TNA has secured a two hour time slot with Spike TV, but the network has given the promotion a condition - the wrestling company must purchase HD equipment, as Spike TV will be upgrading to HD broadcasting by 2009.
TNA is apparently putting up resistance to the condition as the current contract is set to expire at the end of September. Spike TV has previously provided funding to TNA, such as contributing money to bring Sting to TNA, but the cable network hasn’t been open to providing addition financing for the purchase of HD equipment for the promotion.

TNA should buy the HD equipment, because they need two hours, of course, they need booking too! ;D

Nobody needs to see Samoa Joe in HD. Yeah, those man-teats are horrific enough right now. HD would probably kill their ratings (even more)

OH GOD! They'll spend money on Pac Man Jones, but won't spend the money to attain their goal of getting another hour?!?!
Fire VKM, The Steiners, Lance Hoyt, and a few others and make this happen, geez.

Maybe they spent the last of it on Pacman and they're kicking themselves in the butt right now.

Maybe they spent the last of it on Pacman and they're kicking themselves in the butt right now. The more things change. The more they stay the same. Personally, I preferred Donkey Kong.

Under the current deal Spike TV takes in a nice chunk of ad revenue in exchange for the timeslot...so it's understandable that they're willing to help pay for 'name stars' under the guise that it attracts (or at the very least sustains) ratings that turn the network a profit. If they are willing to extend the show a second hour then that's proof from Spike TV's standpoint that the relationship is financially beneficial. It's also very good news for pro wres fans because this stands as a potential selling point for pro wres start ups pitching to Network Execs about the efficacy of gaining a TV Deal. It's concrete proof that money 'can be made' on Prime Time Week Night Cable with a non-WWE product under this model. That 'operating' TNA is still a money burner even after nearly a two year run on Spike TV (with no 'upside' in sight)...is a separate issue that Panda doesn't seem willing to come to grips with. Something like High Def as a uniform production standard for programming is a pure cost that doesn't generate any positive income. Spike TV has every right to impose this standard as a 'branding tool' and there's no justification for them to 'front' TNA the money for a self imposed 'cost' or let them and not others adhere to a lower production standard. While the HD upgrade creates more needless red ink...at the end of the day Panda can (and will) pay up if Dixie Carter wants to continue this charade of being in the pro wres business.

If HD equipment was a former WWE superstar this would be a done deal. Once we get the next generation of HD technology TNA will just buy off the obsolete models from WWE.

You'd be able to see the wrinkliness of half their wrestlers in HD. However, anything that opens up the door for Kevin Nash promos and matches I am all for.

This guy is one big, flaming pile of lame, not-funny crap. Geez, the bad thing about his post was not opening the door for promos, it was opening the door for matches. He is good enough on the mic to provide an occasional good promo or skit but there is no chance of a good match, nada.
