Didn't WWE do this back in 2001 with the Power Trip and the Brothers of Destruction? WWE has done it a bunch of times, they just have more belts, so its not as memorable for someone to have two or three.. just recently Cena and HBK were tag champs, while Cena had the big title... As previously mentioned, Benoit had the tag belts(By himself) and the Heavyweight belt at one point... I'm pretty sure the New Age Outlaws had the tag titles, while both having singles titles (Gunn the IC, Road Dogg the Hard Core) just before they broke up... In that same era, I think the Corporation had Ken Shamrock and Big Bossman both have singles titles while they were tag champs (I know Shamrock was Tag champ and IC champ at the same time) I know HHH has had more than one at a time too, but I don't really remember when.

Batista held the World heavyweight championship along with the smackdown tag belt w/ Rey Mysterio. Kevin Nash also held both IC Belt and the tag belts with HBK for one day after losing the IC belt to Razor Ramon at Summerslam. Some people count both HBK (IC champ) and Nash (WWE Champ) defeating Owen Hart and Yokozuna (British Bulldog).
HHH only held the IC Belt and Tag belt with Steve Austin (Power trip).

Backlash 2001, I think? Of course, WWE also put the Dudley Boys in a PPV main event a few years back, against Taker. They didn't stand a chance there, either.

That's the other issue.....no one's going to believe that Ray and Devon would have a chance of winning either title.

I actually think this could be really cool. Joe wins the X belt, Joe and Angle go on to win the tag belts, and predictably, they get fed up with one another and have Joe vs. Angle XXVIII or whatever it is now, with the winner claiming all of the gold in TNA for himself. The only problem, of course, is that they'd book Angle to win. I watched that episode when Jim Cornette announced the Match of Champions, and he said that if the TNA Heavyweight champion or the X Division champion pinned or made one of the Tag Team champions submit, then the man who scored the pin on the former tag champion would have the right to choose his own partner to defend the strap. So if Samoa Joe were to pin, say, Brother Ray, then he would get to choose whomever he wishes to defend the titles. Same goes for Angle if he were to score the pinfall or submission victory. That didn't necessarily mean that Joe and Kurt would automatically be the tag team champions.
