I have a slight dilema in a home-brew roleplaying game I am creating. Basically, I have the core rulebook all done, and on the web so it can be downloaded. Only now, after reading over it, I have realized that certain aspects of the game could seriously be re-worked, re-named, etc. Would it be considered in bad form to almost re-design the entire game system and "re-release"?
I am keeping the basic dice engine the same (i.e. task rols, damage, and so on), but a lot of the Trait names, Skills, Quirks, and so on can be totally overhauled. I need to know if this is a bad idea.
Any help from other hardcore rpg'ers out there would be great!

If you're charging money for the game, I'd suggest waiting a good long while before you do any heavy revamps.
If it's a free download, go for it.

What Cynthia said. If it's free, then it hack away...but if people have paid money for it, you're just gonna drive them off in droves revamping it already.

No, it's a free download of the game. So I don't have to worry about that. Just want to make sure I don't overly confuse everyone when there is suddenly two versions of the same game on the website is all.

Since it's free to download, I would just make sure that you clearly mark the rules as "Version 2" or "2nd Edition" or something like that. I would also make sure that any modules, compendiums or other accessories that you publish clearly list "for use with" whatever name you give to the second set of rules.

Very sound advice
