When I heard Linkin Park had a new album coming out, I picked it up as soon as I could. I'm a huge fan of their previous albums, and I couldn't wait for this one.
After listening to it, I think I could have waited a little longer.
What kind of despressants were these guys on? The first few songs are fine, but the rest sound like lame ***, woe-is-me ballads! And they're aweful ballads at that. As I said, the first few songs was vintage-LP, but the rest are just slow and depressing. Now I don't mind a ballad or two, but when a nu-metal band kicks out an album with 10 whining put-you-to-sleep numbers, you realy start to wonder what meds they were on.
Now some people might like the change. I've seen reviews that say LP is maturing. Well, if you want an album where they make Michael W. Smith sound like a headbanger, then pick it up. But if you prefer the hard rock of their old stuff, save you money.
I think I'm going to try and sell this back (along with Megadeth's new one...I don't even want to comment on it) and pick up Three Days Grace, which I should have in the first place.
I hope this helps any LP fans out there who might have been interested in this.
Take care,
Jay

The wife picked this up on Tuesday but hasn't taken it out of her car's CD player yet so I haven't heard anything but the single at this point. I'm usually very forgiving in my musical tastes, so I'm sure I wont mind the changes they've made.
Although if you're complaining about whiny depressing ballads on an LP album, then I wonder if you ever listened to their first two.

I love the first 2. I don't mind an occassional ballad but 90% of this album is those songs. If that's what you like, great, but I prefer their faster, heavier songs.

Picked it up Tuesday as well and while it's not a horrible album, it is a lot less "rock" than previous LP stuff. The first half is pretty good but the second half...well, I can do a lot of skipping on those songs. Ah well, also picked up 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn' by Pink Floyd so wasn't a completely terrible music day.

Most reviews for this (and even interviews with the band) say this album is far more 'emo' and far less 'rap/rock' than the 1st too. I'd call the single medicore...I'm gonna wait until a hear more of the album before deciding. The new Rush album, OTOH, "Snakes and Arrows" is really good

Finally got to listen to this over the weekend, and I think it's a solid album. I see where others might not like it, though, especially given the stylistic departure.
"Hands Held High" is an awesome, awesome track.

I've heard people comparing LP to U2 based on this album...
Haven't heard it yet, but I'm certainly intrigued by the comparison.
Thoughts?
