Guess I should've held onto my PS2, I still could get one with this game... that is a great game.

This could be a great game when it comes out. However, I hope the AI is better. I got bored with FPW on the GBA because the regular wrestling matches would drag on and on with no one trying to beat the other. I also hope we have a season mode or something similar.
Take care,
Jay

If you set it the style of match to American they will be shorter.

Somewhere between the end of 2007 and the start of 2008. All that really needs to be done are translations and maybe a few colour swaps for the guys who are now in WWE and TNA (AJ Styles, Brian Kendrick, Great Khali among others) to avoid licensing issues.

It's on the PS2. People have put up saves on the internet via PC through Action Replay and other cheat devices. I'd try to explain it more but my damn Swap Magic isn't working so I can't play the darn game.

Got the game working and now I can't get it out of my head! My first match was myself as Jushin Lyger against the Great Muta. The attention to detail is fascinating. At the end Muta was about to do the Mist but Lyger ducked it, whipped him to the ropes, hit him with a Shotei, landed a Brainbuster and hit a Shooting Star Press to win!
My next match was Toshiaki Kawada facing NOAH's Mohammed Yone. Kawada's intro music is almost exactly like his real one. Again, some nice detail in moves. I knock down Yone and Kawada sits him up. Just when it looks like he is about to kick him in the spine, he suddenly turns around and kicks him in the face! I try the move again in the middle of the ring and Kawada runs to the ropes instead and punts Yone in the face! I end up winning after a German Suplex and a Power Bomb.
After that I done KENTA Vs CIMA. CIMA kept on blocking my kicks. He ends up nailing me with a Super Kick and drops me with a Schwein. I kick out at 2.9 but he gives me another Schwein for the win. The animation for these moves are awesome. Just seeing CIMA sets his opponent for his finisher is so good to look at.
I decided to take a break from playing and set up an 8 man elimination battle royal which included Keiji Muto, KENTA, Curry Man, Petey Williams, Nosawa, Brian Kendrick, Kushinbo Kamen and Tigers Mask (imagine Tiger Mask dressed as a Henshin Tigers baseball player). So much was going on. Kendrick hit the Sliced Bread #2 on someone, Petey Williams gave Kamen the Canadian Destroyer and Muto done a Shining Wizard right afterwards. Muto went crazy with Dragon Whips and Figure Fours. Nosawa has this excellant looking pinfall that looks like a Koji Clutch into a Cradle. He eliminated 3 guys with it but lost to Muto's Shining Wizard. Since there is only one ref that means that it is difficult to win when there are multiple pinfall attempts at the same time.
I finished it off with an MMA match between who I think were Sakuraba and Wanderlai Silva. I knocked out Silva in the second round with a Mongolian Chop. Again, the detailed animations and gameplay is superb. A lot of counter grappling just like in real life. Just when I thought I got Silva in position, he kicks me and fights back. When he tries to get an Armlock, I counter it into a Kimura while still lying on the mat.
So overall, a great game for wrestling fans. Controls are kind of odd at first as it focuses more on timing than button mashing. Also the more powerful moves will not work unless you wear down your opponent with the weaker moves first. It's still possible to simply demolish your opponent in around 3 minutes but this game focuses more on the balanced style of wrestling.

I just read that FPR is coming to the US in the holiday season 2007. The only thing is they are going to have to make sure to be very careful about copyright laws. WWE and UFC will be watching closely. Zuffa had previously gone after Bam with their previous Firepro game for Gameboy Advance. There are some wrestlers on there already who don't use the name of WWE or UFC guys but use their look and move sets.

I thought this was the original thread about when this game originally came out in Japan. Anyway. This is a great game and most wrestling fans would have fun with this. Plus it sounds like it will be very reasonably priced.

I just hope they have some good game modes. The mode they had in FPR1 where everyone fights everyone was okay, but it got boring after a while. I'd like to see a season-like mode where you can control your wrestler and make him however you want (loyal face or vicious heel), and/or a gm-like mode where you can set up your league and wtach your wrestlers fight for belts, etc.
Take care,
Jay

There is a mode called Match Maker Mode (I think it's renamed as Promoter Mode for the US version) where your create your own fed and run it for a year/12 shows. It only focuses on hiring wrestlers, booking the matches and getting good ratings so you don't have to worry about wrestlers being unhappy and so on. You start off small with only wrestlers from indies like DDT, Osaka Pro and Big Japan available and as you make more money the larger feds will allow you to hire their wrestlers. It's not as detailed as the Smackdown GM mode but it should be enough.
