Has anyone here seen Turistas?
It was in the New Releases section for the DVDs and I rented it at the store down the street for a couple of dollars. I will probably watch it tomorrow.
One of my friends told me it was somewhat similar but better and less gory than Hostel (but that doesn't tell me anything because I never saw Hostel).

I watched Turistas last night. I guess it was worth the $2.49 or whatever I paid to rent it, but I didn't think it was very good for a horror movie because there was hardly any genuine suspense. And to me, just like a comedy that is not funny, a horror movie without much suspense makes for a not very good movie.
Most of the suspense is supposed to come after they arrive at the house deep in the Brazilian jungle (and it takes over half the movie to get there). But after that it turns into more of an action movie than the horror movie it is supposed to be as they're exchanging gunfire and fighting with machetes against their captors before trying to flee through the underwater caves where yet other battles occur. Even the scene where someone gets their organs removed is more gross than suspenseful.
Bottom Line: If you're looking for a good recent horror movie, I don't recommend Turistas.
