Due to the extremely large size of the roster the NWA has decided to divide into 3 territories in the United States. The AWA, ECW and Mid-South were put under the management of Vern Gagne, Paul Heyman and Bill Watts.
The AWA is the largest of the 3 territories. It has a strong television show airing Tuesday Nights on ESPN. Due to the money and exposure most of the NWA's biggest stars headed here.
The AWA is completely old school. Television matches will feature mostly squash matches and maybe a big match here and there.
AWA Roster:
Ilio Dipaolo w/ Ida Mae Martinez Greg Valentine Brutus Beefcake Johnny Valentine Buddy Rose Billy Lyons Red Bastien Larry Zbyszko Gorgeous George Jim Londos Ed "Strangler" Lewis the Crusher B. AWA Super Clash I: 12/31/05
Controversy started in the AWA before the first match even begin. The NWA Championship committee made a strange decision as NWA World Champion Frank Gotch, NWA United States Champion Bobo Brazil and NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion Antonino Rocca were barred from entering the tournament but the NWA World Tag Team Champions Harley Race and Nick Bockwinkel were allowed to enter.
First Round:
Jim Londos d. Buddy Rose w/ the Boston Crab Rose used his superior size and strength to bully Londos early in the match. But Londos gained the advantage and got the submission with the Boston Crab to advance.
the Crusher d. Larry Zbyszko w/ a cross body block Larry dominated much of the match. He weathered the early storm of the Crusher's brawling and used his technical skills to keep him off his feet. Larry couldn't put it away though and the Crusher wowed the crowd by coming off the top rope with a cross body block for the pinfall.
Ed "Strangler" Lewis d. Iron Mike Dibiase w/ the Strangler's Headlock Lewis struggled here. Dibiase used some high flying moves to keep Lewis off balance. Lewis fought back but was almost beaten when Sherri Martel interfered. But Lewis won in the end with his patented headlock.
Harley Race d. Red Bastien by DQ The crowd was shocked by Bastien's performance here. Bastien hit Race with everything he had and was about to pin him after an Atomic Drop but Bobby Heenan distracted the ref. Bastien headed to the top but was then DQed for pushing the ref out of his way.
Nick Bockwinkel d. Billy Lyons by DQ Bockwinkel wore Lyons down with matwork for the early goings. Lyons took it outside and was DQed for excessive brawling out of the ring.
Ted Dibiase d. Don Leo Jonathan w/ the Million Dollar Sleeper Jonathan's slump continues with another loss. Dibiase impressed many by wrestling a great match and beating Jonathan without the help of Virgil. Jonathan is rumored to be leaving for a tour in Japan in a few days. Hopefully he can get back on the winning track over there.
Ilio Dipaolo d. Johnny Valentine by DQ Valentine only has himself to blame for this one. He got frustrated by Dipaolo and used a chair outside of the ring.
Mil Mascaras d. Gorgeous George w/ the Flying Bodypress Mascaras ran over George and finished him off in mere minutes.
Quarter-Finals
Jim Londos d. the Crusher w/ a short arm scissors Londos tried to have a wrestling match early on but the Crusher wasn't have any of it. The Crusher dominated Londos throughout the middle of the match. Many thought Londos was done but he managed to fight back. Londos surprised many with the win here.
Harley Race d. Ed "Strangler" Lewis The match was back and forth until the ref DQed Lewis for ramming Race into the ringpost. The crowd was not happy with this result.
Nick Bockwinkel d. Ted Dibiase w/ the Bockwinkel Sleeper Bockwinkel finished off Dibiase in under a minute. Dibiase looked totally spent after beating Jonathan earlier in the night.
Ilio Dipaolo d. Mil Mascaras w/ a running head ram to buckle Dipaolo looked more intense than anyone had every seen before. He fought hard and overpowered Mascaras. Mascaras almost put him away later on but missed a corner charge and Dipaolo slammed him into the turnbuckle and got the upset win.
Semi-Finals:
Jim Londos d. Harley Race w/ the Boston Crab The match was over pretty quickly as Londos got the takedown and quickly applied the Boston Crab to get the submission and a trip to the finals.
Ilio Dipaolo d. Nick Bockwinkel by DQ Heenan got involved on the outside and it cost his man a trip to the finals here.
Final: AWA Heavyweight Title Match
Jim Londos d. Ilio Dipaolo w/ the Boston Crab to become the AWA Heavyweight Champion This was an epic battle. Dipaolo wanted it so bad that everyone in the building started rooting for the guy who was a fringe player until now. He hit Londos with everything he had in his arsenal. Londos was busted open after being rammed into the turnbuckle. Dipaolo and the crowd were shocked when Londos kicked out after an Airplane Spin. Londos finally managed to fight back and applied the Boston Crab 3 times before Ida Mae Martinez had seen enough and threw in the towel for her man.
After the bout Ilio Dipaolo presented Jim Londos with the title belt and they shook hands. Londos got on the mic and said he wants his first title defense to be a rematch with Ilio Dipaolo. The crowd exploded in approval.

So to get things right date wise I'll do a second AWA show this week and then will probably do a show every Tuesday. Mid-South will be starting up whenever the Teams set arrives in the mail (probably tomorrow). NWA Japan will also start up when the new set arrives.
AWA Superstars Show #1 1/3/06 airing on ESPN
Recaps of the title tournament and Jim Londos winning the title and then offering Ilio Dipaolo a rematch.
Iron Mike Dibiase d. Dan Mayo w/ the Top Rope Knee Drop Mayo surprised many by getting the better of Dibiase early on but Sherri Martel tripped him up and it allowed Dibiase to get the win.
Jim Londos comes down to the ring for an interview. He talks about the next super show coming up later in the month. He'll be defending the title against Ilio Dipaolo in the main event. Just then Harley Race, Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens attack. They put the boots to Londos until Dipaolo hits the ring with a folding chair and clears them out.
Gorgeous George d. the Gambler w/ the Spinning Toe Hold Easy win for George tonight as he showed off a lot of his offense before ending it for the submission victory.
The tag team title tournament brackets are announced. Round 1 will feature Killer Bees vs. the Dream Team, the Hennigs vs. the Flying Redheads, Road Warriors vs. Mike and Ted Dibiase and the Vachons vs. Bobo Brazil and the Crusher.
Bobo Brazil d. Jonny Boone w/ the Coco Butt Brazil made short work of Boone. Many think Brazil could've won the tournament had he been allowed to enter.
Bobby Heenan comes to the announcers table and starts ranting. The AWA Title is coming to the Heenan Family. His group will continue to attack Londos and any of the challengers until they get their rightful title shot. He's got a former 2 time NWA World Heavyweight Champion in Harley Race. He should be getting the first title shot instead of a nobody like Dipaolo. He also mentions that he's signed the Hennigs to be part of his group.
Road Warriors d. TJ Dalton and Fred Moore w/ the Doomsday Device If you blinked you missed this one.
After the match Mike and Ted Dibiase attack. They knock Hawk out of the ring and double team Animal. They send him into the ropes but Animal levels them with clotheslines. Animal nails Ted Dibiase with a powerslam. Hawk enters the ring and Mike Dibiase gets the Doomsday Device.
Antonino Rocca d. Keith Green w/ the Argentinian Backbreaker Another quick match as Rocca got the submission. Rocca won't be back for a few weeks as he's headed to Japan to defend the NWA Junior Heavyweight Title against the AWA's own Danny Hodge.
Ed Lewis is backstage for an interview. He's demanding his former champion's rematch clause to get a match with NWA World Heavyweight Champion Frank Gotch. He wants the match at the super show coming later in the month. Frank Gotch walks up to the interview and accepts his challenge.
Main Event: Killer Bees d. the Dream Team by DQ Back and forth action for most of the bout. Valentine managed to avoid the Masked Confusion. Blair was taking a beating but Valentine made the classic mistake of pushing the ref and was DQed because of it. The Bees move on and will face the winner of next week's Henngs/Redheads match.
Next Week:
the Hennigs vs. the Flying Redheads - Main Event Mil Mascaras, Larry Zybszko, George Hackenschmidt and Ed "Strangler" Lewis will be in singles action Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens will be in tag team action

AWA Superstars Show #2 1/10/06 airing on ESPN
Mil Mascaras d. Ricky Ramon w/ the Flying Bodypress Mascaras show cased all of his big moves before quickly finishing off Ramon.
Bill Apter's Hot Seat is up next. Bobby Heenan joins us this week. He says that no one but the Heenan Family will be taking the AWA Title off of Londos. Ilio Dipaolo is in their sights for now.
George Hackenschmidt d. Keith Green w/ the Russian Bear Hug Green tried to put up a fight but he couldn't do any damage to the big Russian. Hackenschmidt used a couple of power moves before putting Green to sleep with the Bear Hug.
Frank Gotch comes out for an interview. He wants to be a fighting champion for the NWA. He'll be defending the title against Ed Lewis at the big arena show coming up at the end of the month and he'll be heading to Japan next week to defend the title there.
Ed "Strangler" Lewis d. Don Eastman w/ the Strangler's Headlock Lewis got a waistlock takedown and put Eastman to sleep with his patented headlock.
Road Warriors come out for an interview. They'll face Mike and Ted Dibiase in next week's main event. They tried to get cute last week with their little sneak attack but they'll regret it after they get destroyed next week.
Larry Zbyszko d. Kenny Smith w/ a backbreaker Zbyszko made short work of Smith.
Zbyszko asks for the mic. He wants a rematch with that slob the Crusher. The tournament match was a fluke and he wants to prove it.
Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens d. the Executioners w/ a vertical suplex Bockwinkel showed off a little bit of offense and tagged in Stevens who got the pin after a vertical suplex.
Vern Gagne comes to the announce table. He's fuming over what he heard earlier with Bobby Heenan. He's not going to cave into threats from the talent. This is his promotion and he'll run it the way he wants to. Heenan's boys can wait in line for title shots like everyone else in the AWA. If they don't like it they can find work somewhere else.
Main Event: AWA Tag Team Title Tournament Round 1: the Hennigs d. the Flying Redheads by count out Curt and Larry took turns pounding on Bastien. Curt almost ended it with a sleeper but Bastien nearly escaped. Larry tagged in and rammed Bastien into the ringpost hard and earned the Hennigs a count out win to move to the semis. They'll face the Killer Bees.
Next Week:
Road Warriors vs. Mike and Ted Dibiase Ilio Dipaolo, Mad Dog Vachon, Buddy Rogers and Brutus Beefcake will be in singles action. The Flying Redheads will be in tag team action.

I decided to just wait and do show #8 and the St. Paul show in one sitting.
AWA Superstars Show #8 2/21/06: airing on ESPN
Champions Roll Call:
AWA Heavyweight Champion: Jim Londos AWA Tag Team Champions: the Hennigs AWA United States Champion: Larry Zbyszko
Host is Roger Kent
Danny Hodge d. Lazertron w/ the Oklahoma Side Roll Quick victory for Hodge as he looks ready for his title shot in St. Paul. 1/4*
Larry Zbyszko comes out to the ring with two men in police riot gear. He calls for Vern Gagne to come out. He refuses to work if the Crusher is in the building tonight. It's an unsafe working environment. Gagne says he'll go tell the Crusher to leave. Just then the Crusher charges to the ring and starts to argue with Gagne when Zbyszko's bodyguards attack him. They hand cuff the Crusher to the ropes and beat him with their night sticks while Zbyszko stomps him.
Fabulous Kangaroos d. the Rando Twins w/ the Boomerang Total domination for the Kangaroos. DUD
Frank Gotch comes to the ring for an interview. He talks about how Brazil and the Sheik are good wrestlers that they just aren't in his league.
the Sheik d. Fred Moore w/ the Fireball Short but the Sheik did a lot of damage to his opponent before hitting the illegal Fireball for the win. 1/4*
Abdullah Farouk grabs the house mic. He tells everyone that they're looking at the next NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Don Leo Jonathan d. the Gambler w/ the Mormon Swing The Gambler gave Jonathan some trouble here. He kept getting brief spurts of offense in right when it looked Jonathan was about to put it away. His luck finally ran out though and Jonathan got the win. **
Jim Londos comes to the ring for an interview. He dodges questions about future opponents because he doesn't want to overlook Iron Mike Dibiase.
Killer Bees d. Keith Green and Jonny Boone w/ the Bee Sting Quick win for the Bees. DUD

AWA St. Paul Civic Center Show: 2/24/06
NWA United States Title and NWA Television Title Unification Match: Bobo Brazil d. the Sheik by DQ Wild brawl that ended with the Sheik getting DQd for a chairshot outside the ring. *1/2
NWA Junior Heavyweight Title Match: Danny Hodge d. Antonino Rocca (c) by DQ This was a heart breaking moment for Hodge. He finally had Rocca beat but the ref decided to DQ Rocca for outside the ring brawling. It was a back and forth technical battle most of the way with Hodge slowly starting to control more of the match as it went on. He finally beats Rocca in a title match but doesn't get the belt. ***1/2
Ed "Strangler" Lewis d. Ilio Dipaolo w/ the Strangler's Headlock Quick match here as Lewis ends it in a few moves. Dipaolo's tournament run back in December is seeming more and more like a fluke as he can't capture that intensity again. DUD
the Destroyer d. George Hackenschmidt w/ the Figure Four Leglock Total domination by the Destroyer as he just attacked the knees of the big Russian until he could apply his finishing hold. **1/2
Fabulous Kangaroos d. the Gambler and Keith Green w/ the Boomerang Another quick and dominating win from the Kangaroos. DUD
Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens d. the Flying Redheads w/ the Bockwinkel Sleeper This was a high flying match. Stevens and both of the Redheads wowed the crowd with their speed and hey Bockwinkel wasn't doing too bad himself. The Redheads put up more of a fight than was expected. They heaped a lot of abuse on Stevens but Bockwinkel wasn't so easy to deal with and he used his mat work to win the match. ***
Mil Mascaras d. Don Leo Jonathan by DQ This match was about the agility of Mascaras vs. the power of Jonathan. It was a back and forth battle where both men came close to ending it several times. Jonathan got DQd for ramming Mascaras into the ringpost. **3/4
AWA Tag Team Title Match: the Hennigs (c) d. Killer Bees w/ a roll up to retain the titles This was an excellent match. Early going saw the Bees making quick tags to keep the powerhouse Larry off balance. Curt tagged in and held controlled both Bees for the middle portion. The Bees fought back. Blair came off the top rope with a cross body but Curt rolled it through to steal a pinfall victory. ****
Larry Zbyszko d. the Crusher by DQ The Crusher had suffered a moderate injury for this match. Zbyszko was smelling blood and kept attacking the injured knee of the Crusher. The Crusher finally had enough and KOd Zbyszko with a chair for the DQ. **
Road Warriors d. the Executioners w/ the Powerslam Quick win. DUD
AWA Heavyweight Title Match: Jim Londos (c) d. Iron Mike Dibiase by DQ Londos dominated the entire match. Dibiase was clearly outclassed here. The ending came when the debuting King Kong Bundy charged into the ring and crushed Jim Londos with the Avalanche. **
NWA World Heavyweight Title Match: Bobo Brazil d. Frank Gotch (c) w/ the Coco Butt to win the title Brazil wasn't going to waste his one chance to win the title as he went on the attack right away. He pounded away at Gotch with power moves and brawling. He wore Gotch down with a bear hug. Gotch managed to fight back and tried to ground Brazil with his mat game. It went back and forth like this for a long time. The key was that Brazil kept applying the bear hug to wear down Gotch. Brazil finally hit the Coco Butt and got the pinfall to finally win the NWA World Heavyweight TItle. He posed with all three title belts to end the show. ****1/2
Next Week:
Jim Londos and Ilio Dipaolo vs. Iron Mike Dibiase and King Kong Bundy Frank Gotch, George Hackenschmidt, Ted Dibiase and Ray Stevens will be in singles action. The Flying Redheads will be in tag team action.

Interesting take Mad Dog.. .very true to the Territory era.. I'm not sure I could play all those squashes without losing interest. Are your jobbers you own creations, or are you using a generic type card?
I'm suprised Londos is so dominant with all the great talent you're using here, very interesting. Buddy Rogers and Bockwinkel were always the class of the fed for me when I used them..
I really like the House Shows... the squashes on the show really make them important, very old school dynamic.

The jobbers are COTG jobber cards. I match them up depending. So a jobber like say Keith Green will be a different card from week to week depending on who he's facing. Some weeks it's a little boring but the matches are usually quick. I prefer it though as I can build almost anyone into a challenger. It also helps that my other territories aren't all squash based.
Jim Londos has been a surprise to me as well. I'm kind of giving him lower grade opponents to start to get a few months out of him as champ. He's going to run into Bockwinkel or Rogers sooner than later though.
