejects a horror movie, per se....but it's a fun flick), and Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
Happy Haunting.
