I just saw this on Superherohype.com. I've pretty much liked Marvel's casting, except ol' plain jane, ugly teeth Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane (why wouldn't they cast Nikki Cox!?!?!).
Anyways...read at your risk.
[ Gosh, Eric Foreman as VENOM!?!? That's horrible...
Dunst Confirms Spider-Man 3 Villains Source: Zap2it September 26, 2005
During an interview this weekend promoting Elizabethtown, Kirsten Dunst confirmed rumors to Zap2it that Thomas Haden Church will play Sandman and Topher Grace is Venom in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, opening in theaters on May 4, 2007.
"We have really great people though as the villains in this film, Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace -- Venom and Sandman," said Dunst, who plays Mary Jane Watson in the Spidey films.
"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," she added before reversing her claim. "It's the other way around. You're right," she conceded to a journalist.
Dunst has yet to receive a script for the third film that will begin shooting in January. "But I know the general story. There's a lot that they're trying to fit into this one."

That's kinda weird because of the close resemblance between Tobey Maguire and Topher Grace.

ive heard some rumors from people close to the situation that are a stark contrast.

Why can't Topher be Eddie Brock? It's not as if Venom won't be a CGI-fest anyway.

Why can't Topher be Eddie Brock? It's not as if Venom won't be a CGI-fest anyway. Eddie Brock (pre-Venom) was a HUGE dude, as I recall. A professional wrestler-type build would be closer to the original vision than old Topher will ever be. I can see how some people would be turned off by that. Then again, I didn't like Dunst cast as MJ (since comic book MJ is a world-class supermodel as opposed to a good looking woman), but she's done pretty well in the role.

Yeah, but wasn't Eddie a photographer/reporter? They don't usually go for the linebacker physique in the real world. The fact that they made him huge in the comics was probably just a conceit to justify Venom's size.

However, and this is relevant...Ultimate Eddie Brock (if you don't know what that means, go to Marvel.com and read about the Ultimate books) isn't a very big dude...a little taller than Peter, but not much else.
See the point?

Yeah, but a big guy with a symbiote is scarier then a small guy with a symbiote unless he's totally nuts and that wouldn't leave anything for Carnage

Well, Carnage would require an "R" rating to pull off...so I wouldn't jold my breath...=)

Topher Grace would fit the role of Cleteus Kassidy better than Eddie Brock.
hmmmm A guy like Jason Statham would have been a better choice, despite the English accent.

I know Topher Grace and he told me that they are combining the Venom and Clone Saga storylines. The Venom costume will be originally on Spidey at the beginning of the movie (story of how is unknown) and Thomas Haden Church as Jakyll (not Sandman, Dunst and the rest of the cast were told to swerve the media) creates the clone and he inherits the costume later in the film. Topher told me that he is very excited about the role.

So I take it that Spidey is supposed to face 3 villains in the new movie? I mean, they still haven't resolved Harry Osborne (Osbourne?) becoming the new Green Goblin yet. They need to resolve that storyline first.

They need to resolve that storyline first. I would prefer that they finish that story line before starting a new one. EDIT by Chris: Quotefix

I'm glad to see people who think the same about Kirsten Dunst as MJ. She's a good actress and has really done pretty well in the movies... but I just don't think she's very attractive. They did the same thing with the Superman movies by casting Margot Kidder as Lois. Man... what were they thinking??

What does it matter who they cast in what role, the fact is we will all more than likely plop down our hard earned $ to see it. Cuase if we keep showing that comic book films are big hits, Hollywood may keep making them and perhapse give use some great ones (that Avengers/Captain America movie would be cool. As would perhapse a Slapstick film. And I think a Danger Girls movie...oh wait, they did Charlies Angels instead, my bad.) So Carnage would get the R rating, so what! I want my Maximum Carnage story on the big screen and I want it NOW! If Punisher can get a movie, so should Carnage. Big Time
