Personally they are both equal . Its the chicken and the egg debate . But I would say if there was NO COTG , there would be no bootlegs . So its got to be COTG .

Hmmm, some good points in this thread so far ... from both sides. But I am shocked at the vote totals here. This is actually pretty sad. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against bootlegs at all. Its fun to get creative and think up new characters. I have come up with a lot of bootlegs over the years .... even though most of them have been "inspired" by comic books, cartoons, movies, etc. I have collected bootleg sets from a lot of other promoters too. Even though it's not for everyone, I enjoy it. And I will keep doing it. BUT ... I rarely use any of those bootleg cards. When I do find time to play, I want to use the official guys. As much as I enjoy the bootleg scene and the creativity it brings out in all of us, I kind of see it as an insult to Tom to say you prefer bootlegs over the real characters. I know I have never even made a character that could come close to anyone Tom made. Not even Sectarian. Great post.

Official guys all the way. Got nothin against bootlegs and have even used quite a few of them, but Tom's stuff is the reason I'm into this hobby. I like following his stories (albeit loosely) and for me bootlegs just kind of get in the way.

As much as I enjoy creating bootlegs, I almost never use them. I voted COTG.

I'd agree with Bazzy 100% that both are equally good, but without COTG to inspire us (me in particular) I wouldn't even create my own cards.
Great post Swarm!

I chose bootlegs because I only run an all bootleg fed, with the exception of Max Shield, Janus and Vyper making stops. Also the Hardcore Icon Mayhem was there for the longest while. I know he was old, but a few of us got together, came up with stats, had a buddy draw a sweet pick and made him kind of like Terry Funk. He had been around forever, but could still go. I ran GWF up until 2116, but lost all interest and never to gain it back when the Realms sets came out. I still collect the sets, but do not play them. I have my own world of guys that several promoters get as well, but I like doing my own thing, creating my own stars and that's the way it is. I still follow the GWF, but don't play it. Many bootlegs have tons of creativity in them, and if I like them, I will throw them into my fed for a try. It's apples and oranges. It's what you like and you go with it.

I love the Mayhem concept you described there Eric. Is that card available in any of your sets?
Mayhem was always a favorite of mine.

That Mayhem card was awesome. I did the art and it actually looked like Mayhem. Eric never got it released. But the guys who had their hand in the creation were
Eric, Me, Chriss Hoover, Keith Vella and Quinten Lebeau if I remember correctly.
His story was basically he escaped from prison and hid underground where all the outcasts went to find refuge from the harsh Aethran government. While down there he ran across a renegade version of a clensing. A highly dangerous and illegal version. he underwent the process and it managed to hold off his aging process a bit and keep his abilities at about his 2108 level. He then ended up escpaing the planet via cargo ship and tried his hands on the indie circuit.
Thats the short version.

No, he wasn't really for any release, mainly just a few of us that wanted him. There's a few other guys that do have him that went to G'Corn a few years ago, but they're no longer in print. It was a sweet drawing by Brandon...he had MAYHEM tattooed on his stomach, etc. Damn...maybe I should bring him back. ;D
