I just saw that The Departed tonight won several Oscars including Best Picture. And, with The Departed, Martin Scorsese finally won an Oscar for Best Director.

I thought The Departed was a very solid movie. After seeing It I really have no complaints. It ended exactly how it should of. One question though, was some of the blood done via CGI?! I am refering to the "headshots" at the end of the movie. It definitely looked that way.
After seeing it I am tempted to try and pick up the trilogy it was based on, Infernal Affairs.

I watched the Departed and thought it was solid. Goodfellas it was not though. I just hope they don't take a movie that is very well done and well acted and turn it into a sequel turning out crap fest. Not that Martin could or would do that but if he drops from the Directors chair then maybe. I am just concerned due to the rumormill of Departed 2 coming soon to a theatre near you. The script is written I think or is being written at least.

The script is written I think or is being written at least. From what I hear The Departed was based off the Infernal Affairs trilogy. So I am assuming that there is some possible groundwork for a decent sequal. I've never seen any of the Infernal affairs movies, so I couldn't tell you if they took the plot from the entire trilogy and condensed it down into one movie or not. If they didn't, and based the Departed on only one of the Infernal Affairs movies, then I'd say there are more stories to be told and a sequal might work.

The movie had some good acting but didn't do it for me.

I just saw the Departed last weekend. It was a good movie, but I think I still like Infernal Affairs a little bit more (although I'm biased).
There was a scene in the HK version where the cops brought the triad boss in after a failed raid. So you had all of the black-clad triad members staring across the room at Anthony Wong and the rest of the police department. The two leaders acknowledged that they both had moles, and they had a challenge to see who could discover the other side's mole first. I also thought that Steven Leung was a much more sympathetic triad disciple than Leonardo DiCaprio was, but that's also partly due to the fact that HK cinema romanticizes the role of a triad hand a lot more than American cinema portrays gangsters.
Mark Wahlberg was my favorite character in the movie. But then he is a true-breed townie, as he is from Dorchester, MA (which is the town next to Southie). Damon is a Bostonian as well.
Officer Queenan: fuck you. Wahlberg: I'm tired from fucking your wife. Officer Queenan: How's your mother? Wahlberg: Tired from fucking my father. Officer Queenan: ... Wahlberg: Good.
Quality stuff. Wahlberg should only play tough Bostonian cops/gangsters from now on. It's a role he was born to play.

Infernal Affairs was great. I hear Infernal Affairs II kinda sucked, but Infernal Affairs III picked things right back up. I own all three, but they're all in Mandarin, and I don't really like watching Hong Kong films dubbed into a different dialect.
