This is my first foray into the series.....I'm enjoying it so far. Some things aren't great, like the commentating, and I'm not sold on all aspects of the 24/7 mode yet.....but so far I'm having a lot of fun with the game.
Anybody else get it?

I used to play Smackdown 2 on the Playstation a few years back. It was (and still is) one of the best wrestling games out there. Of course the old Nintendo WWF game was awesome for it's time.
I tried Smackdown vs Raw, it must have been the last version and I didn't like it. I do think this one looks amazing graphics-wise, but can't say I've played it yet. Can you make your own wrestler? That was one of the worst implemented features in Smackdown 2 as I never got to wrestle; never got put into the events with my own guy.
I'm due for a better and more updated WWE game. May just have to go get this.

I picked up the game for the 360 last night and have to admit to being impressed so far. The lack of tag team guys in the game, even from the WWE's meager tag roster, is my only major bone of contention with it. The only tag teams in the game are Cryme Tyme, Rated RKO, the Hardys, and DX. No Cade and Murdoch, no London and Kendrick, no WGTT, and no Highlanders.

I get it every year. This might be the last. I see no major difference in the graphics and slight tweaking of the game play. The only major change is to the 24/7 mode which sucks. Before you got cash when you won that you could use to improve your attributes. Now you can use cash to improve your skills some but have to perform the same retarded training exercises to increase your abilities. These training sessions are retarded and it takes forever to build up the stats of a created character. The only reason they added these was to make the season longer. Why did they have to do away with the season mode they had four editions ago. In that one, you'd complete a season but your champions would stay the same. If you were the champ you could start a new season and still be the champ. It allowed you to create some sense of a title history. In 24/7 you don't even know who the champs are. I started out on RAW and then lost a handicap match and was traded to Smackdown. I was then treated to a second ECW invasion angle, Yay!!!! During the first invasion, Good ole JR and the King kept referring me as the champ when I hadn't ever had a title shot. This edition of SDvR will probably keep me from ever buying another edition again. Just like Madden 07 kept me away from 08.

I got it for Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS
Disappointed in the DS Version as you can only play it with the Touch screen/Stylus which I think is stupid
Havent had time to play the PS2 version yet

Same thing happened with me Havoc. I won a ladder match at a PPV and Teddy Long asked me to join Smackdown. I agreed and got the ECW angle again?!? Also kept getting called the champion, but I thought they were talking about me as "championing the cause" v. ECW. They need to go back to the HCTP season mode which I believe is the one you were talking about.
Luckily I'll just spend most of my time now playing it on Xbox Live so I get to enjoy it a little more than the lame 1P modes we got stuck with.

Now that I've had it about a week, I too am starting to tire of the 24/7 mode. I busted my tail, then get stuck in this ridiculous 4-man ladder match for a movie contract.....you fall off the ladder once and you're rolling around on the mat for an obscene amount of time. Finally I gave up and just settled on the loss.
The training stuff is all pretty lame. I'm moving along at a painfully slow pace with skill increases.
The load times, at least with the 360, are atrocious. You have to wait in between everything.
I never got a SvR game before, so this is my first....and I think it's decent.....but definitely lacking in key areas. I don't foresee me ever getting beyond getting my a$$ handed to me online either. That's no fun. Can't compete with the losers living in their mom's basements and playing religiously.

What's the best way to earn $$? Are you stuck with 24/7 mode for that?
I'm trying to build up some cash to unlock Bret Hart and others. My 2k/week salary on Smackdown sure isn't speeding that up.

Some of the events are good once you build up some charism and mic skills you get extar cash for movie premiers and some of that stuff. However, it's the same money you have to use to improve your guy.

Easiest way to earn cash is to create a character, start a 24/7 mode, then go to WrestleMania on the calender, and simulate the entire year. You should end up with a few hundred thousand. You can do this as many times as you like. Rahl

Well, I've been playing Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008 for about a week now. . . Yeah, pretty much done with that. This will have to tide me over until Midway's TNA game comes out. Is this what it's come to? I'm hoping for something good from Midway?

It seems as though the WWE games every year seem to improve in one area, but then lack in another. I have played all of the previous games starting with the first Smackdown Game for Play Station(by the way, you can create your own character in this one, you just can't customize them as well as the others) The examples listed above sound like it is no different with this one.
I think it would be a good idea for WWE to try not to repeat every season over and over ending with the same wrestlemania. It would be cool if they could set up 3 years, like they do in ESPN 2k5, in franchise mode etc. If possible, it would be cool to include old wrestlers from the past. If they started with 2005, they can go with the regular transition of wrestlers leaving, or retiring or trying to keep their contract in GM mode. Then, bring in new guys, ie Cody Rhodes, as well as created characters. It may be too complicated, but cool nonetheless.
I'll have to check out Smackdown vs Raw 2008 when it is available at Blockbuster.

After a week or so now, my overall feeling is that SvR 08 isn't the greatest wrestling game in the world and doesn't feel quite worth $60, but I'm enjoying it.
With that said, I had to groan when they incorporated one of my least favorite things about WWE right into the game -- the tired, overused "wrestler vs. the McMahons" thing, complete with constantly having to endure handicap matches and stacked odds.
Man, the most unoriginal, lame WWE storyline slapped right into the video game.
It would appear that I'm past that for now though, thankfully. Even though, at one point, Stephanie made me choose between giving up the title or stubbornly refusing...and when I selected refusing and keeping the belt, they just appeared to ignore it and strip me of it anyway.

Has anyone tried this out on the Wii yet? I'm getting a review copy shortly that will be that version. I'd like to say that THQ/Yuke's will impress me, but I've been let down by them so many times that I've pretty much given up hope.

This f-ing game. Another 3-way ladder match before I get my title shot.
They aren't even fun. 100% frustration.
