OKay, I read the vast majority of what's here, and well, I have a fix for it that some of you will think is kinda cool, some will think is kinda fun, and some will just say it's because I just worked 11 nights in a row...
A couple things I will touch on though:
LWPD saying the Deuce is imploding...Last I saw was SonofTHREAD implode, and oddly I had nothing to do with it...The Deuce looks fine from where I stand...
Joe and someone else bringing up Pittbull...I know you didn't say anything nasty, but I didn't like the tone so much...Bear in mind, he is my brother...He's not here anymore, but I still am...If anyone chooses to speak ill of him from here on (meaning not including what Joe said), think of it as after the Montreal Screwjob: Bret (Pittbull) has gone to another company, and Owen (me) is standing in the room while you say it...I, who virtually everyone I've had an issue with has called a valued member of this community will risk a permanent ban in his defense...I'm not offended right now, I'm just letting everyone know where I stand before it comes up...As Swarm and Payback know, I would expect the same of each of you to defend your family should I decide to step out of line (which I don't intend to)...
Now, as to the topic at hand, I mentioned a bit ago that I just finished my 11th straight shift, and I have somewhere between 7 and 15 more to go...I really have not a lot to offer on the subject because I haven't been here for two weeks...I imagine PureHatred won't have a clue what's going on when he returns...So I look at it this way:
It is what it is...
The Filsinger Games Community is currently represented by two message boards...Everyone on both boards, even those who are exclusive to one, knows everyone on both boards...If by being exclusive to one they can avoid certain aspects of the other that they don't like, where's the big deal..? Would you rather the Deuce close and all the Deuce Exclusives come back..? Cause that'll go over well, I guarantee...That was a Whedonism by the way...
Eliath, if I missed you, Welcome to the boards...
Aside from that I don't think I have much else to say on the matter...I'll try to get my Ben Kenobi fix ("You can't win, but there Are alternatives to fighting.") up for you in the Board Suggestions tomorrow morning...Right now, I need sleep....
Seeyas...

maybe I don't have a constructed plan to fix the boards. But by letting this be known that problems are around maybe as a group we can fix it. Remember I can not do it alone. I think my initial post was picked apart a little too dramatically. Basically I wanted to get the word out and see what we could all do to help remedy the situation because outright fixing it will not happen.

Holland, So lets construct a plan together. Nobody is asking or expecting you alone to fix things. You cannot come on any message board in any community and post what you did and expect to remove yourself from the result by benching yourself. Okay, so you travelled with the ball and coach has yelled at you for it...the game is still going on and you are still in it..your timeout is over and its time to get back in there. You were looking to "see what we could all do" that "we" includes you. Besides, if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. And you don't sound to me like you want to be part of the problem.

Dukedave, responding to what you said earlier, when you first posted here you and I got into a little thing, and it got a little heated...and now I think you're a good guy and a good poster. So see...sometimes these things do have a happy ending.
I personally don't think there's a problem with the two boards. If it helps avoid some of the bickering and in fighting I'm all for it. I think Tom, Mark etc having to copy and paste posts from one board to the other is a small price to pay for a little more peace of mind. And as LWPD stated earlier, things have been a bit nicer around these parts.

Well, let me begin by saying that I re-began playing Champions of the Galaxy about 2 months ago when I happened upon the Filsinger Games website and by chance this message board. I immedately met some strong opinioned people that, in my opinion, were being a bit overbearing in their appraoch on the boards (you can read that as "Swarm" and "Payback" I have no issue with them or anyone else knowing.) At one point I decided to share my Yoda bootleg and really got ripped up about it for various reasons, some valid, some not in my opinion. However, I did not go off and start another message board because of it. I have an equally overbearing opinon of things just like Swarm and Payback and everyone else on this board...sometimes I voice it, sometimes it is just better to keep my opinion to myself. I have visited the Deuce and read some of the posts there, I can tell you that there is definately a different feeling on those boards than there is here...more welcoming and more community like...but I have yet to ask for an account there. Why? This site, in my opinion, IS the community. From what I have read from posts on this board, and I know absolutely nothing about it, somebody got mad at presumably Swarm, and went off to start their own message board to get away from him. If I am wrong, I apologize. Seriously though, THAT is where the high school drama began. Sometimes I don't like how Swarm says some things to people, but you know what, that is Swarm and that's STRONG. People will always have differing opinions and approaches, this is an online community and truthfully, we are all family in that we all play the same game...Why don't you Holland be the bigger man and come back to this board and close the Deuce down..YOU reunite the community that you so obviously want to heal. Do not come on this board and post something like you did and NOT expect anyone to take it personal or become offended by it..it offends me and I am only a new player with a strong opinion. I will only carry on my "Dad" mantle for one more little piece of insight: Holland, you are the one that fractured the community, no matter the circumstances involved, it is only you who can heal it. Be a man and step up to that fact. Eliath Strong.

Wow. Eliath throwing down the guantlet. Good job bro. The thing is, I think things have actually been a little better since the split. There isn't nearly as much drama going on. There are people that are much happier over there, and there are people here that are happier to not have those folks around. I have friends on both boards so I post on both. But there are some people that left these boards that are now complaining about the other boards, and those are the people that I think have caused all the problems. Some people just always want to play the "victim" role and feel sorry for themselves. And they expect everyone else to feel sorry for them, and when no one takes the bait they want to cause a scene. I think this is the reason that the sonofthread chatroom is now closed. It was nice having that community chat about COTGonline the other night, because for one night we were all back to being a civil community again. The focus was back on the game, like it should be. And that my friends is the moral of this story. Not sure if I made any valid points, but that's pretty much all I have to say about the matter. strong.

The Deuce made a place for people who were leaving the game forever to come and stay and kept them around. I would like this community to heal. As for Tom I just think that I went off on my own thoughts more there than what should have been posted and I PM'ed Tom letting him know that so I hope he got it and we are cool. weak.

The second half of my suggestion for Holland is if he has no interest in helping mend the community, why not just leave this board entirely. He created his own board, and has shown in recent posts he has no use for the moderators or the members who are exclusive to this board, so why keep coming around? The ball is in your court, Holland. Do with it what you will. strong.

Man, have their been some strong posts in this thread. If anyone thinks that "the state of Filsinger Games has already been decided" need only look at this thread to see how things really stand. You have viewpoints from older games and newbies, and in all cases, the love for the game is very evident. Tom has created something that will never die, and the loyalty of the majority of game fans will outlast those that come and go. STRONG.

What a deep thread. Upon further review, I don't think Holland fractured the community. When you have as many people on a message board as this one does (300 + people) not all of us are gonna get along. I feel the Deuce is a little silly for the same reasons that Eliath expressed but I think the community was already fractured. Actually fractured isn't the right word. I'm not sure there's a good word for it. People just didn't see eye to eye, that's all really. There's no way to "mend the fracture." Certain people don't like other certain people and that will probably never change. I still don't think Kris, Tom, and Mark should have to post on 2 boards. This is the original and if you want to know what's going on, it should be done here. If you still wanna have your own board for other things, fine. But we shouldn't be making the writers of the game editions cater to that small minority of people who are exclusive to the Deuce. I've always looked at this board as the official one. I agree with Payback. strong.

First I'll say I honestly believe Holland had benign intentions when he started the junior board...just as I'm sure he sincerely had the best of intentions when he started and posted this thread. There's no need to kick him while he's down and his board is imploding. With that said I'll offer my perspective on 'The State of 'This' COTG Message Board'. The reality is...whether it was purposely intended or not...the board split has greatly _BENEFITED_ the quality of output on _THIS_ board. Unlike in time's past...I seldom see 'meta-issue' threads creeping onto the forums. The people who post here do so because they 'want' to be here, they want to discuss COTG and related topics (as opposed to discussing other posters and 'board issues') and they generally understand and enjoy the environment for what it is. I no longer see 'moderators' abusing their authority with blatant trolling, selective editing of posts and/or the making of public threats to 'suspend/ban' people they don't like/agree with. This is largely because those who were guilty of doing so in the past are 'no longer here'. The moderator position of GWFFanTrav (who was a very productive contributor to this board and whom I would personally welcome back as a poster...but never in the position of being a Mod) hasn't been filled and 'there's no need' to fill it...the board is more self sufficient and self-policing than ever before. I also no longer see posters chronically whining about abstractions such as 'The COTG Community' or making public efforts to control 'how people behave' according to their own ideals. The creation of a separate board and provision of an outlet such as a 'chat room' for those who want to invest portions of their lives dialoguing on such issues...was a TREMENDOUS benefit for _THIS_ board as it removed a great deal of this type of wasteful negative energy and placed it 'somewhere else'. What DO I see on this board? I see many people contributing and enjoying themselves in line with what this is...a fun hobby and a nice short term distraction to our higher priority 'real lives'. I see Promoter Madness (thanks largely to Swarm) amping up players old and new through an exciting new set concept. I see COTG Online (largely thanks to BDS) creating new game play opportunities that were unthinkable when I first brought this game in '87. I see a vast history of House Rules for all players to learn from and gain inspiration, I see a vast and active archive of promoter run Fed results, I see a streaming archive of literally hundreds of hours of some of the greatest pro wres matches of all time, I see a growing MMA Resource archive...which will probably be the genre of interest most 'future' players will be coming from, I see a place where newer players who ask questions readily find helpful answers from other more experienced players. In short I see a happy, healthy and productive environment toward Filsinger Games and the common interest topics surrounding and influenced by it. This board has never been better. For your part in helping to make that happen...I thank you Holland!
LWPD (it's important to respect the choices of those who...for whatever reason...chose to 'cyber-suicide' their accounts and move on from here...should any of them chose to re-register and contribute productively in the future _WITHOUT_ introducing 'meta-issues' I'm sure they'd be afforded a clean slate by most everyone and a fresh chance to prove themselves and start over)I agree, lets not kick Holland while he's down and his board implodes. strong.
