My review of Kingdom of Heaven:
One day, Ridley Scott (director of Academy Award-winning Gladiator) saw The Lord of the Rings. He said to himself, "I could do that" and hastily rewrote the Gladiator screenplay, setting it about 1,000 years ahead. Several months later, Kingdom of Heaven was complete.
Seriously, it was a good move, but I had the nagging feeling that I'd sat through it before. Then Ridley's name showed up to kick off the end credits and I realised where. If you liked Gladiator and enjoyed the battle scens in LotR (specifically Helm's Deep from the Two Towers), then this should be an enjoyable movie for you. As a bonus, it took a view of the Crusades and religion (both in general and for the period) that we don't usually get from our History books and/or theological authority of choice (if any).
