Congratulations to Trevor Hoffman for getting his 500th career save earlier ths week!
Today after I wake up I am going to watch the Mariners-Padres game, it's being shown here in Las Vegas. It should be a good game as Felix Hernandez is starting for Seattle (but he hasn't looked as good since returning from his injury) and Chris Young starts for San Diego.

Congratulations to the Padres on gettnig swept by the g-d Mariners! ARGH. I watched the entire game on TV today and the Mariners surprisingly managed to win today without even getting one extra base hit. I really thought when the Padres went up 3-1 with Chris Young (who entered the game with the best home ERA in all of baseball) still on the mound that the Padres would get the win. Kouzmanoff's error in the top of the 9th turned out to be the difference in the game. I am really surprised that the Mariners are 7 games above .500 based on who is in their starting rotation. But congratulations to J.J. Putz who is now 18 for 18 in save situations and saved all 3 of the games this weekend. The good news for the Padres is that the Dodgers lost their series to Toronto this weekend. I really like the Padres pitching staff and I think they'll continue to stay in contention. But I think the Padres could use at least one extra bat in their offense before the trade deadline passes.

Hey Knapik,
In case you didn't see it yet, check out my San Diego thread in the General Discussion forum. Thanks.

Your boys are on the list after this weekend, Knapik. Young and Peavy are punks, and I sincerely hope that one of them gets to stand in the box to face Z next year. (I actually hope they get to stand in the box against Z in the playoffs, but I'm trying to be realistic here.)

Your boys are on the list after this weekend, Knapik. Quit stealing my gimmic. And tell D. Lee to quit being such a baby.

Strong! And tell D. Lee to quit being such a baby. He threw at his head, slung some profanity at him, and then threatened to do it again. He deserved to get charged, period. You want to hit someone to send a message, fine, but hit them in the ribs or the hip - don't throw at their head.

I would have told him to get the F to first base, too. And then said, "While you're at it tell your LF to quit being such a jerk off. He's gonna get someone hurt.

You don't throw a baseball at someone's head. Like I said, you want to hit him, fine, but do it right. There's no room for headhunting in baseball.

I agree.. too many potentially great careers were cut short by bean balls.. Tony Conigliaro and Dickie Thon spring to mind.

It's funny how there's so much talk about pitchers in the American League not having to hit/get hit, but pitchers really never got hit, did they? We hear about Bob Gibson and Don Drysdale in the 60's hitting batters, but i never heard of them getting hit.

Your boys are on the list after this weekend, Knapik. Young and Peavy are the two best pitchers in the NL. Fixed that for ya!

First off, you're on crack. Secondly, any metrics that might have shown them as being good will suffer greatly with Barrett calling the games. ;D

I got to see the San Diego Padres this week on Wednesday night play the Baltimore Orioles which was cool because I live in Las Vegas and don't get to see Major League Baseball games live that often anymore. But the Padres lost 7-1 to the Orioles with the Padres getting their only score on a single shot by Russel Branyan that just barely made it to the right of the foul pole to hit the wherehouse in left field. Other than that, the crowd only really got excited right before the bottom of the 9th when a fan from the outfield ran onto the field and slid into Second Base before getting tackled by two security gurads and being carried off.
I have been to a total of 9 Major League Ballparks now and PETCO Park IMO ranks right up there among the top. If you ever go, get a Diego Dog. They're these big hot dogs served on special buns and they come with hot mustard, cabbage, and pico de gallo. Good stuff. Good stuff.
