tv.yahoo.com/news/ap/20060123/113808108000.htmlNow, I'm not really a fan, but I'll watch with my wife before work occasionally. Now if you saw the guy they're about, he was simply a freak starving for attention that he's probably lacking at home. He is also looking for a reaction and when he gets it, he gets P.O.ed. This is a sore subject, and it can hurt some, but just because your criticized or get turned down or get fired doesn't mean the person is a homophobe, racist or whatever generic term you can throw. Now, my gripe is why is it that GLAAD gets a rise out of this, but someone like Sean Hayes on Will & Grace gets laughs out of it every week playing the same thing?!?! I just want consistently

Well, I watched that show and I didn't think there was anything homophobic about it.
I thought Cowell's comments to the one guy when he said, "Why don't you become a girl." was way over the line. But the one where they didn't know if it was a guy or a girl was just a legitimte question. They really didn't know if that person was a guy or a girl. The guy was wearing high heeled boots, a woman's shirt, pants, and belt (as my sister noticed) and then he sings "Queen of the NIght" by Whitney Houston. C'mon, there's someone looking for attention.
Although I don't see how the Jack character from W&G is the "same" as this individual. That character is the over-the-top, no-doubt-about-it gay guy.

Very off topic but on the Chicago Idol auditions I saw someone on there who I had worked with for 2 years in high school. It was hysterical.

Haven't several of the male contestants on previous seasons been gay men? I think this is alot of clap trap about nothing.

Of course it is offspring. Like some black contestants saying it's racists when they've had 2 black winners...
You can only call the race/sexiest/gay bluff for so long...

Some people just suck at singing and can't get over it. They have no ear for music so of course they think they sound great. If they "are" great and there is no other reason for them to not be on the show then Idol must be racist/sexist whatever.

I watched American Idol and while the judges comments could certainly be rude (but if they weren't would people watch the audition shows?) but they were not homophobic, I certainly wasn't offended by anything they said and I too could not tell if that contestant was a man or a woman, but is was definetly someone who is attention starved.
GLAAD gets on my nerves, while their basic organizational premise is fine, they tend to be a little over sensitive some of the time, and overreact (as in this instance)

I just don't understand how these attention-craving idiots can go on American Idol and NOT expect to get dogged by Simon!

ive got nothing against gay people ( a couple of my friends are gay). But it silly how ,if you say anything bad about, or to them, then you're homophobic! Yet , they go around and do stuff like try and pick up straight people , and say " it's only a joke". It seems to be only a "bad thing" when it suits them.

^^^ I think that holds true in lots of cases soug. A very small, but very vocal, group of people feel the need to cry and complain when things don't go their way. Instead of looking at the real reasons behind it, they will cry racism, sexism, homophobia, or what have you.
The sad part is that this makes it harder for people who really are being discriminated against to come forward. They don't want to be lumped in with these people and labled a fake.
-----------
Bri, my best guess is that most of the people who go to the auditions and are attrocious know how bad they are. They figure they can be the next William Hung and earn some tv time, and maybe a payday or two.
The funny part is that I had a friend who went in for the idol auditions in New York. I think it was for season 3. The people who go are herded past a large group of judges who listen to them. A very small portion of those who show up actually sing for Simon Paula and Randy. That means those first judges are looking for 2 kinds of people. Those who can sing...and those who are willing to make a fool of themselves of tv.

Yeah, offspring you're right on both accounts. This racism, sexist, homophobe card is wayyyy played out. I guarantee 99% of those cries are false.
You're right about AI also. I've heard several people audition that they have to go through 2 rounds of judges before even seeing Simon, Paula and Randy. So it goes to show you, they're looking for either those who are going to make it, those who are teetering and those who're just plain bad.
