BJ Penn's UFC Debut BJ Penn vs. Joey Gilbert This was from UFC 31 on 5/04/2001. At the time 'Baby Jay' was fighting in the 155 lbs division. What Penn has done since then has been amazing. It took him only 4 years to get his BJJ Black Belt and compete at a world class level. His performance in MMA has been equally astounding. Look for him to bounce back hard from his loss to GSP. I pity his next opponent.

Butterbean vs Cabbage tinyurl.com/gje3kThis was from the Rumble on the Rock 8 show this January. Wes Correira takes on toughman boxing legend Eric "Butterbean" Esch.
Like Watching Paint Dry (who remembers when Butterbean put a bullet in the career of 'Bart Gunn' a few years back with a KO at Wrestlemania)What the hell is wrong with cabbages back.. it looks burned up or something. I felt kinda nauseated looking at it. I'm sorry if that's rude... is that just the camera or something?

Rare Gogoplata Submission in MMA tinyurl.com/oec2k'Gogo' means throat in Portuguese. This is a choke from guard position where the attackers shin goes across the opponents throat while the attacker reaches over the back of the top position man's head to grab his own foot and squeeze for pressure. It is a form of a blood choke. Like Watching Paint Dry (this takes incredible flexibility and is rarely successful in an MMA setting)

Like Watching Paint Dry (in recent years the clinch has evolved into one of the most deadly positions in all of MMA...with the devastation of it's use coming largely from the art of Muay Thai)

I thought BJ was going to get it on St. Pierre.... I was hoping we would have seen more from BJ on the ground. His defense from the guard was solid but he really didn't initiate much until the third. He's one of the best in the world and should have played to his strength more. Kimura Demo tinyurl.com/efstz

Shogun`s Omo Plata tinyurl.com/r5h7g'Omo' means shoulder in Portuguese. The Omo Plata is diverse in it's use...standing as a sweep, a submission and a setup for other submissions and sweeps. It's can be pulled off from many positions on the ground and is a staple of submission grappling tournaments. In simplified terms it's a variant of the Kimura/Chicken Wing using only the legs.
Like Watching Paint Dry (the most efficient use of Omo Plata that I've seen in MMA has been from Mino...who often uses it to flow and set up other techniques)
