DS owners, a little help, if you please: what does the DS do other than play games? Is there a web browser or anything useful like that? Thanks!

There is software (Opera) you can buy to browse the internet. I love my DS!

I bought my kids each a DS and they absolutely love them. We (myself included) quickly got hooked on mulitplayer Mario Kart and New Super Marios Bros.
The games are a litle simple for me. But for my kids: they love them and they think even the simple wi-fi/message system that comes with the system and any game that they can download stuff for is the greatest thing ever.

Get her an iphone, it kicks a$$, much to Krapik's chagrin.

I take it you aren't trying to surprise her then, by posting that here on a place she visits?

Get her an iphone, it kicks a$$, much to Krapik's chagrin. It also does not play that Brain Age game or the world's most successful cockfighting simulator, Pokemon, and therefore would not suit her purposes.

Pokemon remains one of the greatest game series, period.

I'm always somewhat morbidly amused when I see that certain words duck the filter.

Both the New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Kart are GREAT! Animal Crossing DS, of course, as well!
The new Brain Age just came out and it's $20.
The DS Lite Browser is $30

This month a new not game will be released... you say what?
JAM SESSIONS
It's a Guitar on your DS, you can even hook it up to a amp... I have it preordered, you can have 5 songs, yes you can sing and record you music and song.
I like FIFA Soccer 07 and Animal Crossing Wild World and Club House Games are cool!

Just bought one this week when the sound on my GBA went out. Got New Super Mario with it, which I'm digging. Still mostly playing GBA games for the time being. I'll be interested as to how well that wifi works. Can I use the web browser while sitting at work or at a friends house (like the iPhone), or do I have to be in a store with a hot spot?

Your work/friend's house would need to have a WiFi network. Our DSes and Wii work fine with our wireless router (which is more than I can say about my PC, sadly).
Optionally, there's a USB dongle available, but I obviously haven't used it, so I can't tell you much about it.

I've had one for quite awhile and I love it. The games are new and refreshing and plays all the great GBA games. There is a browser you can buy but I havn't heard any stellar reviews for it. You can also buy things called flash cards or flash carts. These things will let you play mp3's, videos, ebooks, roms, and some include an application that works similar to a PDA. M3 Simply, R4, and G6 Real are some I can think of off the top of my head. Never tried one but want to get one when I get some funds.
