NJPW "WRESTLE KINGDOM II IN TOKYO DOME", 1/4/08 (WPW/PPV)
Tokyo Dome

1. THIS IS WAR! ~NONSTOP RISING~: Christian Cage , AJ Styles & Petey Williams beat Milano Collection AT, Minoru & Prince Devitt (10:25) when Styles used the Styles Clash on Milano.
2. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Wataru Inoue (c) beat Christopher Daniels (10:17) with a modified Staggerin' Blow (1st defense).
3. Japanese Muscle Monster vs. The American Monster: Manabu Nakanishi beat Abyss (6:00) with the Dai*Nakanishi German.
5. GET THE TABLE! GET THE HIGHEST! - Hardcore Match: "Team 3D" Brother Ray & Brother Devon beat Togi Makabe & Toru Yano (13:12) when Devon pinned Makabe after the 3D.
8. IWGP Tag Team Title: Giant Bernard & Travis Tomko (c) beat Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner (12:50) when Bernard pinned Rick after the Magic Killer (5th defense).
9. Final Resolution~REAL vs. Justice~IWGP 3rd Belt: Kurt Angle (c) beat Yuji Nagata (18:29) with an ankle lock.

The show is about to start. 3,000 yen (cheap) seats sold out before kickoff. Second floor is again closed off like last year, but most of the opened seats are full. American style entrances and the TNA wrestlers are being introduced in English. Very fast paced opener, the fans enjoyed it a lot. Thumbtacks galore in the third match, Nakanishi winning with two German suplexes. The hardcore tag match was very good, with 3D impressing the Japanese fans. They super powerbombed Yano through a table, then 3D'd Makabe for the win. Jeff Jarrett made an appearance before the tag title match and was met with boos. Scott Steiner managed an avalanche-style Frankensteiner and after the referee went down, JJ intruded with his guitar, but Makabe & Yano got involved and Yano took the guitar shot. Bernard & Tomko went on to finish Rick with their Magic Killer. Bernard shouting "NEW JAPAN ICHIBAN!" on the microphone after the match. Angle retains his IWGP 3rd Belt over Nagata in what was described as a fantastic match worthy of the occasion. Nakamura finally begins his second reign, pinning Tanahashi in an outstanding main event. Back to back world class matches to end the Dome show! Kurt Angle appeared after the main event and all the signs were there for Nakamura vs. Angle - the unification match!

The last sentance is in reference to Shinsuke Nakamura beating Hiroshi Tanahashi for the official IWGP Heavyweight title in the main event. I did not expect Angle to keep his belt against Nagata.

Wow the Angle match was pretty good but the Tanahashi/ Nakamura match was excellent. Good stuff everyone should watch. I think I read here somewhere that this was going to be on Spike but I never catch TNA so I went ahead and watched. So Spoiler alert for those who are gonna watch the TNA showing of there is one.

I also have to say that both Nakamura and Tanahashi have improved since I watched New Japan last. I had a question for anyone who watches alot. Is Tanahashi a heel now or is he just more full of himself than ever? I knew he was a media you know what before but if he's not in character this is funny.

The Angle/Nagata match on Global Impact was pretty good. Watching a puro match is always a cluture shock, mostly because of the way Japanese fans act during a match.

That Global Impact was a pleasant surprise. It was refreshing to see something cool and free of the TNA inane writing style. It kind of reaffirmed Angle's credibility as a wrestling icon.

I'd like to see TNA actually build on their relationship with New Japan and bring some talent over. It Would be great to see guys like Tanahashi and Milano Collection AT inside a TNA ring on Impact.

I just read that Kurt Angle is scheduled to defend his IWGP third belt championship against IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in a unification match on February 17, 2008 at Ryôgoku Kokugikan in Tokyo.

If They actually book Angle over Nakamura (I highly doubt it), and he ends up holding both the main belt from Japan's biggest company and the main belt from the US"s second biggest company, doesn't that, at least in some sense, establish TNA's world title and champion as more legitament then the WWE's?

I know in this day and age it doesn't mean anything, but as a wrestling fan rather then a sport's entertainment fan, it;s sorta cool to me to see a champion holding major belts from two of the biggest company's in the world.

It would raise TNA's prestige but it would not automatically make the belt equal or greater than the WWE and World Heavyweight title in my opinion. The WWE's top belts are still seen as the top prize in wrestling regardless of how the WWE has been the last few years.
