The lasagna-loving cartoon cat makes his big screen debut in an adventure that returns to the comic strip's roots. Garfield's owner Jon (Breckin Meyer) takes in the slobbering stray dog Odie forcing Garfield to share his home. A mix of live action and CGI animation
Also stars Jennifer Love Hewlett

The trailer looked terrible for the most part. They really needed for Odie to be CGI as well. I don't see how Garfield can interact as much with him, no kicking him off the side of the table. And at this point the comic strip is unreadable for the most part. I don't think Davis has had an original idea since 1984.
I'll probably end up seeing it out of boredom though.

Even at Davis's most unoriginal, I'd still rather read Garfield than Peanuts. Schultz is dead, could we let the strip rest in peace instead of rerunning strips that are older than I am?

I agree with you Chris
Schults is dead and they need to put the Peanuts to rest instead of running old strips over and over again

I have to agree that the Garfield trailer looks awful. You'd think that they could at least find a dog that resembles Odie. It's scary but I got a "Cat In The Hat" vibe from the trailer. Too bad. I was really hoping that this one would be good. Maybe I'm rushing to judgement. We'll see.

The only thing I don't like so far is that Garfield talks. I rather you just readh his thoughts like in the comic strip and cartoon. Otherwise, too early for me to judge.

I saw Cat in The Hat. From a guy who usually likes bad movies, man, that movie sucked.
Garfield IS giving me the same vibe too...
They seem to be playing "hide the monster" with Garfield, so his look doesn't get out too much before the movie is out. The reason is that he looks HORRIBLE!

For the record, this movie wasn't that bad -- I mean, for a movie based on a daily comic strip. That is: don't go in expecting the next Citizen Kane and you should be entertained. It might help to bring a kid or three, but Bill Murray was clearly destined to be the voice of Garfield (which is ironic, since the guy who did Garfield's voice on the cartoon was the same guy who did Dr. Venkman's voice on the Ghostbusters cartoon).

Overall the movie wasn't too bad. My only problem is I felt Garfield was overplayed. I'm so used to the lazy, brooding character in the comics and cartoon, and then seeing him singing and dancing was a little bit of a turnoff. Also I was hoping for Nermal to play out his, "cutest cat in the world," routine so Garfield could really have some fun with him.
Oh well, still an okay movie. No regrets about seeing it.

I thought it was pretty good. I would probably recommend waiting to rent it though. Unless you're cheap like me and only go to the matinee shows. ;D
Though I did lose it at the part where Garfield went looking for Odie in the city. When he was crawling on the sidewalk, barely able to take another step. Typical Garfield.
EDIT: More crappy punctuation.

Unless your cheap like me and only go to the matinee shows. ;D Hey, I resemble that remark! But seriously, nine bucks for a ticket is insane -- and I'm aware that other places charge much, much more than our local theater. Thanks to a deal with the local CiCi's pizza that grants a dollar off a buffet order if you bring in your ticket stubs, the girlfriend (wife in T-minus 40 days...) and I can enjoy a movie and a dinner of buffet pizza/pasta for under $20 (assuming we only buy tickets at the theater). We've yet to find a deal to top that. ;D

Wow! $9 for a ticket? That IS insane. The tickets at my local theatre are $6. $6.50 on Fri, Sat and Sun. Matinees are $4.75. I guess I should feel lucky. Considering too that this isn't no run of the mill theatre. The sound system is incredible. You can read all about it here.

Paul, Where on God's Green Earth do you live and is there any affordable real estate for sale? ;D 6 bucks for a regular ticket is sooo like 4 years ago! I'm nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of Southwest Virginia. I guess I take for granted some of the good things about this area. Like the low cost of living. I remember when I went to Galacticon a couple of years ago. My wife took a picture of a sign that had the price of cigarettes in one of the stores. They were like $4 a pack or something. They run like $2 here. Which is still $2 more than what I would pay.
