Fire Pro Wrestling, a hardcore favorite video game of wrestling fans, will make its return to Playstation 2 during sometime in August. The gaming series was apparently retired, but obviously, there was some interest to bring the game back to the states

Is this a US Port of the most recent Japanese Fire Pro?

I've got some news about this game on the WWE page. The thread is called "WWE about to get some serious cometition?". I was able to get info on number of wrestlers in the game, venues, tentative release date and which system gets it. Head over and check it out.

As I've said, I can't wait for this! I do hope they go into the CAW a little more, at least for appearances. I also hope they keep the CPU for CAW's.
For those who haven't played FPW, you can design exactly how your character fights when controlled by the CPU. No staring down opponents like in No Mercy or endless taunts and Irish whips like in Smackdown. You decide exactly what your wrestler does and when. Whether it's mutliple flying moves, striking, using ground attacks, or even using his finisher 30 seconds into the match, you decide it all.
I hope they keep Audience Mode (where the audience rates your matches) but change League Mode so the wrestlers fight each other more than once.
Definitely looking forward to this and for those who have a GBA and can't wait until the PS2 version, I highly reccommend the first FPW. Great game and at only $10, you really have nohing to lose!

FPW is great. I reccommed Fire Pro D for the Dreamcast. Seeing the word CRITICAL is a great feeling!

I just got back into the Fire Pro Wrestling 2 game for the GBA, it is a great game.
I created my old CIA team, they are like the FBI but they're not from Canada. I have Double D Dennis Duschene, Madd Dogg Bill Lemeux and Poppa Pipes Brian Lemeux and Hurraka Ronnah.

I prefer FPW 1 to 2, mostly because 1 has octogon matches and leagues. I created Kowalski, Batista, Sheik, and Matt Hardy so far. Of course, Batista and Kowalski are the most lethal.

I understand that FirePro Wrestling for the PS2 has already been canceled. I haven't heard the complete story yet, but the game has been removed from every PS2 2005-2006 project /release list in existence. There's talk of a PSP version of the game for next summer, but all other versions are in limbo.

I just got the new Nintendo Power in today, and they listed a Wi-Fi game to be released...
This wrestling game is from Spike who have had a hand in the GBA's FPW 1 and 2, all it says in the listing "Professional Wrestling (working title)". If they are making one for the DS, maybe it will be FPW... if the PSP has one, so maybe just maybe the DS has one coming too.

The game was NOT canceled. It is pushed back to Sept. 15, and can be preordered from Japanvideogames.com(West Coast based) or ncsx.com(East Coast based). Go to www.spike.co.jp/fr to check out movies of the new moves they animated(it's "waza.htm" which is one of the last couple of things on the menu bar) Site is all in Japanese. There's probably NO WAY this will get a US release, which is fine with me, since BAM Entertainment really screwed up Firepro 2 for GBA by deleting the super cool federation manager mode "Management of Rings". Chances are, no US guys like Firepro Z, not even recolored. They had their bodies and moves in edit mode(bodies recolored) but they weren't defaults. New Stuff: Regular cage match where you can jump off the cage Managers/seconds Possibly elimination tags LOTS more wrestlers, DVD instead of CD=more stuff Matchmaker Mode that looks to be sort of like Management of Ring New running out of corner move situation Face layering in edit mode that works like the body part layering introduced in FPZ

The JAPANESE version was NEVER canceled.
The AMERICAN version, originally set for release in the U.S. in August, has been officially canceled.
The site shows the Japanese version, complete with Japanese text. While it will obviously be a great game, unmodded and U. S. systems will not play it.

If only the company knew how many people would buy that game if it came out. I know that I bought the Gameboy Advance just for Fire Pro Wrestling and Super Dodgeball.

Yeah that US version was iffy to begin with, like that Gamecube version that was on release lists for a LONG time. I don't even think BAM is in business anymore, and they would have been the ones doing it. The firepro community gave up on that one a long time ago. If you mod your PS2 you can download a patch for the Firepro Z that makes most of it in english anyway. Doesn't translate the story mode or anything, and only some of the moves, but all the menus are in english. No news if this one will have the same thing, because the guy who hacked the game needs the game first to see if it can be done...plus, it's on DVD this time so you'd need a DVD burner to fix your copy of the game(I must stress you need your own legit game to patch it). I hear modding the new slimline PS2s is super easy. Only takes like 5 min to mod the old ones, but that costs like 40 or 50 bucks.

I understand that BAM is the latest videogame developer /distributor to file bankruptcy. This is probably why the American version of the game was canceled several weeks ago.
I do agree that any developer that picked this license up and released it in the U.S. would be pleasantly surprised by the response.
Sadly, it's just one more wrestling gamer's fantasy game denied.

The sad thing is, a lot of the FP community doesn't want a US version because they think it'll bring in some of the people that play WWE games that tend to be really, really annoying on game message boards.
They tend to paint all of them with the same brush, which sucks, because I know a LOT of good people who don't play Firepro but play the US WWE games because of the language barrier.
I don't feel that way. I wish it had a US release, because jeez, importing it is 65 bucks PLUS SHIPPING! At least a US version would be 50 bucks and I could go to a store and pick it up. Plus I wouldn't have to swap discs to play it(I have a flip top, not a mod chip), and it would be IN ENGLISH.
I'll still import anyway, not going to let anything stop me from playing more Firepro.

Just curious but how do you play a Japanese game without modding your system. I have heard of a disc that you put in and then switch out for the game disc but I have never really heard much more than that. Please tell me if you know.

Basically, you still need to mod your system. Mods don't just mean mod chips.
The PS2 has a thing that knows if you're opening the disc tray to swap discs, so you put a thing on there called a flip top, which is a new case for your PS2, essentially. You put in the swap magic disc the normal way, and when prompted, open up the flip top and put the new disc in, press start, and the game works.
purogamer.com has a FAQ on how to install it that actually makes it look harder than it is. It takes like 2 min.
