I was just wondering how many cotg players play any of the stratomatic games. I play baseball and football, baseball more frequently. I find it similar to cotg in many ways as you can just sit back and relax and are never sure what the dice are gonna throw at you. I think thats why I like both of them so much, your just as much a fan watching the game/match as much you are a promoter/manager guiding it.

SOM baseball is the greatest sports game of all-time. I learned and played a lot with the cards back in the day, but I'm all computer now. I specialize in all-star seasons, no replaying past years. I've done tons of all-star seasons, by decade, all-time team, each year, AL, NL, you name it. I did the Olympics this summer and am working on an all-star team for each state.

Yeah I was really thinking about converting to computer. I love the cards and dice, but for stat tracking computer would be so much easier. With the computer though don't you have to get numerous scheduling and ball park disks for seasons. Also how hard is it to have different teams from different disks play one another?

Schedules for that season are built into the disk if you want to replay say 2004. Ballpark disks are for older seasons when those things weren't done. Once you have your seasons loaded to the computer it isn't very hard to move players from one league to another. I pretty much only play different types of all-star seasons so I'm always moving players around. A little slow at times but not hard.

Ok, so this is where I sound like a loon, but what exactly is a Stratomatic Game? Is that like thos old football games, where you plug it in and the thing just buzzes and the guys vibrate across the field? Or is it more in-depth, where you play a team owner and such? I'm always into these "sim" style games (like COTG), so this has some interest to me.

I'll try to explain this even though it may be a little better if someone else does as I am terrible at doin that. Stratomatic is a cards and dice game (like cotg) but it takes place on the field, there isn't much front office stuff to do besides maybe setting up a fantasy roster or trading guys. They have seasons from 1900-2004 basically, in baseball you got your hitter card facing your pitcher card. Your giving 3 dice (one red, 2 white) each batter has a 3 big columns labeled 1,2,3. Each pitcher 4,5,6. those colums are then broke down 2-12. When you roll all three dice if the one red rolls 1,2,3 you check hitter if its 4,5,6 you check pitcher. Then the columns 2-12 for the 2 white die. The game is very statistically accurate as they take the percentages of hits and stuff in baseball and match them up with the percentages of rolls of certain numbers with dice. So for ex. you have 1998 Mark Mcgwire facing people for an entire season he is likely to hit close to 70 homeruns even though its not a gurantee, sometimes more sometimes less. Sorry for the long explanation hope it makes it a little easier for you to understand. Very fun game to replay guys like Ruth, Aaron, Mantle, etc. as I never saw them on a field of play. Its especially fun to see dream matchups you've never seen as I take my best friends dad (Rod Booker) and have him face the best pitchers of the current times which is always pretty funny when he sees Randy Johnson struck his dad out. You can also do full season replays and try to rewrite history with a certain team.
P.S.---I ended up pulling the trigger Ty on the v10 computer game with the 2004 rosters and 42 Classic team set, got the card image too so I still have that card and dice flavor on the cpu.(I'll still be cards and dice 4 life) Should be receiving it any day now.

Actually, yes, it does make sense. Do they have something like this for the NFL?

They have both traditional (cards and dice) and computerized versions for baseball, hockey, basketball and football. Thy used to do a college football game but it was discontinued.
I have primarily played the baseball game for years and it is great if you're looking for a strategy game with statistical accuracy.

One of the many things I love about GWF is all the stats I can stat coming up with. If Strat-O-Matic offers me a chance to do some real stats crunching, then I'll have to check HobbyTown to see if they have an NFL one. I'd rather play with the cards and dice, just the "old school" gamer in me I guess. Thanks guys!
