At the risk of drawing ire or sounding blasphemous, has anyone here taken a look at the upcoming SHOWDOWN: LEGENDS of WRESTLING? The previous two games were average at best, but I'm really excited about this third installment. I already see several gameplay differences just by watching the videos floating around the net, and the roster is perhaps the best ever to be put in a wrestling game. Because Tom has a card game of the same name, it does seem a little weird to be discussing this here, but we're all wrestling fans, and this game is rapidly moving up on the historian / nostalgia meter.

I hated LOW2, and I really wanted to love it. I like Firepro games and stuff with the Aki engine. The most recent smackdown does things right and I didn't like the ones before that, and the latest Wrestlemania game for Gamecube is set up cool too.
If LOW2 was like that I'd love it. If they improve the way things are and take out the 90 billion glitches that were in LOW2(I had the xbox version) AND got rid of the stupid gambling system to unlock secret guys, it'd be gold.
I love how guys featured heavily in the advertising were secret guys you had to play forever to get REAL smart move there.
They threw a lot of money at a lot of cool wrestlers to get them in this time. Jake, Macho, and Sting have me looking forward to it.
I really, really hope they have the DVD bonus material shoot interviews like in LOW2. Say what you will about the game, those interviews are worth the 50 bucks ALONE(especially on xbox where you get more of them)
The videos look promising. The shirt you get for preordering at gamestop is really, really cool...
Gamespot has some pics of wrestlers that haven't been announced by acclaim yet...like
RAVISHING RICK RUDE NIKITA KOLOFF IVAN KOLOFF

I agree with your tastes in wrestling games. I'm a huge fan of the FIREPRO and VIRTUA PRO wrestling engines (VIRTUA PRO is the base engine for WCW vs the World, Wrestlemania 2000, NO MERCY and other AKI titles). I think this version of LOW has potential. By the way, Nikita Koloff and Ivan Koloff are in (they're posted prominantly on the LOW SHOWDOWN site). The only question in my mind (the BIG one) is how will it play? The videos show signs of a new and improved engine, but the jury will be out until I get a chance to play it. We'll soon see.

On the Showdown site they basically appoligize for they 1st two games and they say they threw away how the game was played and will return with a totally new game play.
adding Nikita Koloff, Dusty Rhodes, Randy Savage, Jake the Snake, Sting and even the Warrior to the already huge list of stars keeps me hoping for a great game.
Now if they'd only refund the $50 each I spent on the 1st two.

Has anyone else picked this up yet? I bought it yesterday and it's better than the first two, but it still has it's faults. Atleast there isn't a bunch of locked wrestlers like the last two, everyone's available from the start. I liked the season mode better last year when you traveled the territories, this year you wrestle 5 matches in the 70's, 5 in the 80's and 5 in the 90's. The in ring action is far better then the last two, plus we get the announcing of Bobby Heenan, Larry Zbysko and Tony Schivonie. All in all for the first time in the Legends series I can say I didn't waste my money.

Unfortuantely, Acclaim no longer produces games for my system of choice (Cube). Wait, did I say "unfortunately"? I meant "thankfully". My bad.

I was really excited when I read about this game, but it is getting absolutely trashed on the message boards. I don't think I will be purchasing it now.
I've been hearing a lot about the Fire Pro series. I have a PS2 with fliptop. My question is this, where do you order your imports from and will they work with a fliptop? And do you have to be able to read Japanese to understand and enjoy these games? Any info would be much appreciated.

I've ordered most of my Firepro games from www.therage.com although I'm not sure if they still even exist. I havn't tried FPZ on PS2 so I don't know what you have to do to get it to work. I do have other Fire Pros including D on Dreamcast and G on PS1. You can find translations of the menus fairly easily. Every Firepro game I play requires me printing out packets of translations but it's worth it. Fire Pro D is just amazing. When i got it my friend and I literally played for like 10 hours in a row one day. As far as Showdown I found it to be a nice little alternative to Smackdown. Plays much better than the previous Legends games. It has glitches, which hurt it, and the move sets could still be better but it has enjoyable game play. I think Heenan's commentarty makes it worth it. I laugh at almost everything he says and have even made a few double takes at some of his comments. For example he asks Jake Roberts to fight his demons and clean up his act.

With Acclaim bankrupt, enjoy playing it cause it will probably be the last.
