Mastadon's "Blood Mountain" sort of destroyed everything this year. Other cool albums: TV On the Radio "Return to Cookie Mountain" Clipse "Hell Hath No Fury" (best hip hop album IMO) The Thermals "The Body, The Blood, The Machine" (Rock!) Converge "No Heroes" (Brutal without trying hard to be. BRUTAL.) Keane "Under the Iron Sea" Lady Sovereign "Vertically Challenged" mewithoutYou "Brother, Sister" Samiam "Whatever's Got You Down" Tokyo Police Club :A Lesson in Crime" (great EP, great new band) I see we have another Converge fan on here. 20,000 cool points for Knapik

My eclectic list is as follows:
10,000 Days - Tool - Just a wonderful album that gets better everytime I listen to it. I saw them in September and this album is amazing live, especially the Pot.
Pearl Jam - Pearl Jam - A good rock album in a time when not many good rock albums come out. Life Wasted, World Wide Suicide, and Unemployable are great songs.
Love - The Beatles - If you are a Beatles fan this album is fun. I am continually guessing at what songs are put together where and in what fashion. It's just fun to listen to.

No wonder I feel out of place here. Don't know any of these people, except Jay-Z and Snoop.

It depends on what you mean by broaden your horizons. In my opinion there are plenty of good rock bands out there but not many good new albums. Most rock bands lately seem to have one to three good singles and that's it. Just my opinion though.

What I meant was to find good stuff you need to dig deeper. Lots of websites out there to push you in the right direction. I agree that the stuff played on the radio is mostly trash, which is why I have to look elsewhere for great albums.

RHCP, Wolfmother, Akon, & Dierks Bentley all had cool stuff in '06.
I hate listening to the radio these days. It's the same 15 songs over and over again, with commericals every 5 minutes. I'm thinking about getting Sirius pretty soon.

I moved up the Orphans album, I actually meant to put Ghostface Killah's Fishscale at #7. But T.I.'s album is pretty great. DJ Troomp's beats are pretty amazing. "What You Know About That" is really a great single. Overall it's a perfect mixture of what a rap album should be.
