You know, I'll probably never get over the burnt crimson (as opposed to the bright red) and the small emblem on the chest, but this kid, Routh is starting to look a lot like Superman. www.cinematical.com/media/2005/12/supermanscan.jpgThe more I read about the movie and Bryan Singer's plans, the more excited I get about next June. It'll be interesting to see which franchise benefits most from the recent directorial changes. X3 certainly looks good, but Superman is taking on more of an epic feel. This summer is shaping up to be a great one for superhero films, and these two are the marquee attraction. Superman has the potential to set Spiderman-like records, but X3 is winning every "must see" poll out there (see superherohype.com and other internet and print media). The question is which one rules the box office?

Here is my opinion...The "new" Superman looks just like the one from the 80's movie. I think the reason some comic adaptations do well in the box office is because they look current. An example, I don't think Wolverine would look right if he showed up in that God aweful yellow suit or if Batman was in his bright blue spandex. Even the hair do on this "new" Superman screams late 50's. Now, I know looks are not everything, but most people know the big Superman stories, so I don't think the story is going to get people in the theatres as much as the character himself. And to be honest, this look will not get me into the threatres.

Your probably right on the spandex issue Juston, hence the reference in X-Men 1.
Personally, I'm more of a Marvel guy, so I'm up for X-Men, but will see both on opening day if possible (like I have for 90% of superhero movies). I love the possibility of X-Men just to see all of the characters and what they do.
I also read on Superherohype that Vinnie Jones, who plays Juggernaut, has stated he has a contract to do 2 more X-Men movies. I'd like to see a 6 part series of X-Men to do it justice
But what I worry with Superman movies, like the 1st series, is his horrible rogue's gallary. It showed after the 2nd one.
Maybe they can surprise us and have Bizzaro, Metallo, any one instead of Nuclear Man or RIchard Pryor.

Darksied has been mentioned several times already. The thought of finally seeing the lord of Apokolypse on the big screen has me on the verge of a religious experience.
We will also see a new and improved General Zod (think Jim Lee's recently drawn armored megalomaniacal version) in the second film.

I'd love to see Darksied. Kinda like waiting for Apocalypse in X-Men though...they should be planting seeds for him.
Just thinking, the second, I can go for Zod. I'm sure that's where they'll go. I just hope they don't rehash the Zod, Non, etc. storyline. Make it fresh
Still, hope to see Bizzaro, Metallo and the rest of what they can give us...

I am much more excited about X-Men 3 than Superman. Routh looks like Superman but he doesn't have the build. He looks only slightly more in shape than Reeves did.

Just curious, speaking of X-Men: Does anyone think they blew an awesome chance at the end of X-Men 2 to introduce the Sentinals? After the secret lab was destroyed by the water, they could have showed Mastermold or a Sentinal that would have been Stryker's ace in the hold to kill the mutants?
It would have strayed slightly from the comics, but could have planted the seeds down the road...

Personally, X3 frightens me...
And I've seen the kid playing Superman in action before..unless he's improved DRAMATICALLY he's going to be awful.
He was bad by daytime soap standards.

Why does X-Men scare you Tommy? The only thing that looks that bad is Juggernaut's weird costume that looks obviously fake.
I've only seen the 1st trailer, so I hate to pass any judgement yet.
What should scare you is the casting of Howard as Gwen Stacy in Spider Man 3. That's scary....
I've heard about the guy's acting ability in Supes, but I'll give him a chance. Reeve was an unknown back in 77, so you gotta give him a chance. Plus, it's more about the story and what they do instead of him being an overrated Golden Globe actor..

Christopher Reeves wasn't exactly a Best ACtor candidate walking onto the set, but he made me believe -then and now - that he was Superman. If this kid can come close to doing that, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I'm worried, Tommy, that you might be right about X3. This is why I haven't exactly gone off the deep end about this movie. Something doesn't seem quite right. Perhaps it's the way all of the actors are refering to the " . . . cool comic book moves and references in the movie" in their interviews. It makes me think they're either trying to lure hardcore X-Men comic fans to the movie as a means of building a "security" audience (for when the normal audience is put off by the film, or they are trying to cover up the fact that there's not much else in the movie to get excited about. Of course I could be wrong, but I am becoming a little put off with how Hugh Jackman and others keep grasping at the comic tie-in instead of anything of substance.

X-3 doesn't excite me for one reason...........No Bryan Singer. That killed it for me.
But I will still stay away from all of the trailers for either movie for fear that the trailer will show the entire movie.

For any X3 fans who think the Juggernaut looks kinda goofy...I present the man who should be Juggeranut (although he may need a razor!) (P.S. Sounds like Hackenschmidt) www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-boxer27jan27,0,4797801.story?coll=la-home-headlines

Man, how dumb. I posted the Omega Red in the wrong thread! I meant to post it in the X-3, Supes thread! Duhhhhh...my bad. I accidently posted it in the Wal-Mart thread
But did anyone see that Omega Red is supposed to be in X-3? Man, this movie is going to be loaded with mutants!

Instead of starting a whole new thread (which I have been guilty of quite often, according to some) I thought I would pull this one from the depths and point out a few things.
*Apparently (according to IGN.com) there's a thirty second spot just after the credits roll for X-Men 3 that can't be missed. Alledgedly, it's pretty significant. I'm already psyched for the movie (because it appears to be an all-out war between good and evil -complete with sentinals - and Wolverine gets to cut loose on a bad GUY (the taboo around beating up women forced the studio to tone down Logan's ferocity against Deathstrike and Mystique). Sounds like the end will actually be sort of a new beginning.
*While I'm still pretty concerned about the movie, the Superman Returns game may well end up in the game of the year running by year's end. I think the movie may be relying a bit too much on effects, and I'm not sure if it's Routh or the suit, but something's not quite so Super about the man. Not the case in the game. What I've been able to see reveals a pretty accurate (as in recent DC Comics continuum accurate) take on the man of steel that elevates him well past Hulk, Thor, Martian Manhunter and Captain Marvel in terms of raw power and ability.

Routh looks too skinny to be Superman but the movie does look like it will be pretty sweet. It is kind of putting a twist on the Superman story.
I am going to see X3 at 12 am Friday. I am expecting good things. I am hoping the series continues because I like it. I did wish that the sentinels were in X2, it would have been a perfect fit. I am not sure that I want Apocolypse in the X-Men series. He might be too hard to portray in a movie. There are also Wolverine and Magneto one shot movies planned that sound interesting. Don't forget Ghost Rider at the end of the summer. I am looking forward to that one as well. I don't mind the casting of Cage as GR like some do. He has already played this role a hundred times. I think it will be pretty dang good.

Yep...I'm heading to the midnight showing as well. Can't wait...looks like it'll be awesome.
Let's don't end with three though...there are at least six movies!!!
I liked the SFX for Supes during the commercial. My wife, who has went to most of the super hero movies with me (and she's actually liked most), said Supes looked good and Spacey was a great choice for Lex.

IF I get this job tomorrow/today, I'll probably talk to the wife about going to see X3. 'Cause, despite my misgivings about the film and despite my dropping of the X-Men comics...I'm still an X-Fanboy.
