I'm pretty excited because I'm a huge X-Box fan. The new system is set for a November release. GameStop posted some great pics and info here: www.gameinformer.com/News/Story/200504/N05.0425.1116.02593.htmSince the PS3 has been indefinitely delayed (and as a hater of most things, Sony, I'm not bothered by this at all) and Nintendo can't figure out that children aren't even buying their products, the 360 has a great chance of taking over the industry. The launch list looks pretty impressive, too.

HOLY COW!!!! Did anyone else watch the X-Box 360 debut special on MTV? Am I the only one fired up about the next wave of gaming systems?
I'm a big time gamer, and I really want to chat and compare notes about this. If anyone else out there is into console gaming, let's get it started!!

Not the least bit interested or excited about anything X-Box realted. If I have to wait for PS3 than so be it, my PS2 is still doing fine. Sony hasn' let me down yet, I don't see it happening anytime in the future.
Fire Pro on it's way for PS2 seals the deal.

I own and have owned sony products for years...Everything from the Viao, to countless mini-disc players, both for my home, my cars, and portables for the gym. TV's, sound-systems and of course, my PS2. Aside from Halo, X-Box is for children. The controller sucks too. I'll also be waiting for the PS3.

I've owned the PS1 and PS2, and I've been disappointed with both systems. No power in either one, and very shoddy production issues killed it for me. However, the PS3 LOOKS AWESOME, BABY!!!! Check it out at: www.gamespot.com/news/2005/05/16/screens_6124681.html?page=1Since Samsung has expressed a great deal of interest in buying Sony, I may become a Playstation fan, but I'll take the more powerful "Childrens" machine for now. When Sony figures out how to make a four-player compatible machine with internal memory and some descent FPS'ers, I'll be sold. Also, it's starting to look like FirePro is a Japan ONLY PS2 release. Spike, the company credited with production of the game, has debunked rumors for an August North American release. This could be smoke and mirrors, but it doesn't make sense to shoot down such a high calibur game release at the biggest gaming show in North America.

Either way, I've seen nothing on the current X-Box that impresses me. Short of games I can get on PS2 like X-Men Legends. There will always be those milti-platform games.
I'm not going to argue down your opinion, but I've had no problems with power, don't care about 4 player that much, and mostly play FPS on the PC. The best FPS in years, in my opinion, was Battlefront and it's on everything.
I don't know what your "production issues" comment means.

Hey Tallison, I don't see us arguing so much as debating. I didn't take the "children" comment personally, and I threw it back out there to open the door to discussion. So argue down my opinion!!! That's what I want. Long as it's clear we're not getting personal, i say fire away! That being said:
By "production issues", I mean the low grade scanner eye system that Sony put in the machine to save money and recycle old laser scanners from older model Sony DVD players.
According to NPD, the national tracking group that tracks sales, defec-based returns and other pertinent statistics tied to the gaming industry, nearly a third of the 70 million PS2's sold since its launch were replacement systems to offset units with "burnt out disc readers".
Someone on another thread on this site mentioned that his (and other people's) PS2 only reads "Silver discs". This is another problem created by Sony putting in mediocre disc drive/ disc reader technology. The game disc dirve and the DVD disc drive compete with each other inside the system (in terms of power supply) instead of working together, and this ultimately results in one of the drives burning out.
NPD aside; my own personal experience as an area manager of TWO of the biggest videogame retailers in America is that for every defective X-Box returned to either the store or to Microsoft, there are SEVEN (?!!) defective PS2's. That ratio is repeated throughout the industry and all over the world.
Throw in flash memory, no hard disc space, tower capability that was poorly conceived (if you sit your system upright, the tray is designed in a way that badly scratches discs - BRILLIANT!!) and the issue of frame rates and lighting with various games, and you have a second had system that benefits from 2, 3 and 4 time replacement buyers and a market that knows Sony's name better than the competitors'.
The bottom line is that the machines are junk. This was a sad revelation after witnessing so many PS1's returned for overheating and scanner problems.
I own (owned- I quickly traded my PS2 for an X-Box 360 deposit, and my X-Box is now going towards my PS3 deposit - while the trade in value is still worth it!!) both machines, but my PS2 is my wrestling game machine. The X-Box does everything else.
But, as you may have surmized from my PS3 thread, I have not lost hope. Heck, I'm actually VERY impressed with their third attempt. Not only because of what I've read and seen about the PS3, but because Sony did an outstanding job with the PSP hand-held, and the same people responsible are in charge of the PS3.
I hope you (and anyone else)have not taken offense to anything this old X-Box fan has stated here. I'm trying to keep it factual while letting my personal opinions be known. Again, I encourage you to argue (let's say debate) these points. This particular part of the board doesn't get near the hits it should, especially during the dawn of the next-gen gaming era. And let's face it; we're ALL gamers!!

I can only go from my own experiance but....
No one I know has had thier PS2 burn out. My PS1 actually burned out but that was after 5 years of playing more than 12 hours a week, so I can live with that. The PS1 was notoriously badly ventalated (although third party extras fixed this).
Everyone I know has thier PS2 vertical to save room, and none of us have experianced game scratching.
Hard disc space i a bit of an issue, but they did release a seperate hard drive. I guess I don't consider this an issue because I havn't needed it for anything nor felt the need to buy it.
I don't take personal you likeing what you like, nor do I expect you to take personal my dislike of X-Box. I don't have technical or published reasons, I just don't like the way it looks, plays, the game selection, or anything else about it. I do have company loyalty to Sony and that means something to me if not anyone else.
And I know people who traded in their perfectly operational PS2 to get "the vastly superior X-Box" who had their X-Box break down within 6 months.
