BIG TIME WRESTLING - From Detroit
Joe Louis Arena
card # 4
RICK RUDE /w/ Sherri Martel beat GEORGE SOUTH** by pin * In his debut The Ravishing One made quick work of the Georgia legend South , pinning him after a Top Rope Sledgehammer . *
CHRIS CANDIDO** /w/ Tammy beat S.D. JONES** by pin * The brash newcomer Candido had some trouble with the crafty veteran Jones but thanks to his beautiful valet Tammy , Chris was able to score the pin fall after a Powerbomb. *3/4
LARRY HENNIG**** lost to OX BAKER*** by pin * This was a smash mouth match with both guys just wailing on one another . The end came after The Axe missed a turnbuckle charge and Ox hit the Heart Punch to score the win. **1/4 ** Hennig had to be stretchered out and early reports indicate he will miss four cards. Many people are calling for a ban to the Heart Punch , saying it's too dangerous of a maneuver and this match will only strengthen their cause.
BRAD ARMSTRONG & BRIAN BLAIR upset TED DIBIASE & STEVE WILLIAMS***** by pin * In a shocker The Lightning Express beat the Mid-South Tag-Team Champions with relative ease in this non title match. Armstrong and Blair cut the ring in half perfectly never allowing Williams to tag out and got the victory after Brad hit a top rope leg drop. *1/2
JIMMY VALIANT beat LARRY SHARPE** /w/ Bam Bam Bigelow by DQ * Valiant looked to have the match well in hand but Sharpe's huge protege Bigelow climbed in the ring and attacked Jimmy causing an immediate disqualification. ** After the match Valiant demanded a rematch , only this time in a tag match. He told Sharpe to bring his tattooed head freak partner and he'd bring a partner of his choosing.
W.W.A. WORLD HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT MATCHES
DON ' THE MAGNIFICENT ' MURACO* beat THE CRUSHER**** by pin * The Magnificent One pretty much steamrolled the hard nosed veteran Crusher and put him away after an Hawaiian Hammer. **
' NATURE BOY ' BUDDY ROGERS crushed ' HACKSAW ' JIM DUGGAN by sub * Wanting to make a statement The Nature Boy wasted little time in forcing , the hated Mid-South rulebreaker and North American Champion , Duggan to tap out to the Figure Four Grapevine. DUD
W.W.A. WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT MATCHES
'MR. EXCITEMENT ' RED BASTIEN*** & BILLY ' RED ' LYONS** beat by pin IVAN KOLOFF**** & NIKOLAI VOLKOFF*** * The Fantastic Flying Redheads continued to roll as they just out classed the much larger Russians. Mr. Excitement sent the crowd into a frenzy when he pinned Volkoff following an Atomic Drop and earned his team a birth in the finals for the tag championships. **1/4 ** After the match an irate Koloff used his chains to bust open his own tag partner and left him lying in the ring in pool of his own blood. *** In the back when questioned about his actions Koloff replied " I am Russian ! We are winners ! Volkoff has let his country down too many times and this was the last time! I will be bringing in My nephew soon and perhaps another and we will restore honor to our country and crush anyone who stands in our way !"
INTERNATIONAL TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS THE FABULOUS KANGAROOS : AL COSTELLO*** & ROY HEFFERNAN**** /w/ Wild Red Berry beat by pin ONE MAN GANG*** & BUTCH REED***** /w/ Slick * OMG and REED were no push overs as they took the Kangaroos to the limit and it took interference from Berry for Heffernan to score the pin on Reed. *** ** After the match Slick was beside himself with anger , demanding a rematch but this time on their home turf of Mid-South Wrestling.
W.W.A. WORLD HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT MATCHES
JOHNNY VALENTINE dominated THE DESTROYER***** by pin * In a very one sided match Valentine was like a machine that wouldn't let up and put the masked marvel away after a second Atomic Skullcrusher. *3/4
THE SHEIK***** ( UNITED STATES CHAMPION ) /w/ Abdullah Farouk beat KILLER KOWALSKI**** This match was nothing short of brutal and sadistic. Kowalski would have surely won this match if not for timely interference by Farouk , which caused the big Canadian to lose focus and to be caught in a Camel Clutch. Kowalski never gave up but eventually passed out due to excruciating pain and the victory was awarded to the Syrian Madman by submission. ***1/4
[glow=yellow,2,300]MAIN EVENT[/glow]
NICK BOCKWINKEL**** ( AWA WORLD HWT. CHAMPION ) MAD DOG*** & BUTCHER** VACHON ( AWA WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS ) /w/ Bobby ' The Brain ' Heenan beat CURT HENNIG***** , BOBO BRAZIL****** & RAY STEVENS * Stevens would not tag in to the chorus of boos from the sold out Joe Louis Arena crowd but Hennig and Brazil held their own despite the three on two odds , four if you count Heenan . Brazil had the match won after a huge Coco Butt on the A.W.A. WORLD CHAMPION Bockwinkel but the save was made by....... STEVENS !!!! Ray then picked up a stunned Brazil and hit a Crippling Piledriver on the Detroit Icon which allowed Bockwinkel to recover and lock on the Sleeper for the win. ***1/2

Great stuff, Kev! I've enjoyed watching the action unfold in your new feds. Can't wait to see more in the Big Time Wrestling/Mid South war. I'm betting that Doc & DiBiase will prove much tougher in their home fed.

With the down time due to my being under the wheather so to speak. I'm pushing the reset button on MCW - Big Time Wrestling and the relaunch with card # 1 and the roster coming soon. Ed Farhat is not running the show, Predator Promotions is. What does this mean for the Sheik? Tune in and find out.

[glow=WHITE,2,300]BIG TIME WRESTLING from DETROIT[/glow] NATIONAL WRESTLING ASSOCIATION Card # 1COBO ARENA NWA WORLD HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE TOURNAMENT1) THE SHEIK ** /w/ Abdullah Farouk beat BAD LEROY BROWN *** by sub * Leroy showed no fear as he went straight at the wild Syrian and came close to pinning the maniac a couple times. The Sheik took control after the action spilled to the outside and never let up. He forced Leroy to submit to the Camel Clutch. **1/4 2) RAY STEVENS pinned THE MISSOURI MAULER *** The Crippler dominated Larry Hamilton and scored the quick pin following a Piledriver. *3) BOBO BRAZIL *** pinned PAMPERO FIRPO ***** Hard hitting, high impact match between two Detroit icons. Bobo scored the win by pinning the wild bull of the Pampas after two straight Coco Butts. **3/44) JOHNNY VALENTINE * pinned MARK LEWIN **** Valentine used an Atomic Skull-crusher to pin Lewin in a pretty one sided affair. 3/4*5) FREDDIE BLASSIE **** pinned DON LEO JONATHON ***** * The big Mormon controlled the match early but was unable to put the crafty Blassie away. After a brawl on the outside Blassie took control of the match and turned it into a bloodbath. Blassie scored the surprise upset after hitting a Southern Neckbreaker. ***1/26) IVAN KOLOFF pinned THE DESTROYER **** The Russian Bear made it look easy by pinning the double tough Destroyer following a Chain Shot to the head followed by a Top Rope Knee Drop. *1/47) WILD BULL CURRY and THUNDERBOLT PATTERSON double DQ! * The ref lost control of this match early and threw the match out when both wrestlers used brass knuckles on each other and fought all the way to the back. DUD8) 'FLYING' FRED CURRY **** beat 'BULLDOG' DON KENT **** by DQ * A great and bloody match that could have gone either way but the ref caught the Bulldog when he hit Flying Fred with his chains and disqualified him. ***9) AWA WORLD HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCHNICK BOCKWINKEL *** ( C ) beat MIL MASCARAS **** by SUB * Tricky Nick used every thing in his arsenal to beat the masked sensation, not to mention some outside help from The Brain. and PREDATOR PROMOTIONS presents
THE NWA ; NATIONAL WRESTLING ASSOCIATION card # 2 Joe Louis Arena QUALIFYING MATCH FOR THE NWA HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT MIL MASCARAS pinned DORY FUNK JR. **** The masked Mexican sensation dominated the tough Texan and pinned him quick and easy after a Flying Body press. *1/4[glow=WHITE,2,300]IWGP HWT. CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH[/glow]ANTONIO INOKI ( C ) pinned ANDRE THE GIANT ****** Unbelievable! Andre was pinned clean on American soil by a Japanese no less. Inoki was like a machine, a relentless machine that never let up. He wore the Giant down with repeated Octopus Holds and scored the pin after an Enzuigiri. **THE DREAM TEAM : GREG 'THE HAMMER' VALENTINE * & BRUTUS BEEFCAKE *beat UNITED STATES TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSTHE ALASKANS : YUKON ERIC ****** & 'ALASKAN' JAY YORK * Not only did the Dream Team advance in the NWA tag tournament, they also won the U.S. TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS. Valentine had challenged the proud Alaskans to put up their titles in this match and they did. Valentine and Beefcake cut the ring in half perfectly on Eric and wore the big man down and Valentine finally forced him to submit to the Figure Four. **3/4THE MASKED SUPERSTAR & THE SUPER DESTROYER ***beat THE FLYING REDHEADS : RED BASTIEN & BILLY 'RED' LYONS * The Redheads came out strong, working over the Super Destroyer but a hot tag and a Spinning Neckbreaker later and the Masked Superstar pinned Bastien ( friggin' snake eyes). *1/2JOHNNY VALENTINE * beat FREDDIE BLASSIE * by DQ * This match went to the outside early and the ref had no choice but to disqualify Blassie for choking Valentine with a microphone cord. DUD** Valentine advances to the final four in the NWA title tournament. THE SHEIK **** /w/ Abdullah Farouk beat 'FLYING' FRED CURRY ****** by SUB * Incredible match between two Big Time Wrestling ICONS. Flying Fred showed no fear of the Syrian madman as he took the fight straight to him. Foreign Objects was the difference as the Sheik wore Fred down and eventually busted him open before making him tap out with the Camel Clutch. **** ** After the bell the Sheik would not release the hold as Farouk kept the ref occupied. Finally Joe Louis Arena erupted as Wild Bull curry charged the ring and started pounding on the Sheik. The Sheik and Farouk made a hasty retreat to the dressing room to a chorus of boos from the sold out crowd. *** The Sheik advances to the final four of the tournament also. STEEL CAGE MATCH!THUNDERBOLT PATTERSON ***** beat WILD BULL CURRY ******* This match was not for the wrestling purest or the faint of heart for that matter. This a brutal match with lots of blood and brass knuckles. Patterson scored the stunning ( what many consider ) upset of the Wild Bull by pinning him after a Spinebuster and hook of the trunks. ****1/2** After Thunderbolt had exited the cage the Sheik charged down the ramp and entered the cage and proceeded to throw a fireball directly in Curry's face. Officials and security rushed to Wild Bull's aid as the Sheik escaped through the crowd. THE FABULOUS KANGAROOS : AL COSTELLO ** & ROY HEFFERNAN /w/ 'Wild' Red Berry beat CHAVO *** & HECTOR **** GUERRERO * Roy pinned Hector after a Boomerang in a one sided affair. *3/4** The Fabulous Kangaroos advance to the final four in the NWA tag-team tournament. MIL MASCARAS *** beat RAY 'THE CRIPPLER' STEVENS * by DQ * A former heel in the Bay area, Stevens is now a beloved face. So he couldn't understand why the fans here in Detroit boo him and cheer for a Mexican. This probably led to Stevens losing control and hitting Mascaras with a steel chair on the outside and getting disqualified by the ref. **** Mil Mascaras advances to the final four. THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE : GORGEOUS GEORGE ***** /w/ Cheri Dupree & 'PLAYBOY' BUDDY ROSE ****beat THE CRUSHER ***** & THE BRUISER ***** In a stunning upset George and Rose shocked the world by beating one of the greatest teams ever in a great match. The Bruiser was going for the win on Rose but didn't see the hot tag Rose made to George, who entered the ring and rolled Bruiser up in a small package and hooked the tights for added leverage and got the three count. ****1/4** George and Rose advance to the final four. BOBO BRAZIL *** beat IVAN KOLOFF ** by DQ * The Russian Bear had control early but eventually big Bobo took over and bounced Koloff off everything. Ivan became so frustrated that he hit Bobo with his chains, but the ref saw this and disqualified Koloff. Sending Bobo to the final four of the tournament. **1/2NEW JAPAN TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCHGIANT BABA **** ( C ) pinned RIKIDOZAN ****** Rikidozan, the Japanese International Hwt. Champion, put his title on the line too, to make it a title versus title match. Rikidozan has been trying to settle this feud or rift that's formed between Baba and Anoki. Words are not working so the Japanese legend feels there's only one course of action and that's beating some sense into them. Awesome match which saw Baba hit the dreaded Neckbreaker Drop for the three count on Rikidozan. ****1/4** Baba in a show of respect bowed to his mentor before leaving the ring with his four title belts.

Looks like a great card, Kevin! Is the Funk-Bockwinkel match for both titles or is it a non-title bout? Non-title, neither promotion could set their egos aside and agree on the match. When the tournament is over look for the the Curry's and the Sheik situation to explode. Also Cory, no comments on card #2 ? Anoki pinned ( your bootleg ) Andre The Giant clean and easily.

A title tournament without Johnny Powers? That's just crazy!
Of course, the crowds for Powers chasing the title, winning it and holding it for several years will be great. That level 3 offense of all POWERLOCK (+8) is pretty tough - and completely realistic.
If you add an Ernie Ladd bootleg, you can do the Powers / Ladd vs. Sheik / Firpo greatest heel turn of all-time. Just a suggestion.
Take care. Hope all is well.
