One of my all-time favorite movies (and yours, too - admit it!) is getting a Special Collector's Edition re-release. Check it out: www.transformersthemoviedvd.com/November can't come soon enough.

Very cool. But i'm even more excited that Dreamworks has reportedly just started filming the live action Transformers movie due out for release in '07.

Very pumped about both. Transformers were the only anime I've ever liked (and that is the 80s version). I hope they base this movie more along the lines of the 80s line.

Not one of my all-time favorites, but I did love it quite a bit. Way more than I did the regular animated series. The fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron was brutal awesome.

Something about the initial discussion between Unicron and Megatron made it one of my all time favorite movie moments.
The live action movie will have more in common with the eighties shows than the more recent offerings. Ford is a huge contributor to the film, so there will be a clearly western influence as well.
Transformers the Movie ranks alongside Akira, Fire and Ice, Heavy Metal and Batman: Mask of the Phantasm as one of the best animated movies ever made.

I hope you are right about the western influence. I remember seeing the movie and was shocked how violent it was, after a relatively tame TV show. Seeing two favs like Optimus and Megatron being killed off...shocking. Does anyone know of a website of all of the characters that died during the battle?? I was always curious abou that. Maybe if now they could reissue the original line...I would love to collect those again....

I know that Ironhide died, he was my favorite up to that point (don't ask why) and him getting blown away traumatized the heck out of me. Got this from IMDB: "The movie kills off many of the original characters: Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Brawn, Wheeljack, Windcharger, Megatron, Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Shrapnel, Kickback and Bombshell are all casualties, and it is learned in the third season that Huffer also died at some point off-camera during the movie." Also this which is interesting: "The movie was being produced by the same company, and at the same time, as _G.I. Joe: The Movie (1987 video)_ . It had been agreed that both movies would suffer the loss of the lead heroes, Optimus Prime and Duke. Production had begun on G.I. Joe first, and was thus expected to be released first. During the production of the two films, G.I. Joe Got held up while Transformers finished production. Release dates were changed and Transformers got a theatrical release in 1986. Optimus Prime's death sparked some controversy and caused the writers to change Duke's death to a coma. G.I. Joe never got to the theaters, and was released to video instead. Had G.I. Joe been released first, Optimus Prime might have survived the movie." Another thing the website says is this was both Orson Welles and Scatman Caruther's final film. www.imdb.com/title/tt0092106/trivia
