Wow, Brazil and Mascaras have their work cut out for them... will need to be at the top of their game to survive Bundy and Ox. You should put up a poll to predict the winners! Hey, don't go against my pick there Dave

I think my second prediction of Inoki and Rikidozan could be pretty solid. I could see them make it to the end. These two are major contenders!

SAMMARTINO INVITATIONAL Saturday May 27, 2006 First Round
Bracket A
The Regulators defeated United States Tag Team Champions Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff (managed by Nikita Breznikov). Bob Orton Jr and Richard Hutton started off the First Round by scoring an upset as Orton Jr. pinned the Iron Sheik via a SUPERPLEX. In addition to being eliminated from the Sammartino Invitational, the Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff were immediately informed by Major League Wrestling (MLW) owner and GM Bruno Sammartino that they will have to defend their United States Tag Team Championship on Monday against a tag team whose identity will be revealed tomorrow (Sunday) night!
European Tag Team Champions the Greek Gods defeated Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champions Generation X. Generation X held their own and worked together to wear down Actagon as Metalhead gave him two Metalhead Maulers and Grunge smashed his guitar over Actagon's head. But Actagon just managed to get his foot on the rope to break up the three count. Grunge then threw Actagon outside of the ring and slammed him into the guardrail before throwing him back into he ring. But Actagon suddenly countered a move by Grunge and managed to apply his GRECIAN SLEEPER GRIP which he refused to relinquish until Grunge submitted.
United States Champion Buddy Rogers and Gorgeous George upset Florida Tag Team Champions the Vachons as Rogers made Butcher Vachon submit to his FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE.
Road Warriors defeated Danny Hodge and Playboy Buddy Rose. Hodge and Rose put up more of a fight than expected and Hodge once almost pinned Animal via a dropkick. But the Road Warriors recovered and regained command and never relented until Hawk pinned Hodge via the DOOMSDAY DEVICE. Killer Kowalski, the Road Warriors's manager, was not at ringside.
Bracket B
In a shocking upset, Georgia Tag Team Champions the Jacobins defeated Frank Gotch and Antonino Rocca. Although Gotch and Rocca started off strong, the momentum shifted decisively to the Jacobins and the Executioner finally pinned Rocca via the HEADSMAN GUILLOTINE to stun everyone as the Jacobins, the #9 seed in Bracket B who had 125-1 odds to win the tournament, picked up their second win in the Sammartino Invitational!
Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions the Gladiators easily defeated the Country Rangers. In their opening match of the Sammartino Invitational, the Gladiators amazed the crowd by completely dominating the Country Rangers and Massacre quickly pinned Dirty Black Bart via the DECAPITATOR. Austin Turk never even got to tag into the match. Afterward, the Gladiators grabbed the microphone and warned the Road Warriors they better hope they do not meet up in the Semifinals on Monday.
Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras defeated King Kong Bundy and Ox Baker (managed by Bobby Heenan)as Mascaras pinned Bundy vis his CROSSBODY ATTACK.
Northeast Tag Team Champions Masked Marauders defeated the Heart Thrashers (managed by Cassandra). as the Destroyer made Brutus Beefcake tap out to his FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK.
Bracket C
Australia Tag Team Champion the Demons defeated the Flying Redheads (managed by Captain Lou Albano). In a surprisingly quick match, the Demons won when Demon #2 made Billy "Red" Lyons submit to a sleeper following THE FINAL ORACLE.
World Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Harley Race (managed by Heenan) defeated Killer Kowalski and the Missing Link. Kowalski and the Missing Link's attempt to use Yukon Eric's severed ear as a good luck charm failed as Bockwinkel made Kowalski tap out to his FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK.
World Tag Team Champions the Midnight Express (managed by Jim Cornett) managed to defeat Mongolia Tag Team Champions Eastern Dynasty. Eastern Dynasty controlled most of this match and, if not for Cornett's timely interference, appeared to score the biggest upset of the Sammartino Invitational as Ghengis Khan seemed to have Bobby Eaton pinned via his TWIN THRUST. After Eaton finally managed to tag in Stan Lane, the Midnight Express regained control but only briefly. The Midnight Express finally escaped with a victory when Eaton suddenly blocked a head ram by Mitsuko the Mongol and then immediately executed his Divorce Court move to score the sudden pinfall victory from out of nowhere. But the announcers ask, if the World Tag Team Champions have this much difficulty defeating the #8 seed in their bracket, how does this bode for them in the remaining rounds?
Japan Tag Team Champion Rikidozan and Antonio Inoki defeated Mexico Tag Team Champions Konnan and Steve Corino. Konnan and Corino started off strong and gave Rikidozan and Inoki all kinds of trouble as they used a series of quick tags to keep Inoki on the defensive. Konnan dazzled the crowd with a series of moves that included his seated dropkick, somersault lariat, and sit out face buster. Corino then almost pinned Inoki via his OLD SCHOOL EXPULSION. Corino then got away with ramming an unidentified ringside object twice into Inoki's throat and then followed this up with 2 superkicks that led to another near pinfall over Inoki. Inkoi finally managed to tag in Rikidozan who quickly proceeded to put Corino away with a series of slaps to the chest followed by a HIPLOCK and his THUNDEROUS CHOPS for the victory.
Bracket D
Dan Severn and Giant Baba scored an upset victory over the Killer Bees as Giant Baba pinned B. Brian Blair. The Killer Bees started off fast and furious with a series of quick tags to maintain their offensive control. Even after Severn gained the advantage, the Killer Bees regained control via their MASKED CONFUSION routine. Severn finally countered an attempt at being thrown into the turnbuckle and tagged in Giant Baba who proceeded to level Blair with his Baba chops followed by 2 piledrivers for the victory.
The Valentines defeated the Valiants (managed by Albano) as Greg Valentine made Johnny Valiant submit to his FIGURE-FOUR LEGLOCK.
Central States Tag Team Champions Heavy Hitters scored a major upset by defeating Great Lakes Tag Team Champions Stars and Stripes when Boxer pinned American Guy via a sledgehammer. Stars and Stripes (manged by Commander Sam) became the second #2 seed to fall in the Sammartino Invitational. The Heavy Hitters, originally listed at 50-1 odds to win the tournament, looked great as they became just the second team from the Preliminary Round to advance to the Second Round.
Stampede Tag Team Champions Durango Sundown quickly disposed of the Sandman and "Precious" Paul Ellering. In an overall easy victory to close out the First Round, Blacklash pinned Sandman via Durango Sundown's tag finisher RUSTLER'S STAMPEDE.

Strong work Stephen... looks like my guys (and Travis' guys) Brazil and Mascaras have a clear path to the Final Four! Thanks Daytondave! Brazil and Mascaras really looked great tonight against Bundy and Baker. They should also defeat the Jacobins (so far the "Cinderella team" in the Sammartino Invitational). But if the Gladiators defeat the Masked Marauders in the Second Round, they should present quite a challenge to Brazil and Mascaras in the Quarter Finals to determine the winner of Bracket B.

The Road Warriors look good! And should do fine in their next match! My Inoki/Rikidozan pic could get ugly! Man they have to go up against Race and Bock! If they can get by these two Inoki and Rikidozan should be fine.

I'm 10-6 in my picks. Not bad, although there were a lot of lopsided matchups in this one since it's an early round. I have to say though, I freakin' called it that the Jacobins would upset Frank Gotch and Antonino Rocca. Thank you.

SAMMARTINO INVITATIONAL Sunday May 28, 2006 Second Round
Bracket A
Road Warriors defeated United States Champion Buddy Rogers (accompanied by Maxine Babe) and Gorgeous George when Hawk pinned Rogers after 2 consecutive DOOMSDAY DEVICES. As a result, Rogers was informed by Major League wrestling (MLW) owner and GM Bruno Sammartino that he would have to defend his United States Championship on Monday against an as of yet unnamed opponent.
European Tag Team Champions the Greek Gods defeated the Regulators by dq. as Orton Jr was disqualified for slamming a steel chair over the head of Actagon
Bracket B
Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras defeated Georgia Tag Team Champions the Jacobins. Brazil and Mascaras controlled almost the entire match and ended the Jacobins's surprising run in the Sammartino Invitational as Brazil pinned the Executioner via a COCO BUTT.
Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions the Gladiators defeated Northeast Tag Team Champions the Masked Marauders. The Masked Marauders continued to look impressive and nearly scored a major upset when the Masked Superstar almost pinned Brute via a SPINNING NECKBREAKER but Massacre made a last second pin save. The Gladiators battled back and ended the match when Massacre pinned the Destroyer, apparently in response to the Road Warriors manner of defeating Rogers and George earlier in the night by two consecutive DOOMSDAY DEVICES, by two consecutive DECAPITATORS.
Bracket C
World Tag Team Champions the Midnight Express easily defeated Australia Tag Team Champions the Demons (COTG's Demons of Hydra) when Stan Lane pinned Demon #2 via a ROCKET LAUNCHER.
World Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Harley Race (managed by Bobby Heenan and accompanied by Ox Baker) defeated Japan Tag Team Champions Rikidozan and Antonio Inoki. In an incredible match that saw the action shift back and forth numerous times, Race finally pinned Inoki with a diving headbutt as Heenan and Baker each held Inoki's legs as the referee made the three count. After the match, the crowd gave Rikidozan and Inoki a standing ovation for their incredible effort that fell just short.
Bracket D
The Valentines scored a major upset by defeating Stampede Tag Team Champions Durango Sundown. Durango Sundown had Greg Valentine in major trouble until he made a defensive tag to Johnny Valentine. Johnny Valentine then leveled Blacklash with a series of ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHERS and then finished him off with a forearm bludgeon to pin Blacklash with his feet on the ropes for extra leverage. Durango Sundown becomes the first #1 seed to be eliminated in the Sammartino Invitational!
Dan Severn and Giant Baba defeated Central State Tag Team Champions the Heavy Hitters. After scoring two wins in the Preliminary and First Rounds, the Heavy Hitters run came to an end as Severn made Boxer submit to WAKIGATAME.

SAMMARTINO INVITATIONAL by Major League Wrestling (MLW) Sunday May 28, 2006 Quarter Finals
Bracket A
Road Warriors defeated Europe Tag Team Champions the Greek Gods. The Greek Gods gave the Road Warriors a massive amount of trouble in this match and at one point it appeared that Actagon had Animal ready to submit to his GRECIAN SLEEPER GRIP until Hawk managed to make the save. The momentum changed hands once Proteus threw Animal out of the ring only to be thrown threw the announcer's table.Animal then threw Proteus back into the ring and, working in tandem with Hawk, gave Proteus a DOOMSDAY DEVICE. Actagon made the pin save. But the Road Warriors immediately gave Proteus another DOOMSDAY DEVICE and this time it was all over. The Road Warriors win Bracket A and advance to tomorrow's Final Four!
Bracket B
Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras defeated Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions the Gladiators. The Gladiators started off strong and actually almost won this match via a DECAPITATOR against Brazil in just 3 moves but Mascaras kicked Massacre in the head to break up the three count. Brute and Massacre remained in total control of the early part of the match with a series of quick tags in their continued assault against Brazil. Brazil finally managed to tag in Mascaras who nearly pinned Massacre via his FLYING BODYPRESS in just 3 moves! Massacre tagged in Brute who almost pinned Mascaras via BRUTE FORCE. But Mascaras managed to tag in Brazil who hit Brute with 2 straight COCO BUTTS for the pinfall victory as Mascaras used his CROSSBODY ATTACK to prevent Massacre from making the pin save. The announcers remark that, with the demise of the Gladiators, all 6 of the remaining tag teams are made up of wrestlers from Major League Wrestling! Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras win Bracket B!
Bracket C
World Tag Team Champions the Midnight Express (managed by Jim Cornette) defeated World Champion Nick Bockwinkel and Harley Race (managed by Bobby Heenan and accompanied by Ox Baker). This was arguably the greatest match so far in the entire Sammartino Invitational! The two sides managed to survive a combine total of 12 PIN attempts before the winner was declared. The Midnight Express started the match off strong against Race and Bockwinkel and Stan Lane almost pinned Bockwinkel three times early in the match via his SUPERKICK, the ROCKET LAUNCHER, and his Midnight lariat. But Race made the save after the last pin attempt and tagged into the match. Bobby Eaton survived 2 swinging neckbreakers from Race that both times almost resulted in a three count and the action then shifted back and forth continuously. At one point, it appeared that Bockwinkel had Eaton ready to submit to his BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER but Cornette threw his tennis racket to Eaton while Lane distracted the referee. Eaton caught the racket and smashed it against Bockwinkel's head and, after throwing the racket back to Cornette, attempted to cover Bockwinkel but Race made the save. A few moves later, the Midnight Express performed their Double Goozle move against Bockwinkel and appeared once again to have won the match but, as the referee got distracted by Cornette smashing his tennis racket over the head of Bobby Heenan, Heenan Family "problem-solver" Ox Baker got into the ring and delivered a vicious clothesline to Eaton who just managed to kick out of the resulting pin attempt by Bockwinkel. The match finally ended when Eaton pinned Bockwinkel due to Cornette interference immediately followed by a stinging right hand. The Midnight Express, Major League Wrestling's World Tag Team Champions, win Bracket C and advance to tomorrow's Semifinals!
After the Midnight Express defeated Bockwinkel and Race, MLW owner and GM Bruno Sammartino came out and said he had more bad news for Bockwinkel. Sammartino said that in addition to tomorrow's Semifinal and Final Rounds of the Sammartino Invitational, there will be 3 MLW Championship matches in which the champions of MLW already eliminated from the tournament would have to defend their titles. Sammartino then announced the following 3 championship matches for tomorrow:
a) United States Tag Team Champions Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff will defend their belts against the team that eliminated them form the Sammartino Invitational - the Regulators (Cowboy Bob Orton Jr and Richard Hutton) in a best 2 out of 3 falls contest.
b) United States Champion Buddy Rogers will defend his title against Frank Gotch.
c) World Champion Nick Bockwinkel will defend his title once again against Antonino Rocca in a no dq no countout match but, unlike at Saturday Night's Main Event, this time Ox Baker will be banned from ringside.
Bracket D
Dan Severn and Giant Baba easily defeated the Valentines as Dan Severn gave Greg Valentine two fireman's carry slams in a row before tagging in Giant Baba who, with one boot to the face, covered Greg Valentine for the three count. Dan Severn and Giant Baba, the #6 seed in their bracket and originally given 50-1 odds to win the entire tournament by the sports books, surprisingly win Bracket D!
Tomorrow's Matches:
Semifinals:
Road Warriors vs Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras
World Tag Team Champions Midnight Express vs Dan Severn and Giant Baba.
The Regulators vs United States Tag Team Champions Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff in a best 2 out of 3 falls title match.
Frank Gotch vs United States Champion Buddy Rogers in a title match.
Antonino Rocca vs World Champion Nick Bockwinkel in a no dq no countout title match with Ox Baker banned from ringside.
Sammartino Invitational Finals:
Winner of Road Warriors vs Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras against the winner of World Tag Team Champions Midnight Express vs Dan Severn and Giant Baba.

Semifinals: Road Warriors vs Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras
World Tag Team Champions Midnight Express vs Dan Severn and Giant Baba.
Going from what I remembered, I thought I picked the Warriors and Express with my 12-1 Brazil and Mascaras (although I said Gladiators should prevail, but liked the odds on Brazil/Mascaras) . I also said, hmmm, Baba and Severn, interesting pairing.
Warriors vs Brazil/Mascaras. Should be a great match. All solid guys. But, while Brazil and Mascaras both have low PIN Ratings, the Warriors solid offense, combined with their tag experience and double team (add 1) and Doomsday Device offset the hard to PIN duo.
Express will dominate Baba and Severn with their double teaming. Plus, neither is a great tag wrestler, thus, one will eventually get worn down by the MX.
Warriors over MX in finals in an always great match!

SAMMARTINO INVITATIONAL by Major League Wrestling (MLW) Monday May 29, 2006 Final Four
Sammartino Invitational Semifinals
Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras defeated the Road Warriors by dq[/color. The Road Warriors were seen talking to their manager Killer Kowalski in the back about something at the start of the show, but once again Kowalski did not appear at ringside. The Road Warriors controlled the entire match to the extent that Brazil and Mascaras did not even get in one offensive move. But Animal threw Brazil out of the ring and through a ringside table and viciously shoved the referee who was trying to order him back into the ring to receive the disqualification. Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras advance to the Finals as many fans in attendance tear up their betting tickets due to the Road Warriors's loss.
Dan Severn and Giant Baba defeated the Midnight Express (managed by Jim Cornette). The Midnight Express controlled most of the match as Eaton and Lane worked over Severn with a series of tag moves such as the Double Goozle and the VEG-O-MATIC. Severn somehow managed to kick out of five pin attempts by the Midnight Express. Severn finally countered a move by Lane and gave him a shoulder throw before tagging in Giant Baba. Baba proceeded to give Lane a Russian legsweep and a boot to the face for a pin attempt but Eaton broke it up before the referee could count to three. As Eaton was headed back to his corner with his back turned to the action, Baba immediately threw Lane into the ropes to perform his NECKBREAKER DROP finisher and the referee counted to three before Cornette could alert Eaton to try another pin save. At 50-1 odds and not even expected to survive the First Round, Dan Severn and Giant Baba have now advanced to the finals of the Sammartino Invitational! More fans are seen ripping up their betting tickets as now all 4 #1 seeds have been eliminated.
The Regulators (Cowboy Bob Orton Jr and Richard Hutton) defeated United States Tag Team Champions Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff (managed by Nikita Breznikov) 2-0 in a best 2 out of 3 falls contest to win the United States Tag Team Championship. Before the match started, Breznikov riled up the crowd by telling them it would give him and his "army" great pleasure to defend the United States Tag Team Championship by defeating two rotten Americans such as Orton Jr and Hutton here on Memorial Day. But the Regulators won the first fall as Hutton made the Iron Sheik submit to his ABDONIMAL STRETCH. The Regulators won the second fall when Orton Jr pinned Volkoff via a piledriver. As the referee awards the United States Tag Team Championship to the Regulators on Memorial Day, the Las Vegas crowd erupts with chants of "USA, USA, USA" as the Iron Sheik , Volkoff, and Breznikov react in a fit of anger to their defeat.
Frank Gotch defeated United States Champion Buddy Rogers (accompanied by Maxine Babe) by countout. This proved to be an awesome match for the United States Championship as the action shifted back and forth with both Gotch and Rogers scoring multiple pin and/or submission attempts against each other. Rogers somehow survived three different attempts by Gotch to win the match via his GOTCH TOEHOLD. Gotch himself refused to submit to Rogers's finisher FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. The match ended when Gotch threw Rogers out of the ring and followed by nailing him with an Iowa backdrop onto the floor before climbing back into the ring. Rogers, however apparently had enough and headed to the back with his United Sates Championship belt and Maxine Babe as the referee proceeded to count him out and award the match to Gotch. However, since a championship can not change hands on a countout, Rogers retains the United States Championship.
World Champion Nick Bockwinkel (manged by Bobby Heenan) defeated Antonino Rocca. In a no dq and no countout match where Heenan Family "problem-solver" Ox Baker was banned from ringside, Rocca started off completely in control and appeared to have Bockwinkel in trouble. Bockwinkel regained control but the action soon spilled out of the ring. As Heenan distracted, Rocca, fellow Heenan Family members King Kong Bundy and Harley Race came down to ringside and ambushed Rocca with a series of steel chair shots and then threw him back into the ring. Bockwinkel then finished Rocca off with his BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. The Heenan Family found and took advantage of a loophole in the match stipulations that banned Baker but not Bundy and Race from ringside in an otherwise no dq match.
Sammartino Invitational Finals
Bobo Brazil and Mil Mascaras defeated Dan Severn and Giant Baba to win the Sammartino Invitational and the $1 million prize as Brazil recorded the pinfall victory over Severn via a COCO BUTT and Mascaras gave Giant Baba a FLYING BODYPRESS to prevent him from making the pin save.
After the match, MLW owner and General Manager Bruno Sammartino appeared in the ring with a briefcase full of money to congratulate Brazil and Mascaras. But as Sammartino was handing off the briefcase to Brazil and Mascaras, the Missing Link suddenly appeared in the ring and intercepted the briefcase and ran back up the ramp where he was met at the top by his manager Kowalski. Kowalski, who already has Yukon Eric's ear has stolen the Sammartino Invitational's $1 million prize money and is laughing viciously as the stunned crowd boos and the show fades to black. See you Friday for MLW: Showtime to see how this controversy will be resolved!

This was indeed a solid show! Even though both my teams were put out! And what an ending! Kowalski is on a tear in your fed Stephen! I am really liking your storytelling and enjoy reading your results. Now I cannot wait to see what happens next...Kowalski is starting to remind me of Jericho's run in WCW where he would take "trophy" from his opponents.
I look forward to your next edition of MLW to see what happens next! Again solid show from top to bottom!

I just realized that the conclusion of the Sammartino Invitational this weekend has brought the number of views for my Major League Wrestling (MLW) thread here to over 1,000! Although I would continue to post my results even if I only had 100 or so views by now, I think this is awesome because I just started Major League Wrestling on the weekend of Wrestlemania 22!
As the summer approaches, I have some exciting and ambitious plans for Major League Wrestling-but some of them may really tax my creative abilities to accomplish. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has posted comments on and/or even just viewed this thread for MLW.
Stephen.
