I got an opportunity to play this game a little early, and I wanted to mention that if anyone was impressed with last year's game, this one blows it away in every category (except maybe the roster). I'm telling you now, if you want the best (and, in lieu of the recent litigation between WWE, Jakks and THQ, perhaps the last) wrestling game this generation of systems has to offer, get this game Tuesday.

First of all, I want to say "YOU B*ST*RD!!"...in the nicest jealousy-filled way...
Thanks for the preview. "Nemecys" and I are always e-mailing each other with HCTP (Smackdown: Here Comes The Pain, the current game) updates, and we're pumped as well. Screw the election, Tuesday is important for a much better reason! (that was a sarcastic joke, I'm in the military and I will be voting, and encourage everybody else to do so too!!)
My plan is to play season mode until I can max out all my attributes and superstar points. Then I'll copy the character 19 times and create the 2074 GWF roster! Then I'll get to see what some of these matches would really look like. I'm also pumped for the "Create a PPV" and "Create A Title" options. Is there anything you could tell us about those?

First, thanks for your military service. In times like these, what you do is damned important. I was disappointed with the create-a-belt mode because even though I put together a couple of nice belts, I couldn't quite get a belt to look like the WWE championship belt(s). Also, the belts were only defendable against other players. While this is cool for some, I wouldn't mind actually defending against the AI opponents from time to time too.
I had somewhere in the area of fifteen minutes to mess with the game, and because it takes too long to set up, create-a-ppv didn't get touched. Sorry.
I can tell you that a crap-load of work was put into the arenas, and move sets have once again been slowed down enough to feel less arcade-like. I have always hated the Smackdown create-a-player mode because it requires too much work to accurately create a character (I don't want to waste time getting Big Van Vader's neck width right, but if I don't he looks stupid as all hell), and always had more "cute" options than valuable ones (DBZ hair, Doink outfits and other issues). This year, they kept it a lot more serious, and I was able to put a fairly accurate Hulk Hogan together in a few minutes.
The Elimination Chamber is again my favorite match option, and Benoit, Michaels, Orton and Flair are the best versions of wrestlers I've ever seen on a game.
That's all I have for now. Don't forget to vote Tuesday (and buy this game!!)!

That stinks about create a belt. One of the things I was looking forward to was setting up a fed and using the watch feature (it's still in the game, right?) to run my matches, including title matches. Oh well, if CAW is easier this time around, I'm definitely all for it.
As for Voting tuesday, I really planned on it, but, stupid me, I didn't realize you had to reregister to vote when you moved, until I read it on my reg. card 2 weeks after the deadline. So I guess I have to wait until 2008 to vote again, and then i'll know better. Ugh, and I was so enjoying the political arguments with people too.
Anyways, back to SvR, I think BigBri and I have psyched each other to the point where I nearly planned to camp in front of the mall tonight. Of course, getting the CPC sets increased my patience a little, so the countdown here is 16:24 and counting (mall opens here at 10 A.M!

Thanks for the info RingsYde. I think certain aspects of the game will appeal to some while not others. It all will depend on what you're looking for. Altogether it sounds awesome though. It won't be long now!

Hey guys I work for THQ, not on this project, but I have been able to get builds of the game through out the year and I can say they've really made a lot of progress on this title.
The character models are a huge step up from last year as well as the lighting. I suggest you all throw in Here Comes the Pain tonight and get a feel again for the lighting and models and when you get your SvR tomorrow you'll be amazed at the advancement in the graphics and the phenomenal crowd. When people say the PS2 is tapped out they're obviously not seeing the progression of games today.
The script in season mode is very tight as well. The way they lead up to WM is very cool and really ties up the career mode in a very concise way. I gotta say in all honesty that the dialogue is kind of disappointing, but hey this is their first year doing it and I've talked to the producers in great length about it. They realize it's not the best, but they're just developing a catalogue of dialog and annoucer quips as to get the talents time for Voice Over time is very very hard. Expect next year's version to be 100 times better in the VO catagory.
Still can't make my perfect Wolf in the CaW yet though........

faction,
Yeah, I've been playing HCTP all weekend, getting psyched up. My guess was that the VO wasn't going to be anything phenomenal, being it's first run, but hey, it's better than playing in silence right? If the game is as good as all the hype, then I think the VO can be easily overlooked.
I made Omega, Torin Caelum, and Rune Larrs (of Classics 3000 fame) on HCTP and they all turned out pretty good, although it took hours to get everything just right. Thanks for the inside info.

Well, before Early Classics came out, my plan was to start the GWF in 2074 by using the 3000 guys to add talent to the fed. Out of the 18 guys I had lined up for the fed, I began to create them one by one on HCTP in the order of who I thought would be fun to make. Caelum is my favorite of the early era so I made him first. Omega looks cool, so I made him second. By the time I had Larrs done, EC was announced so I quit making GWF guys on HCTP. When I get SDVR tomorrow, I'll reignite this project, but with the EC guys instead. Yes, Larrs is basically a "MiniVader." I dig the guy though.

Oh yeah release dates are wonky that way. I've always felt when you say release date that should be the date they're in stores, but in the business release date is the date the publisher's "release" the game to the public so that's the day they ship.
Quite annoying.

Yeah, I just figured that one out as I went to 3 different stores in between classes to get the d*mn thing! Oh well, good things come to those who wait!

To any lucky S.O.B who already has the game,
According to Gamespot.com, the AI isn't too bright in this game ,especially when it came to weapons. Is this true? What about the AI in other instances? I really don't want another RAW 2 where the comp tried pinning me 12 times in a row, 30 seconds into the match, or who ran around a ladder so I couldn't stop the guy from grabbing the belt. I know the AI has never been perfect, but i'm hoping for one that's not completely brain dead.
Thanks,
Jay

Picked up the game last night at the local EB. AI is like it was in other games basically. I really don't like the Rumble too much this year because me and my friends use to play hundreds of them because they only took about 15 minutes to play, now with the new "throw out meter" to determine who gets tossed and when it took us 50 minutes real time to do one royal rumble! This and the fact there are no tag belts in season or create a belt mode definately hurt the multiplayer aspect. Too early to tell but feature wise right now I really think HCTP may have the upper hand, as you can't edit the shows rosters before season mode now. Again though it is too early to tell as I only played for about an hour and a half.

I like the idea of the throw-out meter, and hate how in previous games a Rumble is fairly short. I like the idea of the Rumble being more realistic.
As to no tag belts in season, I'm disappointed, but it makes complete sense, as in WWE, all tag belts are treated like they don't matter anyway.
As to no editing the rosters before season, that really sucks, but I could get used to it.
I think I may need to leave early for work and stop at my EB here and see if they have it yet.
Thanks for the info gametime247!

Yeah the Rumble definately seems to be more realistic now as it takes so much more to throw a guy out. It just hampers the ability for me to get my friends to join rumbles with me.
With the tag titles being out of the game that is the first thing I said too. It just makes you shake your head at how the WWE tends to take these titles and build them up and give them so much historical value just to completely phase them out when their writing can't give the title creditiblity. They did the same thing with the IC Belt not too long ago, it would suprise me but not completely shock me if they just got rid of the tag titles all together soon.
There are things about the game I love though, the managers actually play a huge part of the game now as you can use the analog stick to make them distract the ref or get you a weapon (great addition). They also have the actual theme music of the legends which is awesome.

Dude, that was one of my only gripes about HCTP, was that the theme music was missing for the legends! Actually, I just got home from buying the game at my local EB. I got a really cool guide for it too. I can only play for about a 1/2 hr. before going to work though.

Is the Watch feature still in the game? I loved setting up matches and watching them at times so I hope the feature's still in it.
I'm picking it up Saturday most likely since I'm off that day.

Yeah it is still in there as I always do the same thing. My friend and I even set up a little mini fed with our own champs in the last game. I don't think that you can have computer vs computer created belt matches though. I'm pretty sure they can only be defended by an actual human player. Watched 2 comp vs comp matches last night and on the hardest level they still are pretty cool, but the AI is off a little as sometimes you'll just see them stare at each other for a few seconds. Not to mention last night I watched in agony as Chuck Palumbo beat the Hitmen 1,2,3 in the center of the ring, but did get to watch a pretty good Hart-Benoit showdown.

I need you to do me a favor and find the guy(s) responsible for the ridiculous AI in Day of Reckoning and slap him (them) silly.
