I don't think this have ever been brought up before. NASCAR to me is mostly 40 or so hicks turning left for 3 hours at a time. So I can't get into it. Do you watch it?

The weird thing is that all the media want to tell you how popular it is becoming and the ratings are great and it's becoming one of the top sports in the world but I know hardly anyone who watches it.
Are all the crackers watching in seclusion?

No, I personally don't watch NASCAR at all. Every year NASCAR has a major race out here at the Las Vegas Speedway. I went in 2003 because I had free tickets and to check it out, but I learned from that experience how boring I think NASCAR is and I have never watched it one time since. I really don't understand why so many people like it so much, NASCAR usually draws over 100,00 people in the stands out here for the Sunday race.

If you had asked me this question before my older son turned about 3 or so, I would've said no. I watched it some growing up with my dad when he had it on (there was always something sports-related on TV on the weekends at our house). But once Nathan really started getting into NASCAR (and I mean really getting into it), seeing his passion got both my wife and me excited about it. Now there's hardly a week goes by that we don't watch. He can tell you what number cars go with which people, who their sponsors are, and what make of car it is. He'll even tell you if they drive different numbers in the Nextel or Busch series. As a father, seeing that excitement come out in your kid is frickin' awesome. If you think it's a bunch of rednecks racing out there anymore, it's not. The last several champs have not come from southern states -- Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon are from California, Tony Stewart from Indiana, Kurt Busch is from Nevada, and Matt Kenseth is from Wisconsin (I believe). Lots of the races are still down there, yes, but plenty are not. In fact, we're going to a race in Dover, Delaware in June with Nathan. Looking forward to it a lot. I see how it's not for everyone. But honestly, once you learn the subtleties of it, it's a lot of fun. And anyone who knows me knows I'm about the furthest from a redneck you can get. NASCAR's way cool in this house. And Neily, Rusty Wallace retired two years ago, man.

oops my bad guess i gotta pick someone.anybody but tony stewart. Denny Hamlin in the #11 FedEx Chevy Monte Carlo. (Just saying it like they always do on TV. He's the next big thing, I promise you. Although he's Tony Stewart's teammate, but don't let that throw you.

I watch/listen every week. I usually mow or farm on Sunday's so on goes the radio and let's go racing. If I had a choice between Nascar and other sports (Excluding College Football)I would choose Nascar. I am sure that I will be viewed as a farming, racing watching farmer...and the reply is YES I AM. A lot of people don't get it. COOL. I like Nascar. By the way Tony Stewart rocks.

I was thinking about this even before I saw those posts, but let me ask you... If someone said to no one in particular, "I'm a NASCAR fan"; and if another person said, "I'm a pro wrestling fan"; which person do you think more people in the general population would turn up their noses at? My money's on the wrestling fans being the bigger pariahs. Me, I'm in double jeopardy.

Racing seems to be for people who like machines, loud noises and a good neck workout while drinkng a lot and eating.
Watching a car (or cars) drive in an ellipse does not = entertainment for me

The Cakejedi is a BIG NASCAR fan There is sooooooooooooooo much more than just cars going around in circles. There are pit strategies, crews working to improve the car all race long, and different driving styles that are more intriguing to me than anything any of the other sports has to offer. In fact, if I could only watch one sport, it would be NASCAR. And yes, it is THE fastest growing sport. Cleveland does not have a track and isn't even close to one, but anytime a driver does an autograph signing you have to get there at least 2 hours before hand to guarantee that you will get an autograph. The lines end up being HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have met Jeff Burton, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, Kurt Bush, Elliot Sadler, and Michael Waltrip. The lines were huge for all these guys. And the best part is that they are all GOOD guys. They take the time to talk with you. Yes, even Tony Stewart is nice in person. He is very quiet and almost shy away from the track. He is the reason I got into NASCAR in the first place, but that is another story.
