Apparently, Jerry Jarrett has signed Sting to a new deal to wrestle throughout much of 2006. Sting will have final say on how many appearances, ppv's and shows he does, and he will have a sizeable amount of control over the direction of his character in TNA.
I guess this puts to rest any rumors of his surprise appearance at Wrestlemania 22 (for the Hall of Fame or for an in-ring appearance).

TNA has a thing on their website that says the face of wrestling changes in 2006, find out how this Sunday at Turning Point. I suppose this might be why. TNA is getting a decent amount of support from wrestling legends. It proves to me at least that there is something there that they like. I am sure if they did not believe in the product at all Sting, Heenan, Zbysko, Terry Taylor and more would not be involved. I am sure it is not just the schedule, though that must be nice.

Sting was one of my favorites, so this is great news to me!

I am not sure this is the best move for TNA though. Sting doesn't hold the same kind of star power he did 4 years ago. It might boost their ratings a bit but it might also make their current stars look even worse. Hopefully Sting is still in great shape and doesn't have too much ring rust.

Bad move. I like Sting but he is nearing his 50's already. I'm sure he's not doing it for free and the amount he wants is probably sizeable. He won't boost there ratings much.
I think TNA should go the new blood route and create there stars, not bring in old ones that are past there prime. Push the AJs, Samoa Joes, Rhynos, men of this nature.
Oh well let's see.

I think if used properly Sting can be used to bring older fans to watching TNA and thus seeing what the young guys are doing and will help to get the little guy s some more viewership.
Lets face it, TNA could use a "Legends" program themselves but with more success by having the legends that can still compete work with some of the younger guys to help generate an interest in the new blood.
Dunno but I know I am excited to see some guys I have not seen in a very long time come back and get back into the ring even if it is to talk on the mic or guest announce.

I could buy Sting as the 'new face of wrestling' back in 1988 when he was battling Ric Flair in their first program at the Clash. Almost two decades later in 2005 it's a bit of a stretch. While I won't pretend there's a better immediate term option watching Sting getting the lion's share of the creative time for his program with Jeff Jarrett really won't do much for me personally.
So now in his late 40's Sting is once again playing the role of the 'new kid in town'. Will he prove to be a wise investment? Will his name recognition draw more viewers to the TV show and result in more PPV buys? Time will tell, but I have my doubts.
Like Watching Paint Dry (who heard an audible 'what a rip off' chant as the Sting reveal closed last nights PPV)
There's talk on the street It sounds so familiar Great expectations, everybody's watching you People you meet, they all seem to know you Even your old friends Treat you like you're something new Johnny come lately, the new kid in town Everybody loves you, so don't let them down

I am wondering if he might be going through a image change? Or will he still be wearing the "crow" sting make-up....it almost seemed to me that there might be a bit of a gimmick change, nothing too extreme but to maybe come back as the Original Sting just a little more modern.

Some good points have been made regarding Sting. I've always been a fan of his, and really liked 'the crow' Sting from WCW...so if they brought him back like that, just to wrestle 6-8 times a year and do what Raven is doing now (not on every show, a sort of enigma) then I like it. TNA needs big names...its the reason why Jarrett is still the Champ...in order to build an audience, they need more recognizable wrestlers to the average fan. TNA already has a decent fanbase, but they need to grow it. If they continue to build Samoa Joe, he will help, Christian has helped and will continue to help, and bringing in a guy like Sting, if used right (like how NJPW is using Brock Lesnar) will help. Plus, its only a one year deal, so he really won't be stealing anyone's spot...because when your Sting, you've pretty much carved out your own 'spot' in the industry anyway.

Well I hope for the best. I love Sting, I just hate to see him come in and make himself and TNA look bad at the same time.

On the same note, LWPD, the crowd also started into an audible "Sting, Sting, Sting" chant when the lights went out...they weren't made about Sting being the surprise...they were mad that he wasn't there last night. =)

Sting was one of my favorites, so this is great news to me! I was a big Sting fan, too. I don't think he can help the product much, though. He's not young anymore, and even in WCW he sloed down considerably the last time we saw him. I fear that he'll crowding the main event picture.

Of course, he could also be the new Authority Figure...using the ball bat to enforce his rulings and all that.

MY VIEW on STING... I love this move by both TNA and Sting, this will be a great new year with Sting onboard with TNA. I agree that TNA needs some well known faces and here is one of the best. I'm hoping to see him wrestle, but then again as a GM of sorts would be solid too. I thought the whole ending of Turning Point was sweet, yes Sting being there would have been great too... but I'll take what we get.

I think that Sting will attract some watchers but their emphasis should be on making new stars. I hope they don't follow in the footsteps of WCW and just re-using older wrestlers and not developing new guys.

I'm fearing that TNA is going to kill this thing with Sting. The TNA fans are a great group and they can see through the B.S. I'm not sure they will take to Sting. Plus, the boring chants directed at Jarrett are getting rough. Something needs to be done to make sure this doesn't die an embarassing death.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...what TNA needs is to run a story-line that borders on reality and have AJ, Daniels, Team Canada and a couple other home-grown stars to revolt against the company and thier ball licking of all these washed-up loser WWE and WCW guys (who all not named Christian fall into this category)...
it's the only way this fed is ever going to work and I just don't see it happening.
when thier contract is up with spike, TNA is gone.
